awwwwww, you're so sweet erik! thanks so much for the comment on my page and actually, when i read it i just thought that he 1. should have put that in my journal because it wasn't necessary on my homepage 2. wasn't really supporting his beliefs with facts but with abstract ideas and 3. that comment about me being ugly was completely inappropriate. i already wrote him a note because i didn't want to embarass him on my homepage but whatever. i don't really care what people think of me if i don't know them and it doesn't matter because i don't consider myself ugly. it was just stupid for him to put that there. thank you so much for the support hun!! aww... i want to go to Bucknell now to give you a hug. ^^ you're too kind.

Indeed I have. It is one of my absolute favorites. Isn't Gatsby a cool name? Sometimes I wish I had a really cool name. I'm going to have fun naming my kids if I ever have any.

Haha. I love that book as well. Although, I don't particularly like Daisy, I like what she stood for for Gatsby - the "green light" and his "orgastic future." Heh... Look at that, someone who hated lit is now quoting it! That's funny.
"And so we beat on, boats against the current, borne ceaselessly into the past..."
Don't you love that last line? Ahh.... So calming and it has a terrific ending! I used that line in my graduation speech in 8th grade. Very cool. ttyl.

Yeah, I don't really like her either, excpet that I imagine she is really pretty. I must say I'm shocked to find a girl who likes the Great Gatsby so much. I thought there was just so much in there that only related to guys. And you understand the green light!!!!! That's amazing! "tis the most important symbol of the book. And you are right about that quote. The whole book was beautifully written like that. It was like.....WOW! I don't even know how to describe the feeling I get reading it. He just makes everything SO REAL. Do you read a lot? I bet you do and I bet you have a great understanding a appreciate of literature.

SiempreYo In reply to ContraFool [2004-05-05 23:43:49 +0000 UTC]
Heh - yea, I do read a lot. I love books and it's so hard to read things that I like during school. Have you ever seen the movie of The Great Gastby? It's so crappy! Daisy is not even that pretty and the acting is horrific! There's a lot in there related to guys and their emotions, yea, but I completely understand. I actually tried to read this book like 4 years ago and I hated the beginning so I just stopped reading it and this year I had to read it for my lit class and I fell in love with it. I love it! And why is it amazing that I understand the green light symbolism? That's pretty obvious, no? *heh* The book is stunning. Yep, the way Fitzgerald describes things are perfect. The language is beautiful. You get to that point where words cannot describe how incredible the words are and they just touch you. Like the ending. It touched me!!! xo

I think there have been many movies made and I have seen two. One of them I liked ok, but of course it just didn't quite match up to the affect given off by reading the book, but being that that is impossible, I won't fault them for it. The other movie I saw was simply horrible. The actors had so much fake emotion. I couldn't stand it and Daisy was not pretty at all. And she completely DESTROYED one of her most important lines in the book. She just didn't convey the importance of it at all. I'm really picky about acting because I've been involved in theatre since I was six (thus my avatar) and watching this movie nearly killed me. I wanted to do violence to the so called actors. And trust me, a lot of people don't understand the green light unless it is pointed out to them, so you're a step ahead if you think it was obvious (as did I).

i think we may have watched the same movie then. because daisy was horrific and then when they came to the scene where gatsby brings daisy over his house for the first time and she sees all the shirts, she completely exaggerated it and just looked stupid. i don't know. you write back so fast erik! geez. i write you something and then the same day there in my commments box are your responses. it takes me a while to respond mostly because i'm lazy and don't feel like writing something this long (sorry) but also because i feel like a just wrote an essay to you and then i have to write another one. *sigh* o well. i appreciated them though! i really do.... onto your other ones.

you should read my forum post on abortion. here i copied and pasted it here for you!!: i do not agree with abortion at all - for rape cases or for younger children either. i have my own reasons for that and i'd rather not argue because i get pretty nasty when i do. but i am glad that someone has the guts to go out there and respond to this. i've never written anything in forums before but this one is something that i feel compeled to respond to. kudos to you for standing up for what you believe in. i go to a school that's 70-some % rich snotty kids who hate bush and are 100% liberals. so, i'm constantly standing up for my morals and beliefs because i refuse to give in. i have a very strong personality. abortion is wrong. that's the bottom line. it was your choice to have sex so it's your consequence. and as for killing a child - who knows who that child could have been? what if mozart's mother chose, "oh, i don't want this child." or if einstein's mother said that? imagine what this world would have been like. i disagree with it. it is not a fetus or just a bunch of cells - it is a baby. i don't care what anyone says. the word "fetus" does not even exist in my vocab. my friends and i always get into arguements because of these types of political topics, but i have my beliefs and i will stick to them til death. i am a strong (catholic) republican and this is just morally wrong. how can you live your life knowing that you killed someone? horrible.

nice post amiga. Estoy de acuerdo. You have some really good arguments and if you would like I can give you a bunch more if you want try to take this up with your friends again. I can counter any arguement on the pro-murder side that I have ever heard and often leave them not able to reply. But sadly, I haven't changed anyone's mind yet .
Btw, before you decide you like me too much you should probably know that I'm not the biggest Bush supporter in the world. I disagree with what he did in Iraq mainly because the Pope came out against the war in Iraq as being immoral and I will back the Pope against the president any day. Also, he doesn't exactly have a mastery of the English language. But I do like him on many things and will probably end up voting for him for lack of anyone better.Sorry if I may have disappointed you.

heh - you didn't disappoint me at all! i don't know many people who like bush besides me and a few people in my school. question though: do you follow every single thing that the pope says? i mean, what if he said that abortions were ok or something else really random? i understand that he is our quote, unquote leader but do you take everything from him? i'm not a big pope follower mainly because he just seems like a figure head to me. i just think that he's just there and doesn't really do much. plus, he (along with many other things in the Catholic relgion) were just man-made rules and regulations. where does it say anything about a pope in the Bible? i mean, i believe in what he stands for, but i don't necessarily agree with everything that he says. and yes, you can't take the Bible literally, but i'm not sure on that one. but there is no need to think that you disppointed me! haha. never! later days.... -me-

ContraFool In reply to SiempreYo [2004-05-04 00:34:20 +0000 UTC]
Actually, the Pope's authority is recorded in scripture and comes directly from Christ Himself. The Pope is a lot more than a figure head. You may be interested to know that our current Pope was largly responsible for ending communism in Europe and starting the solidarity movement in Poland. And I do agree with everything he says about morality and religion because he is infalable. I can explain why if you wish. He would never say that abortion is right. He is guided by the Holy Spirit in all matters concerning the faith. He is Christ's personal vicar on earth. And you are right, many of the rules of the Church are man made, but by men who were given the authority to make such rules by Christ Himself.
And I don't have to agree on everything he says, just with respect to religion. Like if his favorite color is blue I can disagree and say that green is better (which it is of course).
I'm a little confused as to why you didn't know all of that. Didn't you ever have formal religious training? If you ever have any other questions about our religion feel free to ask me. I will either know the answer off the top of my head or else be able to find it fairly quickly.
Oh, and I'm sorry if I may have made any of that sound a little bit harsh, but I feel strongly about the Catholic Church. It is stands for all of my principles and I have always worked very hard to fully understand it and I feel a little sad when a fellow Catholic says something incorrect about it. So please don't be mad at me. And I still think you are cool even if we may disagree. If I can be friends with a Mormon and Atheist, I can be friends with a Catholic who doesn't like the Pope.

Well, I did know most of that being that I went to a Catholic school for 9 years; kindergarten to eighth grade. And it's not that I don't like the pope. I just feel that there are some things that I am unsure about. Yes, the pope is supposed to be guided by God and he's supposed to make all of the right choices. But for some reason I can't get it out of my head that he is only human. Maybe I just need to get more involved with the my religion. I'm Catholic, yes, just not as strong as you. And it wasn't harsh, don't worry. I'll be sure to ask if there's anything I'm confused about. Thanks!
Hugs n kisses n Bestest wishes!!!

I went to Catholic school when i was little but then i homeschooled and went to another Catholic school for highschool. I found that they were seriously lacking in religious education and even a few of the things they taught about the Churh were incorrect. The reason I know so much about our Faith it that there is an extremely conservative church where I grew up and I was an altar boy there for almost 8 years. I learned a whole lot about the Church from the old priests there who always give very intellectual sermons. They go a lot beyond the basic "God is good, God is great and love your neighbore" type of sermons. They really went heavy into complicated teachings of the Church. And that lead me to do a lot of reading and study on my own. One thing I discovered is that I still have a TON to learn so I don't fault people for not knowing as much as I do because I still have so far to go. Anyway, just let me know if you have questions

My Catholic school didn't teach much either and my sister learned even less. She only went there up til 6th grade and she doesn't even know who Cain and Abel are. It's sad. I always have to teach her things and sometimes I feel like I'm just telling her the bare bones of the Catholic religion. I don't know. And Church is really boring lately. I don't know about you, but my Church is really boring and I find myself thinking about other things during the homily or readings. It's sad. Also, no one in my Church sings at mass so it's just quiet while the cantor sings his/her heart away. I think they need to liven it up a bit. I mean, Church is supposed to be a celebration of Christ and a time to remember what he did for us. Why shouldn't we be rejoicing?
That reminds me: my best friend started a Bible club in my school and she was given a lot of crap from other people about it. They even started a Torah club to go against hers. I went to one of the meetings once to see what it was like and I just thought it was really boring. Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the Church needs some reform.
I think that going to the school I'm going to has made me become more open and religously affilitated. i just feel like there are so many Jews in my school trying to force their opinions on me so I need to become strong about my beliefs and voice them as well. I'm always had a strong personality and stuck up for what I believe, but now more than ever.
Well, off too your other notes because I'm sick of seeing them in my comments...

You're stuff is really good too! And what's this of you being "unique" ?? I can't believe that you've never had a girlfriend! Are you just picky or do you look for a specific person? No girl you've met measures up to your standards, huh Erik? Haha. And that whole thing about God seeing it fit to send you a wife was beautiful. I've always thought that there was someone out there for everyone and I always pray that God keeps that person for me save. Are you Christian? You've got to be. I'm a Cuban Catholic and proud of it! Heh, well, my friends (both named Sarah) say that I'm too picky, but I don't think I am. But then again, in some ways they know me better than I do. I am indeed Christian, Irish Catholic in fact, and I can't imagine being anything else. I didn't mean to be deep. That is just the way I articulate my thoughts. And I don't really think my poetry is anything to get excited over, it's just some random stuff that comes out of my strange mind sometimes. Btw, do you have an AIM or AOL screen name?
π: 0 β©: 1
SiempreYo In reply to ContraFool [2004-05-02 19:51:00 +0000 UTC]
Both Sarah?! Wow... And if they tell you that you are picky, maybe you should try to lower your standards a little. Remember that no one's perfect!
Yep, I'm Roman Catholic - what's the difference between them? W/e. But I didn't mind the "deepness" of it. heh. And what are you talking about?! Good poetry makes you really think about the world around you or a certain situation that you are in. When something hits you, you should try and express yourself ariticulatey and specificly. I think that's what poetry does and then it leaves out all the extra, unnecesary words. Poetry is beautiful!
Alright, unfortunately no, I don't have an AIM or AOL sn. My parents won't let me because they are afraid that I will talk to random people that I don't even know. (Little do they know....hah.) Everyone here asks me that though and I really wish that I could get it somehow. But my dad's a computer expert (he owns his own company: [link] .) and even if I tried to get it, I'd get busted. So, I may as well stick to just email. Oh well.
Wow - this is long enough. I should have sent this in a note.... Whatever! I don't mind if others read this.
Always,
-me-

Oh, I'm definitly Roman Catholic. I only add the Irish part because my mom is Irish and it is because of her that I'm Catholic. There are also a few traditions that the Irish add to being Catholic and I follow those sometimes. Like there is an Irish tradition that every time you enter a Catholic church you have never been to before, God will grant you three wishes.
And I have met girls (7 in fact) that I wish had been my girlfriend, but none of them liked me. Like I said, most girls don't like me at all. And yes, they are both named Sarah. I wrote my poem "The Power of a Hug" about them.
And you are right, good poetry is very valuable. I wish I could write some.
Aww, that is a shame about not being able to get a screen name. But your parents are kind of right actually. I can understand why they would want to be careful with you.
