I don't have any advice for you like anyone else but this made me glad I wasn't alone in my problems: "I feel like I am more enthusiastic about making characters and settings than I am good at (or driven, etc, to) actually create a story. I keep CHANGING what the actual “story” is about as I worry about it being offensive, stupid, or longer than I actually have the ability to tell." Because omg, same. Exactly the same.

Ah ha, man, you know, I am glad that the words reached you and that you maybe felt a bit of relief in relation! I kind of reached my own advice, which is: if I am enthusiastic and still want to make stories that just use the characters and don't necessarily HAVE a "huge" over-arcing plot that makes it feel like Lord of the Rings or some other epic...that's okay. I think the interpersonal struggles of my characters and the ability to world-build CAN be my story, it just means the format will reflect that - shorter snappier comics that are more like an anthology of scenes.

As long as we're changing it to something we still feel BETTER about, and we still ENJOY telling stories we write regardless of their length, then that's important, too. Of COURSE it would be fun to have stories with huge expansive plots, or go on forever like Marvel's long history or the fact that Harry Potter takes us through the entirety of the titular wizard's adolescence - but there are timeless stories like Scooby Doo or Archie, too. I especially feel, of internet comic and character culture, that people will just enjoy a well-written and designed character even if they begin ever-so-slightly in a vacuum.

This got really long-winded and it's late but D: Maybe it's more good words, aha!
