MLPAnimationIsMagic In reply to ??? [2014-04-12 00:55:30 +0000 UTC]
Nnnope -- If I'm correct, it should be about just under another 2 months before I have enough to be able to buy the parts for it. Which feels way to far away, but I suppose there's nothing I can do to speed that process up.
I'm doing fine, but I can't help but feel like I'm just losing touch with the project because of this huge break I've been having by just waiting on this PC, so I'm kind of really eager to get back into it as soon as possible. I just hope no-one is getting annoyed at the lack of progress.

IMO, while you're waiting for your new computer, you can do the less intensive stuff like finalizing your VAs and working on scripts/boards.
At least that way, you don't have to worry about finding people and doing auditions when you gotta worry about the animations.

I have been touching up scripts, but I other than drawing physical storyboards I do not have the stuff to draw them on a PC (like a Bamboo drawing tablet) -- and I lack a lot of artistic talent, so I'm waiting to create the animatics myself once I finish the intro sequence (since I know how I want it to look anyway)
And I have been finalizing them, I've chosen my next 3, I have a pretty good idea of who I want for the ones after that for the CMC and Discord, but I can't make 100% confirmation on any of that until I can animate my reveal videos.
I've begun ordering my PC parts, and I might be getting it a lot sooner than anticipated. So hopefully it won't be too much longer
But I appreciate your concern and advice

Quick question, if I may.
Did you pick a Mr. Cake yet?
π: 0 β©: 1
MLPAnimationIsMagic In reply to KunehoKun [2014-04-25 23:57:12 +0000 UTC]
Nnnope. I'm holding off for three reasons:
1) I pick them in an order. It went Pinkie and Flutters, then Luna, Celestia & AJ, next is Twi, RD and Rarity, following that will either be Spike and Discord or the 3 CMC, and then lastly will be Mr and Mrs Cake -- but that's because of the following two reasons.
2) Mr. and Mrs. Cake appear in episode two and aren't entirely as important to confirm as the others, since Episode 2 will be out much later than Episode 1 -- the CMC, if I remember from the last time I read the script, are in Episode 2 as well, but they have more lines. The Cakes have 3 lines each respectively (At this current moment, I haven't edited episode 2's script yet).
3) There are no Mr. or Mrs. Cake Puppet rigs online, so I would need to wait until either they get made by someone, or I get someone to join the team to make Puppets who can make one of each of them. I have a Puppet rigger on board, but he's been doing OC's at the moment. -- Again, because I don't need them until I'm working on Episode 2.
Feel free to ask any questions, by the way. There's no need to ask if you can ask xD

Yes I know what you mean. You could start a donation pool on da and I think there's a way to convert it in to cash. For the record I'm not annoyed at all with the progress.

MLPAnimationIsMagic In reply to mattbud20 [2014-04-12 14:39:05 +0000 UTC]
Perhaps you might not be, I'm worried my VA's might be, or other people on the channel awaiting some sort of progress.
I've got a donation page that I set up a long time ago through my WeeAddy31 YouTube Channel (I need to change the goal -- it's way too high, and I certainly don't need that much anymore) -- however, I don't wanna go promoting that through the MLP Channel because I wouldn't feel right doing so. That's why I'm doing the animation commissions, so people can get something back from it, but I've had no-one interested in having a commission at all, so that's not helped.
I don't really want to ask people to donate, it's kind of a last resort -- especially because if I just wait I can get it myself. I just don't want to come off in any sort of bad light, looking as if I'm taking advantage of the kind natures of Bronies to get money for a PC.

Eeyup, of course.

mattbud20 In reply to MLPAnimationIsMagic [2014-04-12 16:26:18 +0000 UTC]
Well I was interested in the commission in till I saw the price, cause I cant be paying 15 pounds for a 15 seconds animation maybe for 1 minute. So I suggest making it a bit... Okay a lot cheaper.
π: 0 β©: 1
MLPAnimationIsMagic In reply to mattbud20 [2014-04-12 16:39:58 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I figured that would be one major issue. I would like to make it cheaper, but I had such a hard time doing that as it is.
Currently, 2 hours of work, I can get about 10 frames of animation done, give or take a couple of frames.
Long story short, doing 1 minute animations would take so long to produce that it would be ripping myself off in terms of how long I am single handedly working, and how much I'd be asking for.
I'd originally set it to Β£1 per frame, to match a price set by another DeviantArt user (and he also charged it by frame, and for 15 seconds maximum at 12fps) -- after some maths, I cut it down to 25p to make it more afforable, but still worth the time and effort.
HOWEVER, on Facebook where I'd been discussing this with some other Bronies, one of them mentioned they can get professional companies to do animation for Β£500, for 10 minutes of animation. After cutting that down (a lot) to see how much that would equate to, to see how much I could charge to be fair, it was 4p per frame.
And for the amount of hours I would put into 15 seconds of animation (for 24fps, 30 for 12fps), it just wouldn't be worth it. And the reason I say that is because when discussing prices, there was a guy who said charge by the minimum wage for every hour you work, just like in real life whenever you have a job. But doing that would mean I'd be charging about Β£6 for every hour of work, and I said 2 hours got less than 1 second of animation complete -- so it would be an even larger price.
I compromised and went for 25p because it's the price that, to me, would be worthwile doing, while also still not being too expensive. The reason I have to charge higher than 4p is because the difference between me and professional companies is that I am just 1 man -- I'm not being paid by a company, or have anyone else to help me create the product, and as such I am single handedly putting so much more time and effort into it because I need it to be a good standard of animation -- otherwise what's the point?
So, although I do appreciate the help, unfortunately there's very little I can do. To be honest, I didn't expect much people to be interested in having any done, but there's no harm in trying. I could still have the price changed at some point, but even if it does I can't see it being wildly taken up, and I also can't see me feeling like I'm getting back what I'm putting in.
It's a tough one to figure out. It's no big deal, I'll just continue to save what I get every two weeks -- I've been considering selling some Yu-Gi-Oh cards too, since they can go for a bit (depending on the card, how rare it is and what condition it's in) and because I've kind of stopped playing it, but I'm also sort of a collector, so I really would hate to sell them too ^_^"

Whoa so much writing. Wait it takes you 2 hours to make a 1 second Animation? Have youΒ ever read the Warriors book?Β
π: 0 β©: 1
MLPAnimationIsMagic In reply to mattbud20 [2014-04-12 18:35:08 +0000 UTC]
Never even heard of it.
And it takes me 2 hours mainly because of my PC being so slow, but also because if I need to create an entirely new pose for multiple puppets on 1 frame, that can take up a lot of time -- lip-syncing voices takes a lot of time (when I used 2 hours to less than 1 second of animation as a reference, I was thinking back to my Rainbow Dash reveal, which took 2 hours to do 7 frames because I was lip-syncing)
There's so much that needs animated in one single MLP puppet in order to make it look any good, and to top it off, there's the background too (should it need to move along with the character at all, or props too).
I just focus too much sometimes on getting every frame looking perfect, so it's also partly my fault. If I see a line slightly out of place, that when animated would go completely un-noticed, my OCD kicks in and I have to correct it.

I got a B in English, actually. I can write a lot, but there's a lot of elements I fail at.
I don't really read books at all ^_^"
And not exactly. The only RPG games I play, or will/would play, are PokΓ©mon and South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Hi Matt. Doin' alright, project's not exactly progressing as of late. Just a lack of motivation. I've begun animating the reveal, yes, but the third time (yes, I've only went to work on it 3 times, all for 2hr sessions) I ended up not animating and spending the time creating the video's Custom Thumbnail -- which took 2 hours because of my trying to pose Twilight correctly, and 'cos it's my first time posing a front-facing puppet. So far I've only ever needed to pose the 3/4 and profile puppets and I'm used to it. 2 Hours -- but thankfully it looks good, I'll probably upload it to the Facebook page whenever I'm next on the PC working on it.

I think I'm gonna get workin' on it on Sunday. I woulda worked on it today but I decided to begin trying to improve myself today, which that was included in but I was never motivated to do so. I got up earlier than I usually do, walked my dog for an hour, got home, and intended to play games for a while then animate, and head out at around 8pm for pool night. Aim to walk my dog every morning now, and get more into my work (videos/animating) but it'll have to wait until Sunday because of my friends birthday party tomorrow.
Going out early tomorrow morning to enter the MLP Card Game Tournament and Day-One release over here, home around the afternoon time, and then dinner with my friends, then heading out for the rest of the night with them. Gonna have no time at all to work on it. Sunday I am completely free.

Not exactly ^_^" Kinda awkward in parties, only really chip in to make dirty jokes when I can. When I do chat I can join in well and be entertaining, which is the goal, but I'm not too good at it a lot of the time. Also, in terms of actual parties, I'm not a big fan of them, so that's usually the situation I'm in so my comedy goes kinda stale. ^_^"
