I can't believe we're in another war: what're we up to, like five now? Five ongoing campaigns overseas? Aren't we in a recession? What part of 'we can't afford this!' can't Obama understand!? We're already stretched thin as it is; and our reputations circling the drain. Wouldn't it make more sense to let the people on that side of the pond handle their neighbors? What's Germany's stance on this? What's England's? Or France's? What's Russia doing in all this? It seems like every time the U.S. start shit in the middle east Russia takes the opposite side of the argument: so I assume they'll do it again.

This is what we're going to war with back at home: Massive recession. High unemployment. Record single parenthood and illegitimacy (it's 10% as I understand it). And a massive hundreds of billions of dollars health care bill that no one understands: that's going to be almost impossible to remove. Oh, and because we've lowered the bar for women to enter military service we basically have a chain of command full of weak links, endangering their platoons; because they can't admit that they're not physically fit for the battle field. Oh, and we're So this time it's Iraq but with watered down marines. So to recap: we're weaker than before, poorer than before and our chances of garnering allies are slim to none; because we kind of been mooning all our supporters for the past decade. I hate this man. do us guys hate him.too?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Robbe25 In reply to The-Psychonaut [2013-12-30 08:09:43 +0000 UTC]

Well, I am disappointed with Obama, but I do not hate him. And I don't think it's fair to lay sole blame on him. Don't get me wrong, he's made mistakes. And he's to blame for lots of stuff (e.g. it's a shame that he still hasn't done as promised and closed down Gitmo). But some things, like that failed healthcare reform, got watered down by his party and by the republicans. I mean, the man isn't a dictator who can decide things on his own. To be clear, I'm probably the wrong man to talk to about healthcare. Us Germans (and it probably goes for all Europeans) just have (had I must say) a different outlook on that. Compared to what we had (it's got whittled down over the years), your current healthcare system is rubbish (no offense intended!) and the new one doesn't go far enough. But again, that's a deeply European viewpoint, one that probably wouldn't be viable in the US.

As for the recession, that's as bad here as everywhere. Oh, the media doesn't transport that. According to them, we have a job wonder on our hands and Germany is doing well... That is true.. to a very minor degree. The exporting companies are doing well. That is until our foreign customers can't afford our products anymore. And when that happens, shit'll really hit the fan here since we have no alternative to exports. And then we'll be as bad off (or possibly worse) than the rest of Europe. Those won't be nice times.

The-Psychonaut In reply to Robbe25 [2013-12-05 19:11:39 +0000 UTC]

indubitably, sir. Oh, I just found out we're at war with Libya incidentally; like last week or so. I don't know, I don't bother with the water cooler gossip on the news that much: I'm a social activist concerned with egalitarian issues who spends the bulk of his time either swatting down feminist claptrap with cogent evidence; or exposing the religious to the batshit lunacy they espouse. I figure if we can soundly refute one or both of these parasitic paradigms the world might be able to at least undue the damage of either or.

My logic: If we help regale the middle eastern peoples with literacy, real literacy that doesn't marry itself to an unverifiable hypothesis like GOd, then maybe the people will stop following the Taliban, will stop joining religious terrorist cells. No more God, no more holy wars: or at least less soldiers fighting them. And if we reveal the absurdity of gynocentrism, maybe western and middle eastern men will stop falling for it. Will stop throwing themselves on their swords for women, will stop eroticizing and objectifying their politics using women as mascots. At women's insistence, like "beat me, drag me, my brother's blood will cover me.", the slogan adopted by female protesters in Egypt: which is a psychotically pompous slogan, given the fact that they're basically electing other people's lives for their politics.

Robbe25 In reply to The-Psychonaut [2013-12-30 07:57:58 +0000 UTC]

Again, sorry for taking so long to reply. Work has really cut down my computer/internet time.

I didn't know the US was actively involved in Libya. Can't be long then until people in our new conservative government will be calling for us to get involved as well... Damn. And I didn't even vote for them.

My viewpoint on feminism is rather... well... ambiguous. Or rather the same as on religion.

I think it served a purpose once. Religion provided answers when we didn't know better and needed them and feminism helped women to gain more equality. Both movements (for lack of a better term) had their time, but now they aren't really needed anymore. Problems start when either gets taken too seriously.

I've started reading a very interesting blog (unfortunately only available in German) in which the author sometimes talks about feminism, e.g. how it is ok to organize women-only marathons and if you'd do the same for men how there would be a shitstorm. Quite interesting to see the comments. I mean, the guy didn't say anything bad, his whole blog post was very respectful to women, men, organizers of the women-only run and so on. Still he was labelled misogynist and worse. That is appalling imho, and doesn't help anyone, neither women nor men. Being the leftist I am, I firmly believe that nowadays feminism is another welcome tool to divide people (in men vs. women - apart from other tools of division, like between lower classes and lower middle class and so on). People should do everything in their power so that everyone has the same chances regardless of sex, colour, social status or creed.

The-Psychonaut In reply to Robbe25 [2013-12-30 12:43:46 +0000 UTC]

If you want equality feminism isn't the way: because feminists always shove a waiting hand into the face of every male tax payer, guilting and vilifying them into systemic monetary compliance.

Equality has always been a venomous term to me, fraught with revenge. One should seek equality by the law and personally emphasize progressive academia and debate, but what I notice with people is a violent hate for a difference of opinion. While I hate racism, sexism and religion in general--whatever I think of its zealots and their discipline and sacrifice---I believe in never censoring anyone unless they threaten you or someone else; or spew slander at you or someone else. There's opinion and then there's barefaced lying. Most social crusaders try to paint the world as more bleak than it is because it "needs" to be to inspire activity out of an indifferent voting caste: it's all about conjuring up a threat narrative so the put-upon demographic can justify aggression. I'm 26 and I see this nonsense constantly propagated in college. Censorship is rampant in the halls of higher education; because there's too much profit and standing to be lost from pissing off two big, big demographics: 1)religious extremists; and 2)feminists. Both are ravenous when ventilated.

I wrote a piece not too long ago entitled 'Is Islam a Religion of Peace?'. To which I said, 'no': because there is no such thing as a peaceful religion. All religions demand faith and obedience to a god or gods who will eternally torment nonbelievers. At least the Abrahamic faiths do. Islam being the youngest of them, and the only one to proclaim itself as a last dispensation by God before the destruction of the world. I explained the necessity for this superstition of eternal torment to the innocently ignorant with a joke: 'You're saying God punishes people who don't believe him?' 'Well, yeah, but only if you hear his Word and don't follow it.' 'Then why did you tell me?' It's necessary for God to be  mindlessly cruel, burning all nonbelievers alike; or in the case of Mormonism damning them to a lesser glory, one they cannot transcend forever and ever. If God didn't punish people for not liking him or even disagreeing with him...then His word would be pointless. Just like it is. You can't believe in God--the one from the scriptures---you can't serve a Lord who is patently merciless and monstrous and call yourself a religion of peace. It doesn't work. You can't "love" you neighbor, and then love the guy that's going to torture your carpool for all eternity. That actually makes you a...kind of a high functioning psychopath. And I get that it's a common belief structure cultivated by any number of people, some lovely some not, but...yeah it's still a severely malicious delusion.

I wrote that and boy did I get a fuck ton of flack for it by some Muslim guy. He kept trying to paint me as some hate monger, because I hate his religion; which I have every right to hate because it's a documented philosophy with literal commandments and stipulations for the behavior of its followers. If they don't follow the Qu'ran then they're not true muslims; their religion is man-made and lacks any divine credibility. If they do follow the quoran than they believe in a God that says over and over (to the point of tourettes) that if you don't believe in him he'll roast your skin inside out for all eternity. Which makes Allah a despotic asshole and anyone who believes in him enablers and part of the problem. I don't have to like a believer that hates me enough to threaten me with eternal torture and then worship a God who they believe actually does it. I don't think I need to explain why I'm fully justified not to like any religion that maintains those kinds of amoral policies. I might think the world of the individuals who do, despite their psychotic sado-masochistic delusion, buuuut that doesn't mean I have to like their religion. The guy was convinced to hate one was to hate them both. And I could not get him to either A) acknowledge his own scriptures; B)to justify them logically; or C)to admit he was making for his fainting couch and calling me a big ol' meanie face because I shamed him for believing something so despicable as a God torturing people who don't do what he says or think what he thinks.

Well to me, equality just means that everybody has to have the same chances. I mean, we have kids here who come from families who have no choice but to live on social welfare. These kids already have no chance of getting out of that. Society doesn't give them that chance (there's heavy selection going on in primary schools (Grundschule it's called here - I just mention that since you can't really compare the different American and German schools). Kids from "lower-class" families will never be encourage to visit one of the higher schools. But they should have that chance. That is what I mean by equality.

I'm with you on the religion point. Religion has never propagated peace since it needs to vilify other believers to give it's own believers a reason for staying in the religion.

That last part about the muslim is just silly (on his part). But his is a problem many more devout believers.
