now that last piece is exactly what I'd love to hear as a comment on the pic itself - I'm very flattered that you're still drawn to it the 2nd/3rd time around.
I started on self-portraits for one reason alone: I had a subconscious ethical barrier from shooting portraits of others since I was so against getting in front of the lens - always hiding behind it. I wanted to start shooting some street photography and portraits but something did not feel right about it. so as a challenge to myself I shot a series of rolls of film on myself - confronting my fear of being captured and succeeding I think. because of my skewed view of myself I think they came out with an interesting and personal touch - each a piece of me. intimate self portraits were my way to come to terms with myself moreso than anything else. in posing for others since I've never been as happy with the result because there is something within me that holds back or looks nervous - maybe I subconsciously do not want to expose my true self for just anyone.

Does it feel right now, taking portraits of other people? Interesting and personal, definitely, I look at your self portraits and I feel, calm, quiet, like I should be holding my breath so I don't disturb the silence that you captured in that instant, even a little sad too, maybe not sad, sombre.
Who knows you better than you, I think that's why your shots work so well, you gave yourself freely when you were taking the photo, and now we get to see the result. Were there anymore from the group, or just those two?
Does your partner ever hold the camera? How does he see you? I hope I haven't over stepped a boundary, I apologize if I have, please let me know.

better, though I'm still slightly more hesitant than I'd like to be on the street and I've only shot portraits of a couple of my close friends. in my gallery I have three intimate self-portraits, two as part of a pair, and two of me as part of my surroundings. I have others that I might scan & upload in time and plan to shoot others within the next few months (it's been years)
in the end, it's as if I became more comfortable shooting myself since I know my own expectations and I don't have to worry about the binary of taking the shot I want vs. what the model desires.
and my partner has shot me on one occasion - here's our favourite: [link]
thank you very much for your kindness and honesty.
