You're welcome
I enjoy looking at sacred geometry- I've tried to draw my own flower of life- it is a bit challenging when my compass gets offset from its original placement. As a result the piece doesn't always appear even :/

Try using a screw adjustable compass (not sure what they're called). Drawing straight lines from centre (after first layer of circles) also helps.

Dude, I used to live in southern MD, in the Great Mills area. XD Sorry, I was looking at random deviants and noticed where you said you lived.

Well, I used to live in Lexington Park and Pax River when I was a kid. I moved around since- and then returned to Southern Maryland...

I've only moved once in my entire life, and it was to here, western Maryland.

For school? I'm guessing.
For myself, I've been to a lot of places- seen both coasts of the US, Hawaii, been on the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, been sailing and crossed the Equator.

No, we moved into the family house.
You've been a lot farther than I have. X3 I've only been so far west as Colorado, So far south as Sanibel Florida, so far north as New Jersey (at least that's what mt parents tell me, I was too young to remember that) and I've been to the Atlantic in Rehobeth and Ocean City.

I hate to bring a fellow aviation buff bad news, but we've lost a true legend today. Neil Armstrong passed away.

Yes, I read the news today- Oh, boy. He still lives on in all of us who still hope to reach the stars...

Russian-Fox In reply to SoftShellback [2012-08-26 21:09:10 +0000 UTC]
Indeed.
We throw the term "hero" around a lot these days. Almost with reckless abandon. But Armstrong was the real deal.
How many countless children said, after July 20th, 1969 said "I wanna be like Neil Armstrong when I grow up."

SoftShellback In reply to Russian-Fox [2012-08-27 03:47:46 +0000 UTC]
Well, I didn't want to be Neil...I did want to be a jet pilot when I was younger- I was around jets a lot since my dad was Navy and he knew aviators and technicians who maintained aircraft so they let me have an up close and personal look. I was thrilled when they let me sit in the cockpit of an A-4J when I was around 7 or 8 (Seemed like yesterday...) so I made it a mission to make the attempt- I was disappointed when I was told that my eyes wouldn't allow it- I have 20/40 vision in both eyes

That was a similar situation with me.
My grandfather used to take me to Dover Air Force Base back in the 1980s when I was a young kid. Back then they were flying F-106's, among other fighters and we'd watch them come and go all day long. From that I was hooked, I wanted to fly.
Fast forward a bit to when I was just out of high school and was talking to a Marine recruiter. He was looking for fighter pilots and I told him I wanted to give it a shot. Unfortunately, my appauling vision of 20/350 (yes, they're THAT bad) killed that dream right then and there.

By the by I strolled through your gallery- I feel all your work is lovely. Most of it is dark in tone- and each piece expresses how one feels when the work is captured. I enjoy the lighter stuff best

RosenrotOhRosenrot In reply to SoftShellback [2012-06-22 06:53:46 +0000 UTC]
Aww thankyou Haha its just a matter of personal taste I think whether someone enjoys the lighter or darker stuff best. My main reason for doing art was to release my emotions so that's why so much of my work is emotional

You're welcome I agree art just has that sort of magic to express what we feel when the words often escape us. For me it allows me to reveal what are my passions. In my case, I draw women. They could be fanart, divinities, or a pretty lady in the same room with me. As a man my desire to admire the feminine form has found a means to say what I lack in eloquence...

You're quite welcome. I have an affinity for the samurai- it's just something about their ethos which has great appeal to me

I love the samurai, myself. They're second only to the Spartans (and for similar reasons) as my next fave historic warrior class/culture

I guess we're the sort who are lost in this era and long for a time where character means much more compared to a bank account or physical features.....

AndrewDent In reply to SoftShellback [2012-03-20 04:41:53 +0000 UTC]
Exactly I'll admit, I probably wouldn't last one day in ancient times, lol XD But I have a major admiration for the various warrior societies, and their creeds. The Norsemen, with their beliefs of Valhalla for those who die in battle, is another good example
