Just wanted to stop by and thanks for your comment on my recent venture into portraiture. I would actually have to side with the points ~charge makes, but that's the great thing about art, it's subjective!

Hi Rachel!
Thanks for the great comment on Varied Thrush. The day was very dark/stormy, hense the "painted" look. I'm hoping it will return on a nicer day (maybe next spring? ha!). You liked the messy yard background?? ha again!

Hi Rachel!
Thank you so much for your thoughts on " Let Your Dim Light Shine" - I just had a quick look at your gallery and I was really impressed, especially by the soft, pastel-colored photos.
Stay warm!

Hi Rachel!
Thanks for the great comment on Bufflehead Male! Digi-scoping can be really easy or hard as heck! Some cameras lend themselves to it, like Nikon's Coolpix line, Sony isn't the greatest for it. The camera seems to pick and choose it's level of co-operation! Focus is the main issue, I feel very lucky when a shot turns out, plus I take lots and lots of exposures. That's why I love digital, if the shot doesn't work, eh who cares! Try, try again. Also, I loose quite a few pixels to vigitnetting, about half. Argghhh!

rain1man [2003-11-18 18:16:54 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I don't think that the wind can effect your photo. setting the good exposure is just a lil harder as we shoot more in sunny weather. Wind and rain means gray time. you have to try out different White balances and contrast settings and much more if your cam allows it

Yup, I think thats where my problem is with my camera - light balance and contrast.

I'm learning though

Hi Rachel!
Thanks for the cool comment on House Finch v1. I enjoy birding, it's a relaxing/frustrating hobby!! As far as " getting close"....I almost hate to say it, but I use a spotting scope attached to my camera, so I can be all the way on the far side of the yard (the birds are much more relaxed with me not right next to the tree). It just looks like I'm standing right next to them. Most of my birding photos use the scope, except for a very few, very lucky hand held shots.

Hi Rachel!
Thanks for the return comments and on Lynx Standing. I cheated a bit for that shot. The lynx lives at NW Trek. It's something between a nature preserve and a zoo. The exhibit areas are VERY large, so often the "cats" can hide to the point of not seeing them. Most of the animals in exhibits were damaged and couldn't be returned to the wild. They also have a huge free roaming area, the deer can jump the fence, so come and go as they please. I like it, it's really cool!!! (Can you tell?)

I would love to visit a preserve like that! I went to the Oregon zoo a year or two ago and I LOVED it. Wish I had brought my camera, but I didnt

Hi Rachel!
Thanks for the great comment on Floating By. Seagulls are a bit on the pesty side and frankly easy targets for photos, but I'd rather work on the harder subjects (like that Kingfisher!!). You're very special.
I just read that you've had a birthday!!! Many happy returns! Sorry I missed it.

Canon 300D is a very nice camera. It could get to be on the expensive side. The body is just the start of the cost, then there's the add-on lenses. DSLR is a great way to go. I've heard some very good reviews of this body...but it is a plastic shell, treat it gently.

Money shmoney
I need a good mid level SLR, the 300D seems like the best bet at the moment, but I may wait until something better pops up.
