thank you very much for the favourite on "Go Figure" Was there anything you particularly liked about it, or something you saw that could be changed for the better?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kakashiplushie In reply to Zephelia-Rising [2011-02-06 12:36:02 +0000 UTC]

You're very welcome. ^^

Hmm, honestly, I think it's great the way it is. What really got me was the second part of the second stanza.

it's execution: brilliant
it's product: exquisite

'execution' has a nice rhythm going with the word 'retribution' in the last line. Whether intentional or not, I thought that sounded great. I like that it's short and simple and makes sense. I'm not a fan of works that hide the meaning beneath scores of words pulled out from the underbellies of a dictionary. Go Figure, while not intensely deep or philosophical, was neat and concise, which is something hard to find in free verse poetry which usually trails words all over the place.

So yeah. I don't give critiques often but I hope that helped somehow, haha. Much luck with the rest of your ventures in writing.

Zephelia-Rising In reply to kakashiplushie [2011-02-08 03:45:21 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. That pairing with 'execution' and 'retribution' are definitely coincidental, I didn't notice that till now. What I did keep together was the beginning letter of 'e' in execution and exquisite.

I love the poetry that isn't some hassle to figure out and is all weird. I've tried writing a few of those type of poems, but they are weird enough to write.

Thank you very much! YOu were one of the few that actually seem to get back to me when I ask for a mini critique

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kakashiplushie In reply to Zephelia-Rising [2011-02-09 10:37:17 +0000 UTC]

Ah well, that's something I didn't see. XD It's kind of cool to see how two people look at a piece and see different things. And I agree, it's nice to know what the pretty words mean, haha. I mean, primarily, I like that something sounds nice and that the writer's leaving me to figure the meaning out, but sometimes I just don't get it. XDD

You're very welcome. I sympathize; I know how hard it is to get critique, especially here on dA when people are more used to visual pieces. In fact, I'm happy that you asked. You're the only one who's ever asked me for critique and that, to me, makes me feel like the piece is really worth something to you. I admire that in a writer. ^^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Zephelia-Rising In reply to kakashiplushie [2011-02-10 00:19:24 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I had a conversation all about the different things people see within a poem. It was rather interesting. Especially what people read into poems, because they seem to put personal experiences into it when they read though the poem.

Very hard =.= I try to ask everyonce and a while for critique from favouriters, but only for poems I feel could either use some tweaking, or like so much I want feedback. This one had a bit of both.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kakashiplushie In reply to Zephelia-Rising [2011-02-12 04:18:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I agree. People like that art sympathizes with them. It's kind of vain but kind of sweet at the same time.

Well, I hope I helped then. ^^ I should try doing that too, asking for critique when people fave, I mean. Doubt I'll get much response but hey, it's worth a try.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Zephelia-Rising In reply to kakashiplushie [2011-02-12 06:10:45 +0000 UTC]

It really makes sense though. The ones that seem to correlate with their issues, they end up liking the most. Emotions are the weirdest things...

When I ask I normally get two people who really get back to me with a 'critique' of sorts. Most just say "I loved it all!!" and I just leave it at that

You're very welcome! That piece was incredibly beautiful. I wanted to leave a comment but I just couldn't find the right words. >< The format and flow was amazing. I suppose an actor would read it the same way they'd read a poem but that's just me. (Agh, rambling.)

Um, question though. How did you manage to get the indentation right? I've always used < ul > for my own deviations. There's always an extra space and it really annoys me. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lucy-Merriman In reply to kakashiplushie [2011-02-04 01:49:17 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure, actually. Either I just copy-pasted it from a word document and it just let me keep the formatting, or I put in a million spaces with the space bar.

I'm really glad you liked it, though Actually, I've recently incorporated it into a One Act play that I hope to put on at a local One Acts festival, so I guess I'll see what happens when actors read it. That's one of the cool things about writing for stage, you can hear how other people hear your words in their own voice

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kakashiplushie In reply to Lucy-Merriman [2011-02-04 07:23:31 +0000 UTC]

I'm thinking it's the million spaces one. I've tried copypasting from all sorts of places but it ends up misaligned. XD And I think it's awesome that someone's going to read it aloud! That must be really exciting for you. I haven't tried writing for stage but it sounds interesting. Have you posted the play somewhere? I'd really like to read it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Lucy-Merriman In reply to kakashiplushie [2011-02-08 02:30:14 +0000 UTC]

Well, I posted a draft, but it's not the most recent one. Pretty soon (tomorrow or the next day?) I'll post it. It's part of a One Act called Funny How We've Never Met. Although, it's still really short, and it's definitely not the last I'll write about Claude.

I didn't start writing for stage until I tried acting in High School. I took two Acting classes, and I started to love the writer/director/actor triangle, how each person takes a piece of writing and brings their own spin and interpretation to it. Personally, I think it's really exciting to see what other people do with what I write, but I know it's not for everyone. Some writers are very protective of their vision, and I get that.

kakashiplushie In reply to Lucy-Merriman [2011-02-09 10:26:58 +0000 UTC]

Well then I'm looking forward to it. I'll check your page soon. And I think I see what you mean about writers being protective of their vision. Like how fans complain when the book gets turned into the movie, I'm guessing? But in this case, at least the writer gets to play an active part in the reenactment of the piece. I've never acted before (I was the backstage props person in MY high school) but I've started to get interested in theater ever since I started college. Thanks for your insight. I'll keep it in mind if ever I have any ideas for the stage.
