Hey! Hope everything is well. Have a question about animations here on deviantart. How do you submit them? finished a animation a couple of months ago which i would like to put up here. Btw the sss face, even though u feel its still grainy, It´s still a great render

sicklizard In reply to sebbeklaren [2011-10-31 16:12:21 +0000 UTC]

Well, thanks a lot^^
I submit short animations as GIF files. You must choose thew right category before uploading the image. You do that on the submission form directly under the title of your deviation. Choose something like "Digital art>miscellaneous>animation". Guess you can also use real movie clips when you convert them into flash format. BUt I never tried that. Another possibility is the deviant art film submission. But I never figured out how to submit there, either. I recommend you to use Photoshop CS3 or better to A: turn your AVI into GIF and B: use the save for web or devices function to optimize your clip (like color depth or web snap). PLay around with the different dither modes.
Don´t wonder if that save window needs time to render the final animation (bake down colors, etc.), but you can save a lot of memory with that. Of course, like always it´s a balance between quality and needed data space.
But I recommend you to not put up to large files. even a short clip at about 20 mb takes a long time to load on machine with slow connection. I usually try not to make them bigger than 5 to 10 mb. If it gets bigger, you should make an divX out of it and get familiar with the da-film submission form.
Hope that helps for the start^^

Hi there. I saw your comment on my picture and it kinda confused me. I've read your introducing story, saw those funny "3d" pictures. Yes, you are right, its not 3D art its 2d art, I accidently gave that category, but I edited it after your comment.

One thing I dont understand is why you had to write something that makes me feel like im an idiot?

sicklizard In reply to Schuty [2011-10-06 08:10:31 +0000 UTC]

Sorry about that. Didn´t want to insult you. Didn´t put your thing onto my journal´s shitlist, because I like your work. But all that scrap I listed there made me angry.
But when I am angry, I get bitchy.
Just saw your image after getting pissed over about 100 others, which I saw before.

As a matter of fact, deviantart has nobody looking around millions of deviations if they are in an appropriate category. So, we as members and artists have to organize that on our own. Hope you understand my point

very nice to meet you man.
i am doing some stuffs in maya.
And your renders are stunning pal.
and ofcourse help needed in here...
I mean.not to bother you.
some tips in rendering.your techniques.

sicklizard In reply to rohitrajan [2011-08-23 19:34:47 +0000 UTC]

I rarely use maya. But rendering is the same everywhere. I use Maxwell a lot. It´s external and an scenefile export plugin is available for maya, too.
Your living room scene is quite amazing, so you don´t seem to be a bloody beginner anymore. But it could have a (tiny) little more saturation.
I often choose a perspektive, that doesn´t show much of a background.
Of course, I use HDRi a lot for backgrounds. But depending on your camera zoom level, they must have huge solutions like 2000x4000 minimum. So I you want to render a scene just lighted by the HDRi, without directly showing the background (for example, when you look down to the ground), I suggest you to create a copy of the image with a much smaller resolution. Texture memory drasticly affects the render times.
Maxwell doesn´t support something like parametric lights, so I usually use objects with a glowing material instead. That makes the shadows appear much softer and more realistic. But for Maxwell, there is an important basic rule, which goes for any other renderer, supporting light materials as light sources, as mental ray, for example. I just saw that you use it.
The smaller the lightsource, the more rendertime. Why? Simple: The smaller an object, the smaller the chance for a render sample beam to "hit" it. So check out using big planes or something like that to light a scene in which the lightsource itself can´t be seen.
I use cinema4D for modeling and setting things up and mantal ray is still in beta status available, so I don´t really use it. But I once did and made some experience with final gather. Always play around with sample counts, wherever they can be set.
That can be GI-settings, motion blur, depth of field, or blurry reflection, etc.
Often, a little graininess looks much more realistic than a perfect clean render.
Another thing is: Dont render what can´t be seen. Of course, something visible as a reflection in a mirror must be in the scene. But usually you create a scene first and then you choose a perspective.
But in the final view angle, sometimes things in the scene dissapear behind other things or just are out of viewangle. Turn them off for the renderer. They just suck performance. At least check out, if there will be a difference. Of course, things out of view can still affect the scene with GI, caustics, shadows and stuff. So every scene has to be optimized again.
Learn to use everykind of baking functions. They need more RAM. But way less CPU.
Baking means rendering the surfaces of an object into an image file. A video clip with one object moving through a still scene can render much faster when stuff like shadows or GI don´t have to be rerendered for every single frame.
You must learn to tweak wherever it´s necessary.
I do a lot of testrenders. Means, I turn off every option, which is not needed to see a specific feature or function. So I can adjust this function faster and more efficient.
Cinema4D and maxwell have solutions for rendering the viewport in realtime, while you are working and changing the scene. Something like that can be very useful in the right hands. But I don´t know, if that´s possible with Maya.
I hope, I was helpful. Pass by again, if you like

rohitrajan In reply to sicklizard [2011-08-26 19:52:26 +0000 UTC]

That's a very elaborate reply sir.
i am very glad to recieve that.
the background is just a surface shader.
I thought of rendering two images and blurring it to get the effect that i wanted.but the system is too slow.
haven't baked the textures.
well there is no textures to bake actually.all are procedural shaders.the truth is,i don't know how to apply it.its ok.now i know it.
the current image iam working on is textured.ofcourse i will consider to bake the textures.i have also used many psd networking in the project.but i haven't deleted it though i am not using it.i think it will affect the memmory .don't you think so.
i am in search of creating more realistic renders which is having more artistic quality.but i am not hoping that i could make it within a few shots.i know that.i think it will take atleast 10 renders.Atleast to begin.
i have used gi and final gather in that.
caustics! iam not that comfortable in that as a newbie.
but iam planning to use that in the current project.
(please be kind enough to give your comments in that.you can critizice if you want to.i will be very glad.)
talking about the perspective, there was another option to use an imax lens in the camera. but the frame struck in my mind.well its not my creation actually.i got an old photo of an interior.something like an urban design type.it was not the perfect angle we used for filming but it was one which is having that natural effect.well the picture was like that.it was perfect.there were some awesome textures in it.i was unable to do that.I knew i couldn't do that.if i was trying for it,it would have concieved more time.so i made it in my way.
so that is about the perspective you have mentioned.
And you said about the graininess.
I certainly agree with that.but i think you need a mental ray material to do that.for getting that effect.
does mental ray works the in cinema 4d as in maya?
And the next thing is the depth of field.
certainly consider that
thank you very much for your support.

sicklizard In reply to rohitrajan [2011-08-28 21:16:52 +0000 UTC]

I didn´t do much with mental ray, since it´s just a beta version with no further manual documentation. I couldn´t figure out, how to make everything work properly, but basicly, it works in the same way. There is also a special additional renderer called iRay. It renders physically correct. renders long but looks awesome.

rohitrajan In reply to sicklizard [2011-08-29 06:07:56 +0000 UTC]

physically correct means the interaction of photons with materials?
1.you mean by you don't have to adjust the photonic attributes for its interaction with a specific material.
2.A more advanced version of mental ray or some other plugins.
And thank you very much for your time sir.
it was such an inspiration talking to you...
Expecting more proffessional works from your side.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sicklizard In reply to rohitrajan [2011-08-29 21:27:13 +0000 UTC]

physically correct means, it renders without restriction of bounces or sample count.
In the material editor you just set behaviours of the interaction between light and material like index of refraction, roughness, reflection and absorption color. those are the basic settings. You have multiple layers for things like matte material with a glosse coating or metal with complex grind effekts, like here: [link]
Every lightray gets reflected, fracted, split or scattered by physical algorithms.
Motion blur, for example, is caused by the shutter speed. You adjust the shutter speed to affect the exposure, while the motion blur is more or less an unwanted side-effect, because of not only shooting a single moment but a very short amount of time.
Depth of field blur appears because of the f-stop size of the camera and the focus settings.
So no effects are faked or postfiltered, they are calculated by physical rules.
Renders slow, but with the right materials and good textures, you can create absolutely photolike images. You should search for "unbiased renderer", "physic based render" or "maxwell render" with google picture search for some examples.
There will be more to come^^
