One should never look at your recent gallery pieces hungry on an empty stomach - they look yummy!

You're welcome! You have a great gallery. I wish I could easily sift through which works are digital and which are traditional -- it can be a bit deceiving.

Pineman In reply to tryingfailingtrying [2010-01-26 23:39:09 +0000 UTC]
Thank you!
I'm sorry you had difficulties βsiftingβ through my stuff. But each piece is clearly labelled in itβs category and will be traditional, digital or photography.
Though you probably mean the works could be better sorted in their various folders etc.
When I get the time I will most likely do that.
Thanks for the input!

Sorry for the callous use of the word sift. My personal interest is in traditional works, but amazingly, you have a cohesion in style between your digital and traditional paintings so that it's difficult to distinguish at first glance! I wonder, do you have a personal preference between the two?

No need for the apology as I didnβt take your comment as callous. Not at all. You brought to my attention a valid point.
Itβs very perceptive of you to spot the similarities between some of the digital and traditional pieces; and thereβs a good reason for that.
Every traditional painting I undertake whether itβs acrylics, oils, inks or mixed medias; I always plan the project on the computer first. When Iβm happy with things I will print out the picture to scale( this often means I then have to tape 2,4,or sometimes 6 pieces of A4 paper together to give me my source image); I then draw a grid on the canvas and do a rough plot of the drawing on to said canvas. I then break out the paints and take it from there. Sometimes I canβt be doing with all this and so Iβll leave the project at its digital stage and occasionally if Iβm happy with the digital version Iβll post that as a digital painting. A good case in point is my digital painting of Renee Zellweger [link] . If I had taken it to the traditional stage and committed it to canvas it would have looked very similar to the digital version simply because that would have been my template to work from.
I hope my attempt to explain it all hasnβt served to confuse you even more!

I think I get it! I've never painted digitally, but I have done digital touch-ups, web graphics and vector design, so I'm familiar with some planning stages.
I wonder if you feel personally different about having completed a digital painting than completing a traditional painting? I prefer to be able to see and feel my "original", a sensation that doesn't exist on the digital level. On the other hand, digital art is the ultimate sustainable art form. It's all a tradeoff!
Happy painting, digital or otherwise!

Pineman In reply to tryingfailingtrying [2010-01-28 18:53:23 +0000 UTC]
You're right; there's a big difference. For me a physical painting gives much more satisfaction. It exists in the real world, it can be hung on a wall, given to a friend, or sold to a client. It is totally unique and has character. A digital work doesnβt really come close to being what a traditional piece is.
And youβre right about the trade-off because the are many points in favour of the digital piece and Iβm sure youβre aware of those so I wont ramble on any further.
Itβs been nice talking to you; and thank you for wishing me happy painting.
I wish you likewise.

You're very welcome! I think it's great to find someone who not only is creative, but finds ways to help others in practical ways with what they make. Well, now I'll have to get out the sewing machine my mom got me back in high school and figure out how to use it! Thank you for the watch.

You would think I would have learned to stop trying after all these years! Fortunately, I seem to have as thick of a head as Homer, and even less accidental wisdom. Thanks for the favorite
