As one who dabbles in adult fiction, and enjoys legal adult entertainment, it was incumbent upon me to study up on the laws a long time ago so I could keep myself on the proper side of many legal lines.

It's never wise to trust anyone else's perspectives, so I strongly encourage everyone to be aware of their Nation's legal restrictions should they wish to stray into darker corners.

I envy your weather over mine.

Weather? You mean, 11 to 14 degrees Celsius indoors?

Certainly, my dear computer likes it; especially when rendering!

Had a NSF opportunity about 15 years ago at the McM Station, but life got in the way.  Still think about that lost opportunity quite a bit.
Enjoy the "summer" and benefits while you can.

Summer-season technical support ... specific assignment and location determined by the site NSF science director or logistics manager.

I wouldn't have cared if it was sorting the mail, washing dishes, site maintenance, or heavy equipment operator on specific science op's ... I just wanted to have the chance to provide support at such a remote location.

Also wish I could have done it at least three times during "summer" to qualify for a long-season support assignment.  I love the cold, and I was hoping for a South Pole opportunity, but no ............

Heavy sigh ..........

Are you currently on-site and on assignment?  Very curious, but don't let me jeopardize anything you're doing.

Actually, what I was subtly fishing for is one or more establishing shots of your city
  —parks, inhabitants frolicking, an’ all—
or else, a detailed map, so that one can get a better mental image of your world.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chronophontes In reply to ttobserve [2016-11-03 20:56:24 +0000 UTC]

The city isn't the main part of Chronophontia.  There's a map, though I couldn't call it detailed: Chronophontia, version 2 . Up until 2013, I didn't have any visualization of Chronophontia at all - it was just an arbitrary fantasy place where people live and things happen.  The visualization is mostly thanks to Lady-Cinderella , who created the kingdom of Onen to the north of Chronophontia (Onen map, version 2 ).  I don't have an establishing shot of the city, unless Step carefully or Not quite so giant counts.  (I don't think it's really that big a metropolis, it's just that those were all the "city" props I have, and apparently all that exist.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ttobserve In reply to Chronophontes [2016-11-03 22:01:27 +0000 UTC]

Aha: your Onen map   is quite a surprise!

A map on such a grand scale deserves a globe, don’t you think?

City props, okay, well; I can see two directions for you to move forward:

  • One, is to devote some time to landscaping and architecture.
Perhaps there is a particular style that you might want to explore?

  • Another, is to concentrate on what the inhabitants actually DO,
and try to show that, in context. It’s a lot of work!
How many hours a week can you devote to this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chronophontes In reply to ttobserve [2016-11-04 01:26:13 +0000 UTC]

Deserves a globe?  Sure, but I'm not sure what else would go into it.  This stuff is basically on the far side of the Bermuda Triangle, so it occupies approximately the same space as eastern North America and the Caribbean.  (Chronophontia is in the tropics, which is why it's always warm except when the inhabitants want it to be cold.)

I'm especially interested in who the characters ARE - and that's a challenge!  One picture is almost never enough.  As for what they do, most of my images show them doing something - though sometimes just standing or lying around looking pretty.

How many hours a week?  Since I retired, I've been working on my art full time - probably fifty or sixty hours a week.  I don't know that I'd try to devote all or most of that to building their physical world.  Their psychological world is plenty of challenge.

…As for what they do, most of my images show them doing something
—though sometimes just standing or lying around looking pretty…

In our world, the advent of the technological singularity
is something I worry about, because I can see no way that we can possibly avoid it,
given the fact that people in different parts of the world are actively striving toward it!
As soon as “genuine” artificial intelligence is proven feasible,
how can you possibly prevent, for decades and centuries forth,
some hacker in a garage from unleashing superintelligent code?

But, okay, suppose we could avoid that kind of disaster, then,
presumably, medicine and automation should continue to advance until

  • We live very long lives, mostly feeling healthy and horny, but
  • We cannot keep on reproducing, because our planet does not grow!
    On the other hand,
  • Boring jobs will all be automated, so productivity will be up and up,
with the result that the traditional family pattern of
    • fix an address,
    • have kids,
    • go out every day, come back in the evening
that, will be out the window, so to speak.
  • So then, what shall we do, other than lie around and look pretty?

The best I can think of is a campus-like lifestyle:
study, party, take care of your body, discuss, stay connected,
—oh yes: with implants, we’ll need no screens and keyboards to stay connected!

...Their psychological world is plenty of challenge...

Ah, yes; and then there is culture, which will modulate psychology to various degrees:
in a busy port city, with people coming in and out from different religions and languages,
    the local culture will be broadly tolerant and diverse in terms of food, etc.;
on an island that has little contact with the “outside” one would expect more of a
    cultural consensus, right?

    Your partner Lady Cinderella  evidently has her own view of Chronophontian culture;
do you ever brainstorm such things as children, the economy, and so forth?
