Hey Beata, have you ever seen Phil Hale? How about Winston Chmielinski? I was trying to figure out earlier what... uh, what... you know... corner of the art world to lump you into, and then I thought of these two... so of course I had to come running back to tell ya. Haha... sorry, I'm being moronic maybe. Oh well, I was just visiting again sniffing around for new stuff.. heh. Ok enough nonsense. Later.

I have definitely came across Phil's work before, but I appreciate the refreshment. I'll dig a little deeper into his work this time. And Winston? He is a buddy of mine, I LOVE THIS MAN. I went to see his solo in NY, amazement all around.Β

Also if you are into this type of artistic aesthetic, check out Steve Kim, another favorite.

Oh yes! I thought Steve Kim sounded familiar, and then realized I had seen his work and been following him to some degree in the past. I love all that morphy stuff missing type of painting and drawing. The kind where there are just enough lines and color to make your eye realize what's going on in the composition, but leaving out enough to let your mind complete the picture.

That must have been great to see Winston's work in the flesh, wow. How do you know him? School? I really liked the track he was on earlier about a year ago... now he has kinda, i dunno, maybe he is turning out more work... it seems to not be as thought out as it was a year ago... maybe he has had to prepare for a show or something. Of course I could be imagining the whole thing too... lol

Oh wait a minute, I just thought of someone for you to look at... Karim Hamid: www.facebook.com/karim.hamid.a…
His work is very interesting... although not exactly in the same vein..

Ugh, I better go back and stare at Steve Kim some more

Exactly! No need to give everything out, where's the magic of the human imagination?

Completely agree about Winston, i see his work as a progress, whatever he was doing before he apparently has gotten it out of his system. The boy is taking risks and challenging himself and for that i will forever be supportive of. The work now might not be as strong, but you should know that it will always be changing, and that is the spirit of a real artist. Continuously progressing and changing. What do you now, I might throw in a wild card myself. You might not always m\like the direction my work goes, but I hope I have an audience that understands and is there for me no matter what. They say a real artist is someone who is not afraid to make a bad painting. it is so true, the bad painting is a "process" to something really amazing, it's a pebble in the shoe every artist has to go through in order to find the next diamond in the rough.Β

Karim Hamid? I think I might have seen his work in person at some point, genius.Β

Sorry I haven't been able to respond until now. Winter has brought all manner of problems to my life with boilers and stupid stuff like that.Β

"They say a real artist is someone who is not afraid to make a bad painting.Β "
If that's true, then I must be a frikkin' genius, cause I turn out pure shite by the truckload. But I suppose I am still learning. Well, actually always will be...Β

Yeah, constantly changing... I think your audience will understand that as long as it changes in steps that aren't too severe all at once. Like if you started making macramΓ© out of pussy willows suddenly, it might not fly, but if you slowly transitioned into it...

Anyway... I liked your way of description: "a pebble in the shoe every artist has to go through"

Excellent words.

haha, yes well it does gradually happen, changes. The brain develops only so fast.Β

He's pretty awesome, especially in regard to the colours he uses.
Do you think one can improve their skills in drawing/painting/etc. on their own and even become really proficient at those, but they will lack the ability to assess their own work the way a scholar would do? That's what I've heard somewhere, at least.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

xluvmexrabitx In reply to hirsch-hirsch [2013-06-25 03:52:50 +0000 UTC]

Definitely, the more you do it the better you get really. Also when you say proficient, do you mean realistic? We all have a different definition of proficient, BUT once you do get to that "Proficient" stage, you might find yourself broadening out and experimenting.

Once you can easily do something difficult you can experiment effortlessly and discover pretty amazing stuff, so keep working!

So I tought; I'm actually starting to regret I haven't enrolled to an art college for my BA, now I can definitely see the difference between those with an academic/professional background and those self-taught, and the usual advantage of the former.
Anyway: good luck with your shows and keep being awesome
