Uhm... I think I know what you want
You should edit the CSS of the skin and add this code:

.left { float: left; width: auto; }

Then, you add the image on your journal, and add the class of "left", like this:

And that is all! Let me know if you want to add more space between the image and the list, or if you need more help.

Hello!
I'm posting this comment because I'm searching for someone who can code journal skins for me <3
I'm mainly searching someone who I can regularly commission for coding (I will pay in points or art, depending on what you want)

At the moment, I have two skins that need coding, though they're fairly simple. Ex. [link] (It's just basic coding with a scrollbox for both and one with a .gif cursor if that's possible)
So, what I'm basically trying to say is, is that I want to 'hire' someone to code journal skins for me <'3
If someone responds, I can send them the bigger file without the watermark and everything <3

I can offer max 100 points per skin (preferably 60) and 1 commission drawing of choice per skin
Note me if you're interested!

It is an easy mistake, the DA preview automatically resizes unless you specify "Original Size"

Hello,
There are two ways:
1. to commission someone to do your own skin;
2. to learn CSS.
The second is a long way, so if you want to learn it don't get frustrated so quickly

can someone tell me if it is possible to make something like an emoticon follow the cursor

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

gillianivyart In reply to Johannthedestroyer [2012-05-29 03:13:55 +0000 UTC]

Optionally, you can make an animated gif cursor with an emote + cursor arrow. Add the following line to your journal, with # being the URL of image to be used.

cursor:url(#) pointer;

Johannthedestroyer In reply to gillianivyart [2012-05-30 17:47:04 +0000 UTC]

thanks i'll try it

Nesmaty In reply to Johannthedestroyer [2012-05-27 16:36:33 +0000 UTC]

I think that needs java scripts .. which is not applicable in DA journal skins if that's where you want to use it

hey, does anyone know how to get moods feature to go on my background, instead of just putting back ground colours behind it?

this is the css code: [link]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nesmaty In reply to rainismysunshine [2012-05-25 21:32:16 +0000 UTC]

Try this:

.f{background:transparent;}

rainismysunshine In reply to Nesmaty [2012-05-25 22:07:01 +0000 UTC]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nesmaty In reply to rainismysunshine [2012-05-26 10:28:51 +0000 UTC]

With the code above add:

.journalbox {
background-color:
#000000 !important;} ---> will make it black behind the moods

Or have the same background image:

.journalbox {
background: url([link] ) repeat;

rainismysunshine In reply to Nesmaty [2012-05-26 13:47:38 +0000 UTC]

Hi! Has anyone figured out how to get rid of the horrible, apparently un-styleable footer that's been forced on our Journals? I can't seem to get outside the sandbox to control it

If not, has anyone considered marching angrily on dA's web development department?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

gillianivyart In reply to monstroooo [2012-05-20 01:34:27 +0000 UTC]

The .journal-footer thing is only on the front page and in the journals pages, not on the journal deviation. It is outside of the sandbox we are allowed to play in. Some people have complained. Myself I do not see it as an intrusion. I think it was decided upon to add uniformity. You'll also see it on News articles search and journal search, which can make it less confusing to find the title and details. I'm not sure what department you might want to complain to. But an option to turn it off on your personal page and journals page might be a suggestion.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

monstroooo In reply to gillianivyart [2012-05-20 08:05:23 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Gillian!

It's the frontpage footer that's causing me grief! My group (#WritersInk ) uses a Journal to create a sort of welcome banner on the homepage. That footer rather spoils the magic, though! It also happens to look very untidy in my regular Journals.

Your solution of a switch sounds like a good idea - although if, for some reason, they've done it for uniformity, they probably won't want to give us a way of turning it off (otherwise they'd put it in the sandbox, surely?).

Nice to know some people are moaning, I think I'll add my voice to theirs.

Thanks again for the input - very insightful!

SilverPixiGirl In reply to monstroooo [2012-05-19 13:30:59 +0000 UTC]

That's not a footer, and not part of your actual journal.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

monstroooo In reply to SilverPixiGirl [2012-05-19 21:46:01 +0000 UTC]

Sorry if this posts twice, working from a mobile here with limited success

Thanks!

The DIV element which contains the content I wish to style is called 'journal-footer', which is why I call it a 'footer'. In any case, the point is that it's immune to any CSS classes I apply, and I was wondering if anyone had a solution, since it breaks my current journal design.

Not that I want to sound ungrateful: but if you're going to take time to reply, I'd prefer you to try to answer my question rather than trying to find ways of telling me why my question is wrong Sorry, I see this sort of thing all the time and it's a real pet peeve!

2. you want help but you don't explain yourself very clearly.
3. then you act incredible RUDE when someone actually tried to help you
4. why then, would ANYONE want to help now?

But I digress. I could be really snotty and not help you. But that's not me so how about you let us know what you've tried so far and where did you put it? Did you have corresponding HTML? Did you make sure you had the right spelling in your div tag and a . before your CSS?

I have never had a problem coding a footer css and btw its .journalbottom not journal-footer

pet peeve?

Hello! Random passerby here. I love using journal skins and I decided I'd like to learn CSS so I could make some of my own. I understand that it'll take time to learn it, but so far it's pretty interesting so I think it'll be fun to learn as well as rewarding. What I want to know is, generally how long does it take to learn CSS? As in, if I started two days ago, how long will it take until I can make a journal skin?
Thanks.

BaB-Jane In reply to IAmTheBlackbird [2012-05-18 07:26:03 +0000 UTC]

I don't think there's an official answer to that, it depends on the person. And also it depends on the method you use to learn. I learned very quickly, in a month I was able to create a website with all the basic stuff by reading ΓΉany tutorials, and after that, dA CSS and HTML is just more or less the same so once you know the basics, everything goes very fast.

Thank you for answering! That's what I'm learning right now, just how to build a basic website from html files and style sheets. It's a lot of fun! I can't wait until I can start doing stuff with my profile.

Depends really on how complex you're going. Learning DA's structure is simple. Then you add to it whatever you want or override its defaults. The CSS itself can be very easy or very hard. I'm still learning, I've been coding on DA for 2 years now. The basics are easy to learn though. I wrote out an explanation, if you care to read: [link]

gillianivyart In reply to miontre [2012-05-05 18:25:32 +0000 UTC]

Not on profile. But maybe you can fake it using DA's button codes/custom boxes. =somrat updated his list. Another idea, make a png image of your hr line and just have an img tag there instead.

I'm putting the center thing on all of mine. Since the empty space, which could fit a whole 'nother deviation is annoying to me.

Hello!!
I am trying to get my group to look like [link] with the image there.. Ive got the transparent journal But I don't know how not to get the title to show up. Also How would I get the images to expand with the resolution. So that it always looks the same. zoomed in or zoomed out.. I have no idea what type of code I would use or where I would put it..

Thanks for any help

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

gillianivyart In reply to Roses-to-Ashes [2012-05-03 23:48:32 +0000 UTC]

For the title, try:

.gr-top h2{display:none;}

For the image, make it an img tag

It should scale to the resolution. Be wary of wide screens making it too wide. You may want to set limits via CSS. Assign the img tag a class and set max-width and min-width variables.
