In a recent poll of Japanese school children, they would, for the most part, rather be pirates than ninjas.

You really did make me laugh out loud; I've a friend who wears a tshirt sporting the message 'Pirates are way cooler than ninjas'. Ninjas have it for me, those pirates are just far too materialistic. Many thanks for the trick. Your poetry certainly does appear effortless; a quality shared by those artists really skilled in their craft.

people think they can write from the soul, but art is like language, you have to learn the fundamentals and practice them until they are second nature, to develop the filter that translates the impulse to a communicable force.

and I am a pirate.

Oh and thank you for the watch. Actually your ears must have been burning, I was just talking to another deviant about you. They had been trying out rhyming couplets and I told them to check out your work; you work so cleverly with rhyme, not an easy thing to do it well.

williamfdevault In reply to Rainbowcadenza [2010-11-27 22:18:22 +0000 UTC]

it takes aeons to do it without looking like you are trying. Old trick I used: I wrote a series of poems using each a strict set of seven couplets, then re-arranged the lines to get a sonnet. After a while, the practice worked. Not that I don't on occasion write crap.

Just take good care of him or her (I am not very good at telling the boys from the girls with llama, their coats are too woolly and I don;t want to seem rude).

lol, I shall take care of the dear little fellow...although I'm not quite sure just how you take care of those ninjas of yours. They seem a slightly dangerous bunch!

williamfdevault In reply to Rainbowcadenza [2010-11-27 22:16:20 +0000 UTC]

offer them cookies and make sure they wash their hands before eating. Ninjas are actually notoriously incompetent. There is no historical evidence of a single successful assassination by ninjas in Japan's history.

Thank you. She will appreciate it. She also likes music. She dances to 60's and 70's rock, favourite album? David Bowie's "Hunky Dory".

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hannayoung In reply to williamfdevault [2010-11-24 17:30:18 +0000 UTC]

Yeah! She really does. She loves the 60's and 70's rock! And David Bowie is one of her biggest favorites in fact! Hunky dory is really great but she prefer the Ziggy Stardust album. But now she listening to Rolling Stones a lot. I can hear it from a long way crazy music

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

williamfdevault In reply to hannayoung [2010-11-24 17:33:29 +0000 UTC]

Ah...hopefully the early stuff. Although "Goats Head Soup" has particular beauty to it. And no arguing that Ziggy Stardust is amazing. I slightly prefer "Diamond Dogs"..but I think that's just me trying to avoid the obvious. Our llama has good taste in music.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hannayoung In reply to williamfdevault [2010-11-24 18:25:49 +0000 UTC]

Ah yeah of course! Now we talking the early stuff here! "Goats head soup" is a good one! I like the period with the "Beggars banquet" album the most But I understand you prefer "Diamond dogs" though! I really like that album too I have difficulties to just chose just one album from Bowie though! Because I think all of the early albums are great! Our llama has indeed a great taste in music! I like her! so you are a poet?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

williamfdevault In reply to hannayoung [2010-11-24 18:29:44 +0000 UTC]

My editors and publishers say I am a poet. I think they have been on drugs too long.

I haven't heard anything truly great out of Bowie since "Low" and "Station to Station" and even those were pretty inaccessible. I love "Diamond Dogs" in part because it has great songs, in part because it tells a story and in part because it was originally supposed to be a concept album based on George Orwell's "1984" but the Orwell estate didn't like the idea...I saw him put on "The 1984 Floor Show" on the Midnight Special here on American TV back in the 70's...I think it would have been amazing if he had been allowed to run with it.

Stones, yes, "Beggar's Banquet", excellent album.
