Hello, Shelldevil. I'd like to ask briefly, how are dA images and emotes viewed in terms of using them for stamps? Like the fave symbol etc... Are they free for use for such projects within the community? Thanks if you can help me on this matter, sorry if I've asked the wrong person.

For images it would depend on if it was stock or art. Art you would need to ask the owner, stock would be fine so long as the providers rules are followed. If the emote is a custom one, you would need to check with whoever created it. As far as dA official emotes I would assume that's ok for stamps, I havnt herd of anyone getting in trouble for using them before.

But I'm really sorry though for closing my stock account and moving everything to this one without you realizing. I saw that one comment where the person is whining about me not seeing the DD so it's pointless. It's not pointless. It's a stock image so it's more for other artists than myself.
I appreciate the DD and I hope it helps other artists find the image and put it to good use.

Giving money to this website does not validate anyone's intelligence. No, I don't subscribe. I just post the best of my artwork and give detailed critiques on other artwork in the aim of helping artists improve.
We've all been on this website for years. Daily Deviations used to only feature the absolute best in ability and originality.
I don't need blind faith in how long she's been a gallery mod, I can judge for myself when the DD is ill-awarded oh ye faithful.

Dear Psycho-Llama, Thank you for your meaningful comment about the quality of my stock. I do wonder though if many schools however have the funding to pay for 3d software and the time to teach it. Also whilst I am aware it is not my greatest work of art. It is useful and needed within the stock community. I aim to improve all the time and in fact I have a lot of better 3d stock available. This GM decided to showcase this stock resource because it is Deviantart's 11th Birthday.

My school had zero funding for 3d software. I volunteered a teaching course for kids using a free version of RealSoft3D advertised in a magazine, although that was in 2005ish so there are probably better freeware tools available now. I agree, there is no great wealth of free software for modelling, and the ones that are free have terrible GUIs. It does make me happy to see that there are still people such as yourselves that are modelling from scratch, though.
As a stock image, it would have helped if the objects were spaced far enough apart from each other that they could be taken separately. For example, you cannot have the cupcake without the sparkles because of the overlap. Lighting effects like the sparkle might have been more useful on a transparent surface, too, as they can only be used on a solid black background. The cake is very complex and has a lot of work put into it, but it would have been better if you could have kept a fixed ratio to the horizontal texture on the cake surface, as it stretches quite a lot and is distracting from the finished product.
It's not terrible, and it is actual art, but I wouldn't call it a DD. Most DD's in 3D artwork are complex compositions rendered with high-end computers of models they bought off a website. At first I thought that wasn't fair, which is why I quit making 3D models, but it makes a better finished product. I would encourage you to continue with your modelling and texturing work.
If you want I can email you the install of RealSoft3D version 4.2, the free version, however I don't think it works too well on Vista or 7.

I know it's not a complete piece, otherwise I would have commented on composition, background and depth. It was a dick move of me to comment on the overlap when I didn't check that the resources were in a zip. Yep, egg on my face, but I did have critique on the individual elements.

Sorry if I am sporadic on the answering of your questions.
Each one of these items is on a transparent background and I do believe its all individual items. These are in the zip. If they are not for any reason (which I must check) I can rectify this. I think the points you put forward are valid and I can fix alot of the errors. I myself want to improve it to make it more usable.

My comments on the GM's page about the quality of your artwork was harsh, and I apologise for not being more level-headed in my complaint to her. I was simply very mad at the GM picking the first deviantart-birthday-related stock without researching into the best possible example on dA. And I know that's not me, my artwork is low-tier. I'm just tired of GMs being lazy.
Your work is good, and I like the honesty of building it all from scratch, and with what your gallery shows you have the potential to make a great DD, but I don't think the picture was at that level yet, to be brutally honest.

Wow you seen something you didnt like on the interwebs OH NOES HOW WILL YOU SURVIVE! Its not an award its a feature! Yes still exciting and special But none the less a feature, Just because you dont like it DOESNT mean it shouldnt be there, Im sure there is people who dont like you work.. Thats what happens with art and creations alike. Now grow up and stop being so fucking rude! And yes... IT IS down to what the GM likes seeing as THEY are the one FEATURING it! Dont like the DD's then get off your ass and suggest some yourself!

Yeah, I raged. I was generally sick of deviantArt becoming steadily more crap. I remember a few months ago there was an outrage when a GM featured a stock image of a corn cob as a daily deviation. A corn cob. A DD used to celebrate stunning achievements of art that took months to create by some of the most talented artists on the website. It was something to aspire to.
This website has just decomposed into a photobucket of screenshots, pictures of pets, baww-journals and llama badges. And you can't get search results past 1000. It's not about the art any more, is it? It's about paying subscriptions and giving one-sentence appraisals. Yet, there are no other websites between this place and conceptart.org bigger than a handful of people.
