Ok, so ill admit... I agree with part of this. Theres a lot of shit in the gallery and a lot of smut. But that doesnt mean you should direct your anger from these things at someone who isnt a part of it. Demoncherry didnt ask to receive a DD yet you're sitting here putting her down about her artwork? Shelldevil had reason to DD it and you should repect that. Abusing these people wont get rid of the photos of pets or the screen shots...

I didn't go to demoncherry's page and yell at her for recieving the deviation, I went to shelldevil and chewed her out for choosing it. I shouldn't have put it down quite so harshly, but I got mad. And I've taught a lot of 12 year olds how to model, render and texture in 3d software. Like, two or three years worth.
Who are we supposed to complain about dA going down the tubes? No one is addressing complaints. dA has admitted to a friend of mine that they are ignoring all official complaints that are not of the nature of 'someone on this website has stolen work that I have put on this website'. Should I yell at Spyed for not taking good care of this website after he booted out Jark? Should I submit a ticket to the help desk that doesn't get addressed for 6 months, then is referred to some unhelpful part of the FAQ?
I wanted to tell shelldevil that I thought she was not presenting DD's to top tier art. I don't think that demoncherry's stuff is rubbish, I just don't think it is worthy of a DD. By the time I calm down about these complaints, I begin to ask myself why I bother, because nothing can slow this website from driving into the website graveyard beside MySpace and Bebo.

Fact of the matter is, you're flaming someones HARD efforts, she created this from scratch. She didnt use other stock images/textures/resources to create it, she made everything herself. which in that fact alone should be awarded for the time and effort she put into it. The other fact is, theres not much birthday stuff kicking around in the 3D gallery so she is one of the very few people that made the effort to create something for others to use as there are limited resources for it. Just because it doesnt have the "wow" factor you think it needs doesnt mean that time and effort to create something that others dont find perfect is no reason to put the artist down nor the person that gave them the award in the first place. That would be like me telling you that because your artwork isnt as good as the other fantasy artists out there you should give up trying to better your skills. Do you even know the effort that goes into rendering 3D work? I sure as hell couldnt be arsed with it! way too much for me to handle lol You cant go giving DDs to the same old same old people all the time. I have searched the resource gallery and regularly suggest DDs and its actually difficult to find new artists to suggest. If you keep giving the same handful of artists DDs THAT would take away the importance of them. Its not necessarily to award GREATNESS in art, its to acknowledge and encourage people as well

I think I answered in someone else's comment that I've actually modelled in 3D from scratch, and it is hard in the beginning. And I was only in 'the beginning' of doing 3D as well. And with enough experience, practice and talent, you produce something with a 'wow' factor. Or you buy an expensive render machine, expensive software, expensive models and you start doing virtual photography with 3D models and produce great quality, if unoriginal results. That's why I left the 3D game. Making models is not yet redundant, but it seems to be heading that way. Such is computing systems, always getting more complicated. It could be argued that we should all start from the machine code and work our way up.
I know it's difficult to research good artists, especially with the search bar cut to 1000. Whoever made the decision to cap the search bar did so at the detriment of the purpose of this website. And hard work? Hard work is what needs to happen. It shouldn't be a cakewalk (please excuse the pun). Hard work would be finding someone new, who hasn't been featured, who is worthy of being shown as the best of the best.
I've seen a bunch of artists with few friends but amazing talents. I should have recommended them for DD's, but it never crossed my mind to do so. That was years back when I was a regular to this site. Coming back to it is like finding a highschool friend turned druggie. You feel some sort of responsibility to them, but there is nothing you can do to save them from themselves.

I understand that what different people find 'impressive' is never the same, however you fall right off the shallow end of the bell curve to find that an impressive representation of what the entire history of deviantArt.
How about searching through the archives for a decent picture? Research? Spotting great artists? Combing the galleries? Higher administrative positions means higher levels of responsibility. This isn't hard.

I'm not saying that my art does make anyone cream their pants, but I have modelled my 3D artwork from absolute scratch. It's in my gallery. Seriously, if you saw my gallery, it's in there. RealSoft3D is an old package, but it let you put the lighting where you wanted, gave you some pre-sets and a few default textures. I've used my own textures, too, but all the models are 100% mine.
I don't have to be Da Vinci to call a deviation out on being sub-par. Top of the line 3D artwork is all about compilation these days, with few people making very detailed models distributed to many. It's become virtual photography. I tried my hand at 3D, but prefer digital painting.
