Depending on what you want I may be able to help. I find some parts of your project a little risky to join which is normal in small projects. It's just best to make sure a project will survive before to much effort is put in.

This is what I know so far: There is a very small group of people interested (little is expected for prerelease but it's still quite low). Depending on what you mean by the game engine you could be quite the strong programmer. I hear you have taken over the work the work of a team you have lost contact with. This could be fine as the demo looks to bo mechanically functional but I would like to know if there leaveing could have ownership issues.

P.S. I'm not sure if this is part of Project RCL but in case this is the heteml Wordpress site has a very professional look with some optimization and the splash screen art will likely be seen as off putting.

Okay Yeh the small Group of people are from the RCL community. I actually recently decided to pick up the project because they were assumed dead. However They are back, but there are 2 things, 1 is that Megaman as a Franchise isnt their Franchise meaning there is no illegal stuff happening. 2. The Main Reason why i decided to continue with the project after their "Revival" Is because their Story is Horrendous (which is why i enjoyed the megaman games) he uses the Manga Timeline where as i use the Game Timeline.  Secondly i actually want to make my own custom Sprites for this work, At the end of the Project it probably Will not be called Rockman Ciel These sprites are merely Placeholders since i dont have anything else as of right now. I would like to release a Demo Beta for the first Level and free roam for the game to show players what its going to be like to Continue playing, I have Fully Original boss Ideas and concepts Ready to be made into sprites. 

Anything else please let me know ... I do gotta say the Project RCL has good art however their Programming skills might be poor since its taking almost 2 years to make a basic engine. If you are interested please let me know if not please let me know thank you !

Providing my statements under this are true I would be able to help with this but I'm not willing to go full out. Nothing personal, just that it's more risky working with programers who have less finished products (or other examples) under there belt. If not being able to direct enough attention to this is a concern feel free to find other artists more invested in this and I will understand.

-You are not useing any of the resources that the previous team had made so there is nothing for them to claim rights to.
-Your development environment/program doesn't place any severe limits to this project. (probably best for you to let me know what you are using so I can research how my sprites need to be presented)
-You have basic crediting of my artist name.
-The game is publicly available to consumers.
-Everything else is covered by basic law that I can think of.

Regardless of if I join you may want to consider making this your own franchise, If you are having everything made like bosses and art not taken from Megaman/Rockman it could be a thought.

Okay not sure if you got my past Response, but if you want to start doing a sample Sprite i have some Concept art , do you need a front/Back view of it??? Or are you able to work with the front view??  overall just let me know thank you

I got your last message but I didn't have time to check my inbox yesterday and realty don't have much time right now with it being 1 AM.

I had checked out all the provided samples when you first contacted me. They showed you where competent in using your programing software but I was referring more to published applications as a good source of knowing something can be made from start to finish.

I'm somewhat knowledgeable of Gamemaker (although I have a distaste for it's limitations and lack of manual coding support) and I can make my art assets suitable for the program. Since you list things like HTML and Android support you probably know you need a payed Gamemaker developer licene for those but unlike before you now get Mac/PC export for free.

Getting to this comment: Sure I'm ready to start this. Not knowing anything about this sprite I do not know what views are needed for me to have but normally more is better unless they don't add anymore information on the subject. I can also do more then just pixel art but that appears to be a common style in your earlier works.

Sorry if it feels like i am rushing you. I Do not mean to be needy. Also I am well aware about GM's Licence for Android and HTML5 Support. Game maker may be limited to some people but however a full game can be made off of it. It all depends on how well you utilize it. If i show you a picture with my code, you will see that i try to be thorough and the engine is literally Built and running on itself. Anyways with that aside...

And that last link is a comparison of how big i would like my boss VS the Characther's Height. The current dimension of the Picture emulates how my viewport is but to be detailed as possible

My viewport dimension is -240W x 160H 

as for the character dimensions 36Wx43H

for the Boss id say roughly around 70 x 105H At the very most...

This looks like something I could do. All I need to know is if any formatting is needed (E.G. a transparency colour or boxed sprites), if you have any colours you want this and how you want this to be animated (likely a flat side view, movement and two attacks where one has a raised arm delay for to use the "claw space to doge under").

uhmm no there is no transparency to this boss, everything can be easily worked around by code. However, its not going to be a Flat side view if its to much for you to do thena  flat side view is fine, i was thinking more of a Sideview and showing some of the front.

The attack pattern is like this... It will be completely Random

Random 1

1.Raise Shovel Extend to Wall and scoop along side the wall, afterwards the Shovel will slowly go back to the body and rubble will Travel with it.

2.The Claw Will then take pieces of rocks and throw it at the character,  with the claw.

Random Event 2.

The claw will extend Foward and try to grab the char. If the Char. Does not dodge in time than he will be trapped and it will initiate a grab sequence

Random Event 3.

Dash to the other side of the map.

other concepts. 

The claw will smash to the ground and Cause a shockwave of rubble to the char. 


There Should be delays for the alternating Attacks.. Like you said 1 arm will raise, if its the shovel then he will raise his arms

if its the Claw then he will raise his claw, if he is Dashing to the other side, he will have his arms tucked in to his side and shake, the Pipes on his back will shoot out some flames to tell the player to dodge.

By my formatting example of colour transparency I was on about around the sprites and not a part of the sprites themselves since programs can be very picky. Some programs/engines/frameworks need a specific colour (normally magenta) to know what to show, some need (or at least work better) with each frame in a max size box and I have even had the displeasure of needing sprites limited in power of two resolutions.

A Three quarter view (like your first example www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbi… is fine by me.

Do you have any colour palette in mind or should I just go by eye?

That's all I could think of that I need to question but if there is anything else I will try to incorporate it.

Okay No problem, The 3 Quarters View is a Little bit weird, but if u feel its easier to do i wont limit you , for the color pallete just make it look like a machine, maybe Metalic Silver and some Areas Grey I really appreciate your help thank you!

I asked how this should be animated  suggesting it was "likely a flat side view"

So I interpreted it as "A Three quarter view (like your first example link )"

I will sketch some very quick examples in case it's a terminology misunderstanding but I by the sounds of it you want a three quarter view.

There is somewhat of a change in my schedule. I have gotten close to an important deadline (on the 12th of June) and so it's not too likely that I will have much (if any) time to work on this project however after that I should be very flexible time wise. This is not the best first impression of my workflow but this will hopefully be a positive in the long term.

I did find the time to make a reference for the sprites www.pgu.me/public/YL7 that demonstrates the 3/4 view style common to most Mega Man games and a colour palette. If I do get the time I have enough information to continue spriting the boss.

I think you where replying to yourself but I found your message. I have made it passed my deadline and now have time I can spare to help with this project.

I have the idle frame done i.pgu.me/iaAkZcuz_original.png (It may take saving the image to view it as an sharp PNG file) and I'm working on a three frame dash loop for the "Random Event 3".
As for "Random 1" You probably already know with the boss extending it's arm across the screen it would be very impractical to use wide sprites to have frames for each arm length so I assume it will be done as: animate arm rising, have the JCB scoop shaped hand and boss body as separate sprites with the red arm joint as a texture to duplicate, then reverse the extending movement with a scoop hand sprite holding rumble. With the flinging rocks movement I'm just curious how it should move with robot arms.

That actually doesnt look bad it looks really good so far, at the end when you finish adding details to it it'll look amazing also do what you feel is necessary to make the sprite look fluent when attacking, you do have the right ideas in your mind which is good, thank you again ^_^

As you sound a little optimistic for this boss to have it's current design improve ("when [I] finish adding details") with me adding new frames of animation don't expect much although it is to some degree true.

As an update to my other reply I have made one of the arms transition to extending the arm. (6 frames) I tried to make it look like the boss was pulling back to take a swing but it can be reordered to a plain punching motion if needed. i.pgu.me/+SJ-528n_original.png Each frame should only need about 50 delta time updates (about 10 frames a second)

Also if it is a hassle for you to do this through Deviantart as it appears you only go hear for this (althiough it could also be a positive) I wouldn't mind continueing this elsewhere. (depending on where of course)

It's taken a little longer than I thought but I should have at least one of the extending arm movements done by tomorrow (the ruble scooping one) and possibly both if I have time.

I will be sure to check out the demo on my Android Virtual Device and possibly get some insight in what I will be doing next.

Something you may want to consider is reusing one of my recent enemy designs i.pgu.me/2r+ewFKy_original.gif as I could use it as a base to make a pixel art version quite quickly and minimal AI is needed.

Hello there And sorry if it feels like i am rushing or asking alot out of you. I am well Aware of about the GM Licence and the Supports on each console. GM has alot to offer and is a very powerful tool, it all depends on how well you utilize it. On top of that i do not know what you mean by lack of Manual Coding Support since it has tons, if i showed you the amount of code i put into it without drag and drop you will see that my whole engine Runs Basically off of what i type. 

With that aside and moving onto the sprite.

i've also worked on many RPGs...but as you can tell i am a huge megaman FanBoy, ive done various Works from Sonic Games, to Arcade shooters, Etc.

I will let you know that i am not going to act like a "Boss" but rather a friend. I'd like for things to be done but i will not force you, Whenever you have time is when you should do it, i dont want your Daily life to be affected at all. I would love to make this my own Franchise, as a matter of fact its already begun, i will have completely original Soundtracks, artwork, Designs, Story, and even gameplay. Every Peice of work that you do will be credited to you no doubt.  And in the future if you have a game you would like done let me know. I am also right now Working with Gamemaker Engine.
