Well, what's the life culture like over there? Things like the education system, how public transportation works, things going on with the government/politics, etc.

Sorry if it sounds like too much of an "out-there" question, but I like learning things about other countries. c:

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Flutterby3000 In reply to Zuon [2014-09-21 10:39:04 +0000 UTC]

uh... god ok... public transport is relatively crap, I guess.... education system is the dumbest system I've ever seen.... government/politics are... stupid and confusing.... well, ok... to elaborate.... this country is run by idiots.... but it still has potential... the only problem is, that it is also largely populated by idiots, who support the idiot government.... but I don't know much about this.... on the plus side though, we have beautiful sunsets and wildlife.... this is Africa after all....

our culture is very diverse I guess, but if we were to focus on the Zulu kind of cultures they can be incredibly intriguing, and beautiful.... at the same time though, they can also be.... primitive in some ways..... primarily with regards to beliefs about things like rhino horns (which are literally just nails in a horn shape...) curing disease and stuff.... so, though they have some beautiful customs, some of their other customs can be limiting and primitive.... it's all very confusing in a way....  uh.... I hope I said the right things lolz.... I'm not very good at this haha

Zuon In reply to Flutterby3000 [2014-09-21 14:42:21 +0000 UTC]

Haha, sounds exactly like the US government and population. There are a lot of ill-informed liberals of this country who blindly follow President Obama just because he's the first half-black president, and because he has a "cool" personality. The truth is, he thinks he's above the law, and whenever congress tells him he can't pass one of his laws, he signs an executive order and passes it anyway, which is illegal, but he gets away with it. He is also way too hesitant to act when it comes to more serious matters. Most of his supporters in this country don't even know who the Vice President is, that's how ill-informed they are.

Also, I take it you don't exactly like living where you are too much. What sort of wildlife do you have over there, and what are your favorites?

And may I ask what makes your education system so dumb to you?

You're doing fine. XD Also, if you ever want to change topics at any time, let me know. I just like learning, as I've said before.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Flutterby3000 In reply to Zuon [2014-09-21 21:16:55 +0000 UTC]

haha well, I like living here to an extent... I think this country could be much better.... but I also want to travel .... this country can be quite depressing sometimes... the news is always, "this person was gang raped and murdered" or "this person murdered five people with an axe" or "there was a five car pile up on the N2" .... there is so much death and stuff... I know it's not the worst place to live, but it could be so much better....

Um... wildlife???? haha well, you have our big five: Lions, Elephants (African not Indian lolz), Leopards, Rhino's and Buffalo (I think...) we also have Cheetah's. Giraffes, Snakes, Birds and lots of different buck....
haha, my favs would probably be the cheetah's.... the Rhino's and the Elephants what wildlife do you have there??? and which are your favs???

Well, I was doing Cambridge science, before I switched to the Government syllabus.... it was good.... I change to the government syllabus and its just completely.... stupid!!! I swear, there is no other explanation.... I know I may not be right, but the science is all over the place, nothing is explained properly, on the first page of SS (social Science... pretty much geography and history mixed together...) there is a satellite  image of Earth, centred on Africa.... so they ask us what the satellite image shows.... I'm assuming they were talking about the continent... if they were talking about the planet it would probably have been worse.... on the other hand I could just have misinterpreted the question... my dad says I think too much... analyse the question too much....

I think, though America has problems (and I don't know much about America so sorry if I get anything wrong...) you guys are a first world country, right??? I mean, we're third world as far as I know.... I think.... Obama may not be the best president, but I will bet on my life that he has ten times the amount of intelligence of our president....

Well, here's an example of the news I watch. XD It's one of the only stations that isn't told what to say by the government. These clips are not from one of the News segments of the channel, but from a talk show. I'm showing you Greg Gutfeld's parts because I think he's hilarious. First one is lighthearted, second one is about a serious topic.

www.foxnews.com/on-air/the-fiv…
www.foxnews.com/on-air/the-fiv…

I can't speak for other parts of the United States, but in my state (Arizona,) we have eagles and other birds, javelinas (a form of pig - don't think I spelled it correctly,) deer, bears, rattlesnakes, coyotes, scorpions, and I'm sure we have other animals, but those are all I can remember. But I live in the suburbs, and there isn't any wilderness for miles and miles, so I'm not exposed to actually seeing the wildlife unless I go to a zoo. I like the deer/elk and bald eagles the most. c:

Ah, yeah, I can see that. I like being taught science over here because it's all very concrete and makes sense to me. Not knowing what your own country looks like on a map, and having a college-level question asking about it sounds awfully scary to me. There's no such thing as thinking about the question too much. If you think about it more than other people, that means you're more intelligent, and you don't just blindly follow what others tell you. If no one asked questions, we would still think the world was flat, and a majority of people wouldn't know what gravity is.

Yeah, we're a first-world country. And yeah, our government is very smart, but they always make the wrong decisions and never own up to it - they always blame something else. The second video I linked you to - it's a response about an attack that happened on Americans stationed overseas. Many Americans lost their lives. They knew it was coming ahead of time, and they contacted the US homeland asking to send reinforcements for protection, and Obama and our government decided to do nothing. After news of the attack broke out, Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton, blamed the attack as a reaction of a "racist, anti-mulsim" youtube video, and the rest of the Democratic government went with it. They kept this excuse up for months, and after the US population finally saw through it, Hilary came out and said, "The attack was two months ago. What does it matter at this point?" The government doesn't even care about the people who died.

Also, out of curiosity, how are movie and video game ratings determined over there, and how strict is the censorship?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Flutterby3000 In reply to Zuon [2014-09-22 00:12:42 +0000 UTC]

wow.... that is so cool!!! we have lots of nature reserves and zoos... the zoos have animals from all over the world, but our game reserves are mostly for preservation purposes, I guess... keeping the wildlife alive and all.... we have cities here, but none as big as yours, and you can get out of them relatively quickly... the big ones might take an hour or two and then you're surrounded by flat land with dry brown grass and stuff... maybe even a few cows or sheep or something lolz.... the smaller ones, can have anything from mountains to flat grass covered expanses that go on for ages!!! and of course we have the sea as well xD

Eagles are awesome!!!

Haha yeah, my dad is a high school maths and science teacher, but I have dyscalculia so maths is out of the question... but I like science, theory especially... the fact that they can make it appear so... stupid and senseless is sad.... but I really don't have much choice.... and that is true, though technically it took a long time to get people out of those beliefs... haha have you ever read Terry Pratchet??? The Science of Discworld was interesting....

Huh... I think America probably has the whole world believing that it is the country, and in some... or even most ways it is.... I suppose the only problem is that they have grown used to that image and have started hiding behind it.... they have power I guess... probably the most power in the world, and they can use that to their advantage... the only problem is that they can use that power in good ways or bad ways....

movie and video game ratings??? like.. PG 13 stuff??? censorship is... I guess relatively strict I guess.... I mean, I don't have much to compare to, so I can't really tell you anything definite sorry...

Zuon In reply to Flutterby3000 [2014-09-22 20:49:48 +0000 UTC]

Haha, we don't have any bodies of water in our state, except for a man-made lake. I'd have to travel to other parts of the country to get to a beach.

Why don't you have the choice? :C And no, I haven't, but there's a video game I want to try that's called, "Discworld."

Yeah, we do have a lot of power, but the president is too much of a wuss to use it. He spent the longest time trying to stay out of the conflict between the terrorists/ISIS and the Iraqi government, and now that he finally gave into the pressure, all he's doing is sending air strikes. He doesn't want to put ground troops out there. Honestly, I believe countries should be able to govern themselves, but the Iraqi government ASKED the US for help, and Obama spent years just twiddling his thumbs and doing nothing. Same thing with the conflict between Israel and Russia. Russia's President Putin even thinks Obama's a baby. Sorry for going on about him so much. XD

And yup, stuff like that! Over here, movies are rated based on how adult the content in it is, but no movie has been banned to my knowledge. The only thing is movies with an X rating are not allowed to be sold in stores or played in theaters (they're available online but they're mostly pornos), but R rated movies are still allowed. G is mainly for children, PG can be a bit more adult and more realistic with higher stakes, but it's still targeted at kids. PG-13 is where movies can be more serious, death can be shown in more ways, and shit starts to get real - this is for teenagers and older, younger kids must have parental supervision. R rated is adults only and you are required to show your ID to purchase or view the movie, younger teens can get in though, with parental supervision.

It's a similar thing with video games. Here's their website so I don't have to re-explain it. ^^:
www.esrb.org/ratings/ratings_g…

AO games are the equivalent to X rated movies, where they are not allowed to be sold in stores. E is basically like G rated movies, E10+ is PG, T is PG-13, and M is like R rated movies. The only game ever banned in America is "The Guy Game," a quiz show with videos OF a quiz show being filmed at a beach. Girls at this beach quiz show were answering random trivia questions, and if they got one wrong, they lost the game, and were required to flash their breasts before walking off camera. At the beginning of the game, there is a huge censor bar over the girls' chests. Your job in this game is to answer the questions yourself, and guess whether or not the girl would get them right. The more questions you answer correctly, the smaller the censor bar gets, until you can watch the girls flash you completely uncensored. The reason this game was banned was because one of the girls on the show was 17 at the time of recording, and because the legal adult age in America is 18, this was seen as child porn, and thus made illegal. And rightfully so - that game is just distasteful, degrading to both men and women, and embarrassing to play, even if some of the questions themselves are kinda fun to think about.

So knowing what ratings are like over here, what are they like over there?

Flutterby3000 In reply to Zuon [2014-09-22 21:48:45 +0000 UTC]

OMG!!!!! beaches are incredible!!!! haha but then again, our country is, like, half the size of yours lolz

And I don't really have a choice, cus I have to do school, and we have the books now, so there's no going back.... it sucks, but hopefully i'll stay sane and get through it lolz haha Terry Pratchet is awesome, Discworld is about a flat world, carried through the sky on the back of a giant turtle.... it's absolutely hilarious xD

And don't worry, it's cool ours is probably a bigger baby tho lolz.... stupider too xD

Aaaaaahhhhh ok haha we have A (All, anyone can watch), PG (Parental guidance, in cinemas kids need to be accompanied by an adult, pretty much), then you have PG13 (which is, if you're thirteen or older you can watch without guidance, but if you're younger than thirteen then you must be accompanied by an adult... ) then we have 16, and 18, which are exactly the same as the last one.... and then you get the reasons for the rating, so you can have a 16LSN (language, Sex and nudity) or an 18LV (Language and violence), I'm not entirely sure, but I think we have L (Language) V (Violence) N (Nudity) S (Sex) and then there are some for, like, drug content and stuff, but I can't remember those  These ratings only really apply to cinemas though, where people are actually checking... and even then, it's probably very easy to slip past haha I'm not too clued on games lolz, but I assume the ratings are relatively similar.... and that game sounds.... weird..... lolz

I've actually heard about that book before! I think I may have even read it in elementary school, but I don't remember it.

Haha, what does yours do, do you know?

That's interesting but still very similar to ours, surprisingly. c: For us, we don't  have the rating reasons in the rating name itself, but there's usually a white box that lists it out.

And why don't you have an interest in video games, if I may ask? Like, could you even find any enjoyment out of one if it was pure fun without any boring gimmicks?

It's okay, I have trouble with large numbers too. XD

I recommend you play some other genres of games to broaden your selection. Some of my favorites (both new and old) are LOTR: War In The North, Super Mario World, Sonic Generations, The Witcher, Planescape Torment, Rayman, Burnout, Flatout 2, Serious Sam: The Second Encounter (original or HD), any of the Lego games, Beyond Good and Evil, and Zelda.

I know that's a long list, but I wanted to give you plenty of options. c:

Well, now she's switching from country to pop, and is starting to wear more flashy clothing, so I think she's finally starting to make the transition into the "generic celebrity club" sadly. :C
