Well we usually decorate our home with red, and the married elders will give the youngsters red packets called Hong Baos (or angpows in dialect). Chinese New Year lasts 15 days, and during this period (Chinese) people visit the homes of families and friends, and of course, if you visualize everything like a mini-party, you've got the essence of it. Oh and dragon dances are pretty common during CNY, as a mark of fortune.

What are the red packets (angpows) for? And why 15 days? It all sounds like fun! Definitely more interesting than New Years in America In America everyone stays up until midnight December 31st and (depending where you are) we watch the tower with a giant ball drop. Lol, it actually kind of sounds lame. The ball drop represents the new year and usually everyone counts down at 11:59 til Midnight comes. And then people either party or mingle or just go to sleep. See? Boring. China is more fun I think
