I mostly just use Adobe Photoshop CS2 for....pretty much everything. I use to draw then finish on CS2, but now pretty much everything from the conception to end product is all from Photoshop (:

I've never really tried anything in PSP. We used CS2 in a graphic design school years ago when I was in high school, and I just got use to the layout...so I've never bothered with anything else. x)
It took me a LONG time to figure out a method of digital shading, etc. that looked remotely good. It's really difficult. I guess the best thing to do is to play around with different modes and techniques until you are satisfied...it took me about a year to even get the courage to try, so you're a couple steps ahead of me. :]
