I admit that I stumbled across your work while searching for a 3D modeler who had handled either black folk and/or fat women in the past. It made me grin to know that at least one existed, and a good one. ...of course, even your name kinda' lets me know that there'd be no issues with 'white washing', were I to ask you to take on commission work.

To explain more fully: I've been shopping around to find a 3D modeler to whom I could entrust my Pathfinder barbarian character, 'Eos' (Original sketch: [link] ; 2D commission: [link] ).

Mind you, I'm not *exactly* sure just yet what services/files I would need. My initial guess would be a 3D file and a texture map that I could send to a 3D printing service like 'Shapeways'...I'm still researching it out. I've never done something like this before and my understanding of the necessary process is still very muddy to me.

*However*, the end goal is to hold in my hand a full-color tabletop miniature that I could use when I go role-playing with Eos.

If ever I make heads or tails of what is needed, would you be interested in taking on her 3D commission?

On the real I am very honored that you would even consider me to create your character and would be more then willing to give it a try but I'm not sure that I can give you the results your looking for.
I pretty much only have one style of character creation and what you seen is basically it. Usually when someone requests an avatar I'm asked to use that persons characteristics or sent a mugshot of who they want the model to resemble but if your not so much worried about her face then I can come up with something but pretty easily.
Looking at your concept art (I really love it btw) I don't see any problem other then the fur and the hair. I've never had any dealings with 3Dprints so I don't know what the best way for me to get the detail of the fur to show so I might have to sculpt it into the mesh if thats alright with you.
I know this is mad long but the main thing I'm tryin to make sure of is (1)if its okay to sculpt the fur and hair (2)facial-wise did you want something more cartoon like or for me to model after someone and (3) if my style is okay with what your going for and when would you need it by.
Hope I am able to help you with your character and even if not I really REALLY appreciate your proposal and comment. I hope to hear back from you

Lol, thanks! I've always kinda' liked the pirate attitude!

1.) I'm not entirely sure what you mean by sculpting the fur and hair in, but then I have no idea what 3D modeling entails. I'll trust your judgement: if it needs to be done to give Eos the correct look, I'm game!

2.) I'll have photos I can give you of what Eos' face should look like, but I won't be a stickler about you getting it completely exact. 'Tis a fantasy, after all.

3.) I'm also not sure what you mean by your style being a potential problem. If you mean that you're not used to doing the body shape that Eos has, then I understand that, and I could perhaps just look you up in the future when it's time for me to commission one of the more traditionally-shaped Pathfinder characters that I have (my half-orc ranger 'Grellga', for example).

I meant to go back and look at your gallery to try and figure it out, but DA has been acting a right fool with me this week... can't get a good connection to a lot of the pages here...if you want you can elaborate, or I'll just try looking at your gallery again on Monday.

I'm sorry, I never do a very good job when it comes to explaining this type of thing.

1.) When I say sculpting the fur it would come out more like this[link] rather then attaching individual hairs onto it like this[link] . When it comes to 3D prints I don't have a lot of knoledge but I don't think its able to pick up all the fur detail anyway so I will have to do some research on that subject.

2.) I'm happy your so flexible about everything but I will do my best to get the 3D model to match the photo. If it is a actual persons photo then if at all possible a front and a side profile shot would yield the best results[link] .

3.) What I mean by style is that I try to shoot more towards realism rather then something that is more cartoony, anime, or stylized. something stylized would be like The Incredibles or Tangled(what they do in most 3d movies). Anime style looks pretty much like a anime just 3d[link] and cartoon style is what most 3d cartoons are now days[link] . This is all opinionated so don't quote me on none of this lol. But no not at all, its actual refreshing to do something more realistic like the body type your asking for. All deviantart is is people doing the same bodies over and over, that and I guess My lil Ponys, so its not a problem at all.

I'm far from a professional when it comes to quality but I do put my all into the work that I do especially if its for someone else so I guess thats my little disclaimer. Just let me know what you decide you want to do and a date you need it by and I will jump on that as soon as I can.

No sweat. Everyone's got a different style of communication. So long as we keep talking it out, we'll succeed.


1.) I don't mind that at all! o_O; In fact, I would *prefer* it. I imagine that trying to move around a miniature that has hundreds of tiny individual little coily hairs would lead to sadness and woe...because eventually, it would all break off!

No seriously. Scuplt plz, thx.


2.) Sounds perfectly reasonable. I'll try and make sure you have good clear pics to work with...well, as good as can be taken by camera phone.


3.) SO glad you're comfortable with the body type. Quite a few would not be.

And I would actually prefer a realistic style. It would probably look all the more badass.


It may take me a two or three more weeks to figure out what a 3D printing company would need, and the exact procedure, but it looks like this will work. When you get a chance to think about it, please Note me as far as how much you would charge for a 3D file and a 3D texture to go with it (an estimate). That way I can save up for your commission while I'm researching.
