Hey, thanks for the link - it's pretty interesting, I'd not heard of any of them ! There are soooo many different obscure microcars in the world, always finding new ones haha

Hey,
Sorry for the late reply... I sure do have plenty of drawings upcoming, and a large amount of cars (no guarantees how many or what will be done next year). I don't tend do do any drawing when I'm at home for the summer as there is so much else to do, hence why I'm not on deviantart much lately - but in beginning of september I'll be back at university and I'm sure there'llm be plenty of drawings coming... one of the first series I want to do is about 20 lamborghini concept cars, and strongly related cars. I also have another plan to draw, another time, about 25 old american classics and concepts from the 50s and 60s. Besides that, it's just a bunch of random ideas, and surely other ideas will come between things, or I might decide to leave something for another time...
Here at home I've been busy with real cars, and making a big model of a nice old one; here's the latest update (though it's currently even further) - [link]
I just looked at your history of drawings deviation - that's a cool idea, and you can really see the progression over time. I may try to do something like that myself, one day

No problem man, I'm here on DA til hell freezes^^
Anyways, interesting plans.
Definitly looking forward to see some appearing on here man
Your Messerschmidt looks good too, looks complicated aswell! So...I wish ya good luck with it man, makes me wanna go upstairs some day again to take out the boxes of Lego Technic^^
Glad ya liked the summary, and that was also my intention: Show what the progression has been, with the most important drawings with short pieces of text in it

Hi Twisted Dan. I ordered up your Rovin D4 print. It is cool and as a Rovin D4 owner I couldn't resist ordering the print. I was surprised the final product crops a bit off the bottom of the print including your signature and part of the car tire. Apparently that is the way you set it up on the Deviant site but it would have been nicer to have the full frame reproduced. Cheers & thanks for offering up the print.

Hello,
Well thank *you* for ordering
I'm sorry the print got cropped - I'm not aware of having set anything up specifically, I just go with the default settings from the website. Truth be told I didn't expect anybody to actually buy a print, so thanks again !
They are nice little cars, aren't they? Do you have any other old microcars, and are you familiar with the various clubs and communities for them? They're actually quite big in america. There are many active clubs for them here in europe too, of course. My dad restores microcars, and has a few of his own, and I myself have a Messerschmitt.

The Rat Fink drawing seems to be one of the most popular things I've done on here, yet I insist on claiming no credit - after all, I only decided to re-draw for myself an poriginal drawing by Ed Roth himself

Do you plan to upload pics of your Lego cars?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
TwistedMethodDan In reply to BatmanWithBunnyEars [2011-05-01 08:03:18 +0000 UTC]
Well... I could do. I've just refrained from it so far for a few reasons...
First, I'm not sure if Deviantart is the best site for that... though to me, anything that you can make and express creativity through is a form of art, lego to me is just a material to use, say, equivalent to sculpture in a way - though other might just call it a toy and not really suitable for the site.
Also, for 3D models it's nice to have photos of lots of different angles, and in some cases, of the work in progress too. I don't want to spam up the site by uploading say 20 pages for one deviation; it makes my gallery messy if nothing else really... though of course I could just upload the best photo, and pt a link towards the third reason...
Which is MOCpages. In a way, sort of like deviantart for lego. People post all their lego creations, join groups, comment and rate each others' models etc... you can have as many photos as necessary for each creation you upload all on one page, which is handy.
So I tend to put all my drawings, paintings and non-lego model-work on here; and all the lego stuff on MOCpages. There are a few cars, though I also like building spaceships and other things too. If you're interested, you can find them here - [link]

Funny you should say that, because check out what got a DD today:
SS Lego
Also check out this earlier DD:
Clock1
And a couple other excellent pieces:
A LEGO optical illusion
Lego Truck
A couple of these are digital renderings drawings of Legos, but they still illustrate the respect that Legos command on this site.

Oh yeah they are pretty cool
Well, maybe one day I'll put my models on here, maybe over the summer to make up for my lack of drawings.
To avoid spamming the site, and my galleries, with twenty photos of each model I guess I'll just use my favourite for each, and then put a link to the page on the other site with all the other photos in the description.
There should be more coming over the summer, too

You could also make a separate folders for each one, and maybe upload all the extra pics to scraps, which wouldn't notify your watchers.

Your work is truly impressive, I especially like the automotive pieces. Where do you get the references for all those crazy cars?

TwistedMethodDan In reply to donwold [2011-04-17 09:32:26 +0000 UTC]
Thank you very much
everything I said was sincerely meant, and it means a lot to me you saying my work is impressive, considering how much more skilled you are. Some of my cars I really like how they turned out, but most just seem average to me... I do only spend around 3 hours on most of them, in part due to the large volume of things I plan to get onto paper.
Where do I get the references for the crazy cars? I suppose by that you mean the funny little microcars? Generally I'll look up on the internet until I see a photo I like; nice angle, clear picture to see the details, colour that suits it, etc... though with many of the microcars I just needed to look at photos from back home... m dad restores Messerschmitts, and occasionally other microcars, and has a few microcars of his own. I have one myself, too now, though haven't had much of a chance to drive it much yet...

I certainly don't consider myself more skilled than you, I am too chicken to even try color and you do a great job with it. As for the microcars, where I live, I have never seen an actual example of one.

TwistedMethodDan In reply to donwold [2011-04-17 18:51:05 +0000 UTC]
Well, thank you very much
I still think you're being too modest though... how about your Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa? That one was coloured, and all the comments agree - it's a marvelous piece of work. I'm sure you could make other works equally impressive, if not more.
I guess maybe we just work differently - sure, I colour all my drawings now; but since I have a long list of things to draw, I rarely spend a great deal of time on any one drawing - it's obvious that though a lot of your work is pencil-only, you put a lot more time and effort into that. I've only done one drawing in that style; the one shown as the main deviation in the left column on my profile page... I've been too chicken to go over that in pen and colour... though it will get done one day.
Microcars are more common in europe; especially UK, germany and holland. I guess not everybody is born the son of a microcar mechanic... there aren't exactly that many around. The little cars have quite a following in america though, so there must be people around Canada too.

There are some very amazing works done digitally out there... I don't do them myself as I can't get my head around the software. I find it much easier to just use a pencil and paper, you've got so much more control over what you do. That and I've been drawing all my life haha...
I should get round to some more Star Wars drawings soon... I may get some more done over the next 2-3 weeks hopefully

You're most welcome
I find pencil and paper is way more fun.
Between my poor mouse control and the headaches I get from staring at the screen trying to get a digital colouring "just right", I really can't stand doing it the new-fangled way.
I'm so with you on better control and drawing all the life

Hey there, thanks for the comment on the Morgan. I wanted to say that I get my paper from Rymans - its the A3 ''Artist Pad'' 200gsm ( if you were wondering ). Again to get the smoothness I use loads of tissue paper or napkins work well too.
For my pencils I use a mixture of Berol Verithin and Faber Castells - so hope that helped you abit. I'm well pleased that you like the Morgan and thanks for having a look at it

Hey,
Thanks for the info - I'll keep that in mind. I don't use the best quality stuff really so that's probably half of it - I have noticed how some pencils just end up looking better than others. Mostly I'm just using up what I already own - it's taken about 8 years for me to finally get the message politely into friends and family that I really don't need any more drawing equipment for christmas

Thanks a lot
Though no modesty here when I say your stuff is way better - you're only a little older than me so I don't think it's down to experience.
It's probably patience and how much effort you put into your work... I used to sometimes literally just rush through them to get a whole load done (erm... not too different to what I'm doing now...) then one day, around end 2006/beginning 2007 I thought 'This is stupid... I can do better than that'. So I did. More time spent and, more importantly, more effort, as well as things like realising colouring pencils were way better than felt tips, and I can see a big change in how my stuff got better from then onwards.
Now, and for a wile even, I feel that though a few small things have changed - a little better shading, better floor shadows etc - I don't feel as if I've gotten any better for a year or two at least. And doing all these TVRs at the moment - sometimes even 2 a day - I've noticed that I'm doing them much quicker. I used to be happy if I could get only one done a day.
It's great to be able to churn them out so quick - I guess I must only spend about 3 hours on each now, maybe 4... so maybe not much will happen... but maybe some time soon I'll think the same as before - 'stop mucking around and put some more effort into it!'. This will be fueled by two things. First, the fact that despite being happy with my current drawings; I haven't gotten any better - and in fact feel that the 'standard' drawings I'm churning out most of the time aren't as good as some of the ones I do spend more time on... for instance my dad's Bentley I did for him for christmas last year; and (though unfortunately one of only one or two drawings I couldn't scan - this one because it's in a frame) even a drawing I did back in 2007 (just called 'green car')... It's like these two drawings alone are telling me that I know I can do better (though to be fair they're both A3 whilst the rest of my stuff is A4).
The other thing being having seen your work, which is truly amazing - I'd love to be able to do stuff like that, seriously. It looks like you use the same stuff as me - pencil, pen and colouring pencils (?) so I guess the big difference is the amount of effort put into it... I'd be real happy if in two or three years I'm at least halfway between what I do now and what you can do.
In the meantime I'll stick to what I'm used to for the last TVR I'm drawing (which is an awesome car), then get a couple of other cars out the way... then maybe I'll try just a little harder when it comes to my cadillac idea
