The line in your signature is an interesting one.

But then again...what meaning do joyious moments have when it's all gone after a while anyway, if it all ends with death? Why do anything significant in the temporary period before death?

Those moments will be remembered; not by us; but at least by others. Everything that we do is significant because they leads us to our purpose of life. Life is short; and fill it as fast as you can; find your purpose; achieve your goal; and that's when life has meaning.
If life never ends it'll be wasted--and the person would probably never find their real purpose of life cos they never try to find it for they know their life is not bound by death-- they have unlimited ammount of time to find it later and thus never achieve anything; i'ts useless.
Even if they found their purpose; their goal; what will they do if their goal is achieved? their purposed is fulfilled?--they will be empty; lifeless; and without a purpose.

I concur that immortality is not the way.
I suppose you do have to have faith in whatever during your life (not necessarily a God, it can also be that you will be remembered, as you said).
