Hahaha, I have certainly enjoyed Owltober as an artistic motivator! I wonder how many other artists are participating this year... The only ones I've found and been keeping track of have been yourself and of course ~sayunclecomics , though I remember numerous other people taking part in previous years when I was just spectating.
You got stylish skillz, so I'm glad you like my silliness enough to watch!

I was looking at your gallery, and I must say, you have a real talent with animation. Not many people can get that fluidity and solid gestures in their work. Also, your owls are fantastic.

Thank you very much! I hadn't realized you even had an animation folder, so I had a look at your animations. Nice clean work! I kinda miss my lightbox animation days back at university, since inbetweening physically always felt so much more precise than anything I've ever attempted digitally. Once I have an apartment with more space I'll probably break out my lightbox and have a crack at it again. Til then, I'm plenty envious of artists like yourself who are still in the trenches, learning the ropes and polishing their skills every day! Once you graduate, it becomes a challenge to push yourself to practice amidst working jobs to survive (which are of course practice in and of themselves), but it's fulfilling to work on side projects. x] Like owls! Owls can only make life better. 8D ♥

And thank you. I can't express how much I appreciate the advice (and praise >w<) of an experienced animator such as yourself. As just a beginner, I'm still finding my way in the world of keyframes and tweens, and it's nice to find some guidance from those who have been at it longer than myself.
I'm currently in a portfolio class with a very loose structure. While the teacher helps the other class, we're left to our own devices. I get little accomplished this way. I may start some half-baked project with what little technical knowledge I retained from last year, but without some teacherly advice and a little nudge, I rarely finish them. It's weird, in a way. For all the times I resented deadlines, they always helped push me forward. Food for a thought .
There is a lightbox sitting in my own house in some forgotten corner as well. I have the space (even if the height of the chairs and tables don't accommodate it well), and laziness is the only thing keeping me from working at home. In all reality, there isn't really anything stopping me from pulling it out right now.
And indeed, owl are awesome.

I remember when I was just starting out, and how strange it felt to be learning this whole new way of viewing things after years of static art. The more you animate, the more you'll gain intuition for posing, spacing, timing, and everything in-between (no pun intended). It's especially important to push yourself to tackle personal projects and learn new things on your own if you find yourself in a class where the teacher isn't requiring enough of you.
I guess my main hitch for using my lightbox would be tracking down some packs of the pre-punched paper or a hole puncher to fit my pegs. And finding a way to shoot things in register with a consistent exposure. >>

Haha, actually the Owltober thing originated with back in.... 2008, I think? And has been celebrated by numerous artists every year since then. x] Glad you like it, though! ♥
