haha, I wish!

I'm a huge fan of theirs, but that's all I could claim. I guess that technically, I know a person, who knows a person who's had contact with them, but that's about it.

soundassembler In reply to Valimar [2006-01-23 18:18:02 +0000 UTC]

bad ass lol i am a fan as well, did you like the new album lots ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Valimar In reply to soundassembler [2006-01-23 18:21:52 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes, indeed I do.

It's definitely one of their strongest albums to date, and some tracks like Dayvan Cowboy and 84 Pontaic Dream are so good, I wanted to start crying when I first heard them!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

soundassembler In reply to Valimar [2006-01-23 19:58:20 +0000 UTC]

dayvan cowboy didnt do it so much for me, the drone is the main sound in that song and usually drones are in the background so it makes it awckward for me. chromakey dream coat is genius ! i love the drums in there and at the end where it gets quiet there's a subtle banjo in the back that i find is briliant, how do you think of putting a banjo in there i mean... and constants are changing has to be my favorite. did you get a hold of the japonese copy ? macquarie ridge is included on it and it's really good. sounds a lot like zeotrope only 10 times better.

cheers !

Valimar In reply to soundassembler [2006-01-24 10:03:21 +0000 UTC]

See, I love Dayvan Cowboy. That moment (about 2mins in or so), when those violins (or is it an ebow?) kick in is just devine!

Chromakey Dreamcoat is lovely stuff, and I totally agree about the section at the end with the banjo. It's often the way with BoC - the little bits are amongst the best, and every time that I listen to it, I always wish that that bit would go on for longer.

I haven't got hold of the Japanese copy yet, and yoiu've just reminded me to get a hold of that additional track - yay, new BoC

soundassembler In reply to Valimar [2006-01-24 16:27:16 +0000 UTC]

it;s not an ebow, if you want to here an ebow listen to Nine Inch Nails La Mer about 1 and a half to 2 minutes in the song you'll here a drone-like sound that hardly changes come in. that'san ebow. it has a more electronic sound to it. For Dayvan Cowboy they most likely used synthesized strings imitation, i doubt they can afford to hire an orchestra.

oi, I added a new picture to stop you heckling me now when you gonna add a new painting for everyone to drool over, huh?

oh, and I saw some boards of canada albums in my local record shop -- which album would you recommend to someone who has never heard their stuff before except on the amazon.com previews (ie me), and likes music she can howl along to in the bath? Might as well blow my student loan on something other than education

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

soundassembler In reply to Luellen [2006-01-17 04:09:31 +0000 UTC]

lol, which ones did you see ? i really like "music has the right to children" it was the first that i had heard from them, it left me feeling nostalgic and their short little songs had gorgeous melodies. but it also had fast passed songs that were also good. Geoggadi is a very scary album, it has a lot of secret hidden messages everywhere that fans like to obsess about. their new one is very different but also the same. it's super ambient and the use of traditional instruments like guitars, bass and drums is more commonly used in an orthodox kind of way. go with the first one i mentioned, im sure you'll get the rest afterwards. you should really get msn messenger, it would be really fun talking live.

thanks for the wicked cartoon, you really made my day. It's winter right now and depression comes and goes so thank you.

Glad you liked 'muffin' around'! I'm going to re-do it, maybe with colour, once I have more time. I've been busy the last week or so, I was staying in London and then I moved back to uni, which is why I've been away a bit. I'll write something longer to you later, I have to go and complain about being fined on my college bill now AND I WAS NOT GUILTY DAMNIT! *ahem* yes, I just wanted to say thanks for the comments and the BoC advice before I run off to sort this bill out!
