You are a modern Renaissance man. Stay classy.

tygerbug In reply to Newbiemember [2012-07-16 23:14:51 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, I appreciate that!

Reminds me of this quote by John Cleese about Terry Gilliam:

"Some friends call Gilliam a Renaissance man: others place him earlier. The sloping forehead, the forward slant of the body as he lopes and the prognathous jaw all point to the Upper Paleolithic period. But whatever his physical appearance, his graphics, drawings and paintings are unmistakably Lascaux. And his energy is Cromagnon to match.
Left alone with some crates of crayons, some bales of paper and a box or two of fresh fruit, his output is nothing short of phenomenal. But Terry Gilliam is not just an illustrator. "Yuuurrrrrhhhhhhh," he admits, wryly. "Yuuurrrrrrhhhhhhh." Now that "Life of Brian" is safely in the can, Terry is planning to get a typewriter to have a shot at the complete works of William Shakespeare."

I was not at the MLP Fair in Orlando, but I gave Bronycon founder Purple Tinker license to display my work there.

I knew I saw your work there! There were a couple of men near the booth so I assumed one of them could have been you. Was Tinker licensed to sell prints as well? I want to make sure the money from my new Discordlicious poster is going to the artist. :3

Hello!
Saw a video of you from BronyCon on Youtube and decided to check out your website and your DeviantArt page. When you mentioned about working on the The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Cut. I checked here and saw the link to TheThiefArchieve Youtube channel.

Personally, I want to thank you for uploading it because I saw the recobbled cut version a few years ago but was curious of who uploaded and how you were able to find and collect Richard Williams works -- especially the raw footage of his works! It's a great reference to study for animation and see how the The Thief and the Cobbler was original meant to be seen.

So, once again, thank you for sharing it with everybody.

Holy crap, so you worked on The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Cut?! I love that movie! Dude, you're the MAN!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tygerbug In reply to aslitbyfire [2012-03-07 22:47:41 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I edited the restored Recobbled Cut, and also restored many of Richard Williams' other work. It's been an honor and a joy to talk to and work with the original animators and see that people actually care about and enjoy a movie that few people outside of animation circles had really heard of.

A new and improved restoration of the film is coming sometime this year, possibly as early as April. Check the Youtube channel TheThiefArchive ... we're also on Facebook as The Recobbled Cut group and at orangecow.org/board .

Dude, that's awesome. Will it be in theaters? I'd love to see that gorgeous animation on the big screen. It's a real shame it had to wait this long before such a gorgeous production could be given the attention and release it really deserved, like when it was rescued later by people like you who restored and edited it to how it was supposed to look (unlike the awful Miramax version.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tygerbug In reply to aslitbyfire [2012-03-08 06:26:39 +0000 UTC]

It's definitely never going to be in theaters or be an official restoration.

However, it will look a lot better this time. We've even transferred 12 minutes of footage in HD, from two short 35mm reels!

aslitbyfire In reply to tygerbug [2012-03-08 09:36:50 +0000 UTC]

Aww, well still that'll be awesome! Can't wait to see it. The Thief and the Cobbler is Richard Williams' best in my opinion. I'd love to have it on DVD too.

just wanted to say, seeing both a homestuck icon and my little pony art on
the same account, just makes me glad ^^

this will possibly be a strange question, but i have been looking for someone to
have "intelligent" conversations with, talking about philosophy and other things,
you, a homestuck and my little pony fan, seems like a worthy adversary

so if you want to have a chat, send me a note

I heard your interview with Everfree Radio on the podcast today! When you mentioned the various things you were internet famous for, I was thinking, wait, a Star Wars doco? It's not jambe davdar, is it the Deleted Magic guy?

And then you mentioned Richard Williams, and I started thinking, it couldn't be the Recobbled guy, could it?

And then you were those guys, and there was much rejoicing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tygerbug In reply to guitarfan01 [2012-02-03 10:22:48 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for listening!

I'm actually not Jambe Davdar. I did the original Deleted Magic documentary in 2005, and after that Jambe was inspired enough to do Building Empire, Returning to Jedi and Star Wars Begins. They're good, informative films but I felt he was unnecessarily copying my work with the final Star Wars one.

guitarfan01 In reply to tygerbug [2012-02-04 15:10:52 +0000 UTC]

Right, that's what I meant. That you were the deleted magic guy and not davdar.
