Well the paint offers depth that you cant really get w/ makeup maybe with latex... and me being used to painting and realism work with drawing I am very picky with how things look, it took many attempts to get the black eye just right, the blood thick enough, the dirt and bloody areas dark enough...

IMO I think it works better than your general make up, because it is easy to work with and mix and well as not being flat.

i just use scar wax and liquid latex for depth
i have a pretty basic ben nye kit...

i see what you are saying and if you use cream makeup its not to hard to mix and you can apply it with a paint brush. thats what i do
