Thank you for the advice about baking! My friend and I actually planned on cutting our cake like that for the sake of my story, plus we didn't actually want a whole cake as that would be too much.
The cake did not go as badly as the story depicted, but I wanted a basic recipe so that people who have never made strawberry shortcake could get a basic understanding.
However, that being said, I still didn't like the recipe as much as another one I tried, but I did only try the Noriko recipe once. I do have a personal preference for more and thinner layers.

Yeah, I prefer that one b/c there's less sugar
so it's not as sweet. As far as I know, my family
and friends, and I prefer asian cakes as they're

Strawberry shortcakes are my favourite type of cake! Yes, they usually are less sweet than American ones, but there might be exceptions. Some dark chocolate cakes aren't too sweet, so those are pleasant, but on the heavier side.

We're the same, but reversed! Ice cream cake is my second favourite, but I'm a little picky personally, because some ice cream cakes have very dense cake to sustain the weight of the ice cream.
Ice cream is great for hot weather, where I live there are a lot more brumal cold days than hot ones though.
Asian ones are generally light and less sugary ones, without an ingredient with a bitter nature like coffee or chocolate, not to say that those flavours always have less sugar, I doubt that there are many American ones which are overly sweet.

heh, I'm not too picky, the only thing I require is for me to be
able to eat a lot of it, and when it's too sweet I can't do that, cause I feel like
throwing up //gags
Yea, but there are bitter ones, we have coffee cake, and chocolate cake too
and they're both bitter (well some anyways) You'd be surprised at how
many I think are sweet. Even Angel Food Cake, which is kinda the least
sweet of them all is super sweet for me. Higher tiered cakes might be less
sweet, but it's still too sweet for me. Also, a huge contributing factor is the
icing which is about 20 times sweeter than what I like and about 3 times
thicker.

I feel exactly the same way! If it's too sweet than it can be unpleasant to eat it or any large quantity of it.
The bitterness helps contrast the sweetness, but of course, some bakers decide to add extra sweeteners to counteract that. You like cakes, but they can't be overly sweet. I'm surprised you like ice cream cake considering how sweet ice cream is!
Yes! Some icings have way too much sugar or there is simply too much of it. That's why I like to make my own, and lean towards cream cheese frosting at times, because the tang from the cream cheese makes the frosting less sweet. Swiss meringue buttercream is also nice as it has a lighter texture to it.

Perhaps it's texture makes the sweetness more bearable, plus the creaminess of the ice cream. I love ice cream cake as well, so I relate to the fact.
It is nice and airy. The amount of butter that can go into it can seem frightening, but it gets put to good use if the recipe is of quality, and sometimes it uses just as much as the cake.
