Worth the investment, i'd say.
'Uncle Bobby B, baby! Hyuk, hyuk, hyuk!'
Hey, get this! All that talk about Marvel books and stuff, and me being all 'oh no, I'm a comics snob, I don't read Marvel' - well guess what? Today, the hardback copy of Halo Uprising that I'd had on pre-order since forever arrived!
I think I'll be reading that after dinner, when really I ought to be working on Mosaics...

Dark Horse - now there's a publisher that successfully raised their game.
The last few bits I've read of theirs have been their Alien Vs Predator tie-in graphic novels, and their Serenity trades. After a few years of dodgy licensed material, they're really delivering the goods now! It's just too bad they lost all their juiciest licensed manga.

Dark Horse never caught my eye until I found out about Hellboy (so a movie got me into a comic sue me, cartoons got me into them in the first place. Any recomendations? I've been thinking about starting a new series.

We-ee-ell, I don't actually read any monthlies. Trades are just so much more deluxe and seductive to me...
I do think that the way Dark Horse has bucked their ideas up with their Star Wars series is pretty commendable. The Knights Of The Old Republic series is particularly good, with some excellent writing and great art in the earlier volumes.
The Serenity graphic novels are great too. The first one, entitled 'Those Left Behind' is especially strong, and captures the essence of the film and TV show perfectly. There's some great design going on in there, too.
I'm interested to see how the new Aliens series turns out. Some of their past Dark Horse Aliens material was okay. But then again, as with their handling of Preadtor, a lot of it stank to high heaven as well. AvP: Deadliest of the Species is without ANY doubt whatsoever, the most apallingly bad graphic novel I have ever read. All involved with it should feel ashamed, in my opinion.

Hey, everyone's aloud a screwup in their career at leas once, it just sucks for us when everyone involved in a project has that screwup.
And I wasn't just asking about Dark Horse, Hell an online one is good for me too.
PS. I buy monthlies because comics aren't taxed in my area. Plus when it's three dollar comic (rounding up)for a five issue arc, you save a good five bucks by not waiting for the monthlies. Plus the discount card my LCS gave to subscribers helped. 20% off can really make a difference. And no the discount never really worked for trades.

Oh, I hear that - I'd be a richer man if I wasn't so hung up on having trades all the time!
And yes of course, everyone IS allowed to mess up. Shortly, i'll be posting a six page comic that I did last year. It was my first EVER attempt at doing this using Photoshop, and I'm fully expecting to be torn to shreds by my watchers over the many gaffes that I made with it! Which will all be totally cool, as I'm very well aware of what I did wrong with it.
I'm not usually one to stick the boot in when I find something I don't like - but, seriously: AvP Deadliest of the Species... it's so bad it's immortal! I mentioned it a while ago to my LCS owner, and it ellicited loud, sharp intakes of breath and a few stifled guffaws. It's TERRIBLE! But, curiously, like a really, really bad movie... it still holds a perverse ability to entertain... kind of like a Carry On film!
Oh, wait... those aren't entertaining at all...

Ah, thank goodness for these channels! They do so much good for the soul!

The guilty pleasures of my family spread like a wildfire in my house. Turn it on, and the entire family is watching in a few minutes.
These include daytime talk shows, courtroom shows (Judge Judy especially), Police pursuit shows or something of a similar nature, real and fictional forensic shows, wildlife documentaries, and the History channel. I'm the only one that watches scifi (Except for my mom who watches Eureka), unless it's Halloween, the bad horror movies are the best!
The daytime stuff makes for great family bonding. Shame that our TVs had to move a week ahead of us...

Ahh, you've described a treasure trove of compulsive viewing TV!
Those Police Pursuit shows are a personal favourite of mine. They're so over the top and the presenters are so sincere! 'What DOES this insane maniac think he's doing?' and 'The officers engage in a dangerous game of cat and mouse' are favourite over-used cliches of mine.
I once joked with my father about writing a script for 'The World's Wildest Police Videos - The Musical!' Who knows, one day, I may just follow through on that!

Never heard of him.
What do you think of upcoming Transformer and Gi Joe films? Personally I'm excited but the net shows it to be an even tug of war.
Although Terminator and Star Trek were pretty good, (Terminator is by word of mouth only though)
By the way, awesome comic so far. I would have at least drawn my OC's here by now if I could get a scanner and learn Photoshop on a decent computer. But I barely had time to draw a rough sketch, let alone make them good.
I should probably get to typing up my fanfiction's too, senior year sucks for hobbies. I was really annoyed too because I want to become a professional writer and use fanfiction as practice for writing plot and some form of character deveopement without having to worry about undeveloped continuity (I tend to stick with a neutral or well developed one where slight manipulation is accepted for the sake of a story).
Maybe I should post the written character profiles as a Mary-Sue/Gary Stu check...

Ha! I never worry about lengthy replies. In fact, I find 'em a helluva lot more useful than the short ones you usually get on here.
I'm glad you enjoyed the six page comic. I conceived it as a teaser, and had hopes that I could sling it in my portfolio. Sadly, it's just too weak to stand alongside pro work. There's so much wrong with it. I'm writing a handful of episodes as we speak, though, so the pressure is on to make them all a lot better looking.
And you've NEVER heard of Judge Dredd?!? GASP!

Sorry, my dad is very picky about the family guilty pleasures are, I can barely watch Jerry Springer in the public area of the house. I need sleep so he will be googled in the morning. Feel free to nag me.
Although it might not be much, but if you ever need an opinion I'll gladly give one. I normally save criticism for less public things though... A creative teacher once told me that if you retype the whole thing instead of just scouring it would help it come out better, and he was right! Although I could have done without the typing up of 25 pages over a course of two days...
Although for you it means redrawing the entire thing. It would take me hours just to get one panel in somewhat likable shape, natural artist I am not. When I get around to posting pictures, I'll have worked at least several days on them.
By the way, do you think that my self suggestions about character profiles is a good one? Most people tend to be brutally honest so I figure why not. I have several variations on my Transformers OC, so you'd definitely be a help. And with plenty of Marvel, DC and GI Joe fans on the board, so I should get a lot of opinions...
You're 32? Your not one of those basement boys are you?

Well, get some sleep, then google the Judge with extreme prejudice!
I generally welcome all comments and opinions on my work. There are, however, one or two pieces (my six page comic being one of them) where I'm acutely aware of EVERYTHING I did wrong, so from time to time, there'll be a piece I submit like that that I really don't want to hear anything about! XD
And yeah, I'd say if you want to pitch in with your own character material, go for it. It's all good for the creative spark, innit?
And, noooo definitely no basement boy - part of my working regime is to routinely step outside the house, interact with people and remind myself how far from the rest of the human race I'm drifting!

Indeed they are! I must get around to ordering Appleseed: Ex Machina sometime soon.
The first four Dominion Tank Police episodes are really special to me - they remind me of the time I first discovered anime. And I think Dominion, for all its gung-ho craziness and *those* moments, has a certain kind of sweetness to it. I always feel dorry for Al - second fiddle to a tank in the affections of his sweetheart! XD
I just saw a movie called Vexille, from the same producer that gave us Appleseed 2004. It got slated in the press, but it's actually not a bad movie. Looks a helluva lot like Appleseed in places, that's for sure.

Heh, I can guarantee that nothing is as bad as Dracula: Sovereign of the Damned... It's an anime, but it's based off of a Marvel comic. It's so bad, it's funny. Apparently they completely slaughtered it because they had to condense 70 issues into two hours, so it's full of plot-holes. Not to mention that they practically used word for word translation, but no rephrasing to have it make sense. Making the dialog hilarious.
Surprisingly enough it got good ratings on cable.

Oh my word yes! But that was many moons ago, when I was but a wee slip of a lad. I do remember the likes of 'Them!', 'Tarantula!' (starring an impossibly young Clint Eastwood) and many other black and white movies with exclamation marks in the titles.
An old favourite of mine though, would have to be Invaders From Mars, which I saw when I was about 8 years old. It put shivvers up me, and no mistake! I've seen it since, and it's true to say that some of those ideas haven't aged well. But they're still enough to remind me how petrified I was watching it as a child.

Y'know, I actually heard that after Cloverfield hit the cinemas, in spite of the fact that it was really not half as good as people made it out to be, the Godzilla fanboys all started to demand 'Godzilla Vs Cloverfield Monster'. Strange, but true.
You have to wonder, with today's awesome movie effects, what would a traditional creature feature B-movie look like? I actually thought the Roland Emmerich Godzilla wasn't a bad effort, and Peter Jackson's King Kong shows just how well visual effects can be put to use with big scary monsters.
I just hope the current Hollywood trend for snapping up manga and anime rights to turn them into big budget summer movies doesn't give us a load of monster movies with many-tentacled psycho monsters!

Ooh, the G.I. Joe movie! Dennis Quaid can't have ANY money left, can he? I mean, not if he actually agreed to be in that!
In all seriousness, the G.I. Joe movie was a case of 'somebody mentions to me that they're doing it, and I go 'uh.''
I really wasn't at all interested in that movie. However...
Last time I went to the cinema (to see Wolverine Origins, I think) there was a brief trailer showing on a screen in the foyer. It showed some armour-clad ninja dude back-flipping through the air and doing all manner of cool stuff, which made me sit up ang go 'hey!'
It's still not a film I'd go out of my way to see, but if it winds up in front of me sometime, I'll watch it with interest.

Around where I live, it will be a not so surprising hit.
People who aren't fans of a franchise tend to like the movie, unless it is generally bad (Daredevil and Elecktra)or is completely directed to fans (Watchmen). All other times, it's a hit, even if the fans grouse and groan. That's just the way it works.

Of course, I wouldn't say they were good, exactly, either!
There have been a few movies that came along where I was never especially into the idea of the film, and yet I enjoyed it immensely. Last Action Hero with Arnie the Governator and the X-Men Movies are good examples.
Except X-Men 3. That's bad in anyone's book.

Yeah - Punisher movies do generally suck. It's like the MArvel guys just look the other way when people get around to doing a Punisher movie. That's a real shame, as Punisher is one of those things I would read.
I hear the old Punisher with Dolph Lundgren wasn't a bad effort, though.
As far as the X-Men movies go, I'm all for them bringing out new ones periodically. As movies, i actually think they're a lot of fun, but I really do think the series has dipped in the middle. Wolverine Origins was big dumb entertainment, and all the more fun for it, but I did think it was below par in the writing stakes. Far too reliant on familiarity with the series.
The first film is so good, and it hits all the right beats in such a satisfying way, that I honestly think any new films will struggle to top it. That's my two cents, anyhoo.

Yeah, but as good as I think the Wolverine movie was for the genre, they still tried to fit in too much. They could have done without Cyclops.
About Jackman's acting, I'll say. My mom was really freaked out when he sang. I had to keep telling her that it shows how talented he is as an actor. If he can be that much of a goof and still play a serious and broody character like Wolverine, he can play just about anything you throw at him.
Same with the guy who play's Magneto (who's name I'm blanking on). He can act extremely masculine, when he isn't really off screen.

Funny story - about a week after I saw the first X Men movie, I was sitting in front of my grandmother's TV. She was watching some Australian production of one of the big Broadway musicals. I was reading the paper, half-heartedly listening to what was going on. Hearing a voice that seemed uncannily familiar, I looked up to see... Wolverine, belting out 'Oh What A Beautiful Morning' at full tilt. It was quite a shock, I'll tell you.
I hear Jackman and the actor who played Frankenstein's Monster in Van Helsing belted out a classical version of 'Happy Birthday To You' for the director on set as well. Man, why don't these things ever make it onto DVD extras?

Ah, good point!
Musicals generally don't do muh for me at all - I find the whole set up pretty laughable, usually. In my opinion, the whole 'we were acting just now, and now we're bursting into song!' schtick only really suits comedy.
I think the last musical I actually saw was the remake of Mel Brooks' The Producers, which was okay. And while I found the film utterly offensive on every level, I will admit that the Terrence and Philip part at the beginning of South Park: The Movie had me in hysterics! It was about five minutes after that that I had to switch the thing off, though.
