hey I've started working on 'Online Android' a bit like 'Online Windows 8'. Do you want to help develop it with me? Or do you just wanna see the files (I can send you them)? I would send you a screenshot but the screenshot system has just broken

I actually started that myself a while ago. I even wanted to make it mobile compatible so people on iOS or Windows Phone could experience Android. Unfortunately, I'm really busy.

Exams? I had mine before half term Tim is the same as you. Btw firefox OS would be easiest platform to get it on their app store.

Yep, you're lucky . Tim only has one HUGE test, I think. I have like 5 or 10 (don't feel like counting) big exams.

Have you tried Chrome 27's new voice search? (improved so now it converts as you speak and sometimes answers you) Try asking it what's the weather for tomorrow or what's the time.

"Valid HTML5 and Valid CSS3 (unlike loads of other sites such as Google or CloudDesk)"

I'll remove the CloudDesk bit if you tell me the link to the live version (or if you just release it now)

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

DaKoder In reply to DevilishDB [2013-05-08 00:15:37 +0000 UTC]

OK, let's get some things straight here.

First of all, v7.0 is not done. So don't expect a release soon. It's going through an extremely huge update. Lots of PHP, and I'm kind of new to PHP. But, I'm learning, thanks to GrimmDev, and I'm actually getting somewhere.

Second of all, you are not going to get the secret link by insulting CloudDesk. You won't get it by "blackmailing" me or any other developer helping, either. No way. At the moment, Tim and I are the only developers. But, GrimmDev is helping us. Carlos needs the link for other special purposes.

Third, CloudDesk doesn't have to have valid code, it just has to work. Google works, doesn't it? Now, you're comparing Galaxy OS to CloudDesk. Galaxy OS is like a simulator, or a concept of an OS. CloudDesk is an actual online desktop. It's meant for everyday use, and it's meant to work. It's also for productive purposes.

Fourth, the W3 validator isn't all that perfect. It even detects a 30px width as not valid. Also, Tim and I made up lots of code to make CloudDesk better. We invented attributes such as "iframe-src", so that we could retrieve that with the JavaScript and use it to create an app window. It also improves page performance and speed.

So, be patient. You're not going to get the secret link this way. Many other people are patiently waiting for v7.0 to come out. You'll just have to stop bugging me and wait. Thank you.

DevilishDB In reply to DaKoder [2013-05-08 04:55:10 +0000 UTC]

Ok, ok fair enough (sorry). Here is some help with the validation:
The thing you said about with the px IS invalid - you have to use style to add units, if you use width and height attrs it will only let you use px which it doesn't want you to add yourself.
For the iframe-src you should use data-iframe-src since you can create valid custom attrs with that.
For all the images, you should add ALTs. Then people who've turned off images will get an alternative display.
Those things will help it get a better mark and perform better on different

ntim007 In reply to DevilishDB [2013-05-10 17:24:27 +0000 UTC]

Well I can still use width="50%". Nothing wrong about that...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DevilishDB In reply to ntim007 [2013-05-10 18:01:43 +0000 UTC]

Yes there is... It expects only a digit, you can't use percent and although it's in PX you're required to not put it at the end.

ntim007 In reply to DevilishDB [2013-05-08 09:56:32 +0000 UTC]

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

DaKoder In reply to DevilishDB [2013-05-08 09:52:07 +0000 UTC]

Apology accepted

I didn't realize that those things were using width and height attrs. You're also right about the iframe-src. And why would someone turn off images?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DevilishDB In reply to DaKoder [2013-05-08 12:41:59 +0000 UTC]

They might if they had slow internet and mostly read articles. Also it means it can show something instead of a blank square when loading them if images are enabled.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DaKoder In reply to DevilishDB [2013-05-08 19:20:56 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's not really high priority. If they had slow internet, CloudDesk would take hours for them to load.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DevilishDB In reply to DaKoder [2013-05-08 19:51:52 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but on the other hand you should try to make it as accessible as possible. What about phones? People using phones might turn off images to reduce their bills, also my phone takes about 10 secs to load with Opera 4 (it's really old and it doesn't support newer versions; Opera's the best it can get. Also it doesn't work at all but on newer phones/browsers it would) since it uses server compression before sending to the phone. That's not loads of time but enough to need alt images, and I would put up with it if it was practically usable... But as you said not high priority.

Can I fork CloudDesk? It is open source, right? (Or am I just making that up?) Then I could put my own features in it and make it work how I want. I would of course credit you, and anything in the fork I made I would let you use in the official version if you wanted. You can discuss that with Tim if you want, I don't mind if the answer is no, just wondering.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DaKoder In reply to DevilishDB [2013-04-23 19:12:45 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry, but CloudDesk is not open source... Well, not yet. But you may be an exception. Still, we're always adding new stuff to CloudDesk. There's probably not going to be final, final, version.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DevilishDB In reply to DaKoder [2013-04-23 19:40:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know it won't be final, just I could download the page every time it was updated (search HTTrack - only problem is it can't get source of PHP) or get you to send them, then add the same features/modifications of the old fork. Y u no make it open source? Things I would add: resizeable windows, maybe some new apps, tweaks, new features, html5 error fixing etc.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ntim007 In reply to DevilishDB [2013-04-28 13:38:05 +0000 UTC]

we could make windows resizable, but that would cause some problems to apps, and some apps don't need that functionality (calculator, calendar,...).
Maybe we can make a open source fork of CloudDesk called OpenDesk that would be php free, I'll talk to DaKoder about it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DevilishDB In reply to ntim007 [2013-04-28 13:51:28 +0000 UTC]

Maybe we can make a open source fork of CloudDesk called OpenDesk that would be php free, I'll talk to DaKoder about it.
...so I could fork it? That would be awesome! Like Chromium and Chrome - one is extended by Google and has extra non-free (as in freedom) extras, but Chromium is fully open source. Something like that for CloudDesk would be cool!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ntim007 In reply to DevilishDB [2013-04-28 13:56:42 +0000 UTC]

but you'll have to contribute to OpenDesk to fork it.
It will be better for CloudDesk, OpenDesk and your fork :
Why ?
Because you won't have to reinclude your changes each time OpenDesk updates.
Contributions will be made with a bugzilla. They must be approved and marked resolved fixed before they can be included to OpenDesk.
Also, you won't have access to the php login.
You'll be able to contribute to the cutting edge features.
