I KNOW! That was my first thought too, that he could recognize her voice instantly after not seeing her for so long. When a voice started to come out of the badge, I was like, "OMG it's Rukia's voice, isn't it?!!! It's gotta be! No...no, don't get your hopes up. It's probably just Inoue or maybe someone random like Urahara. *I turned the page* YYEEEESS! It is Rukia's voice! I KNEW it!"

I'm really excited for an epic reunion between them. They always have the greatest reunions! Like when she came to the classroom after the whole Soul Society arc and he just stared at her in amazement....

Yup, they always had the greatest reunions (and partings too)
And they have such epic reunions too! The "Man in My Heart speech"... the "save the reunion for later!".. his pause before his reply when she said, "Aren't we nakama?"... the epic parting complete with shoujo bubbles... Oh, Kubo, you're such a tease! XD

Personally, my favourite reunion is when she showed up in the window at his classroom and he just stared at her, stammering her name....You couldn't write it off as plain old surprise, because he'd just seen five shinigami show up and he didn't have that face of complete "Oh my god, it's YOU.." smitten-ness. It was so obvious that she was different than everyone else for him.....and then of course she drags him off for the pep-talk, which was PERFECT and shows how well she knows him....

I'm sorry...inner fangirl is coming out. Kubo is the master at keeping things just romantic enough for readers to hope, and just platonic enough to cause mass confusion.

I've been trying as hard as I can not to picture the reunion, because I don't want to be disappointed if it's not as epic as my imagination....*crosses fingers for epic reunion*

Most of my favourite mangas are shounen ones with romantic side stories, or the possibility of romantic side stories. I love my action with my romance, and that's why I like Bleach! There's just enough romantic connotations to keep my interest peaked, and to keep me waiting for further developments.

Me too! One of the reasons why I'm so addicted to Bleach is because of the romantic tension between the three main characters! I love seeing Inoue fret about Ichigo and Rukia's relationship (yeah, i'm evil), and I love the Ichiruki interactions.. They're great!

Shounen romance tends to be more realistic (minus the ecchi things, obviously) in portraying love than shoujo mangas. Even though I say that, there are only quite a few shounen mangas that portrays that well XD

I love how there's actually so much love triangles and shizz around the characters....There's the Renji, Rukia, Ichigo thing, the Orihime, Ichigo, Rukia thing, and then of course Ishida likes Orihime (it's so obvious, at least to me)....

What other shounen manga have you read that portray love well? The only one that pops to my mind is Psyren...

I read Bakuman too! Yeah, I enjoyed Psyren a lot....it's completed now, so it's not a huge manga like Bleach, but it was pretty good.

Canon: Ishida likes Orihime
Renji likes Rukia
Orihime likes Ichigo

Disputed: Ichigo likes ?
Rukia likes ?

That's Bleach right there. Plus a few thousand battles.

You've surely hit the right spot there. I just don't see why detractors (or Ichihime shippers) see that Ichihime would be the most likely pairing in Bleach. I mean, from my POV (and without shipping goggles on), it is most likely Ichiruki, or there would be no pairing at all. But considering all Kubo-sensei has done for the development of our ship, I am having second thoughts now *smirks*

One of the big things for me is that Ichigo and Orihime have known each other for a long time, and Orihime has not made a move, or made herself significantly close to him. Ichigo and Rukia knew each other for two months, and they formed a bond that was ridiculously strong. In fact, the event that allowed Orihime to start becoming friends with Ichigo at all (when we first meet Orihime, Ichigo tells Rukia that he's not that close to her...that Orihime's just a friend of someone he knows) was the arrival of Rukia in Karakura Town.

More battles than you'd think a person could go through....

I agree. If weren't for Rukia, the two of them wouldn't be that close. But still, even though Ichigo and Rukia just spent such a short amount of time together, it's still amazing that they understand each other that much. The only other person who can understand Ichigo to that extent is Chad. XD

Hantarou put it perfectly when he told Ichigo how much Rukia talked about him when she was imprisoned..."She said that you'd only spent two months together...but for some inexplicable reason she felt she could trust you completely." And Ukitake, her captain, said himself that Rukia doesn't make friends easily becuase she doesn't open her heart up to people. Yet, after two months with Ichigo, she has complete trust in him? That's huge, for Rukia.

Man, the IchiRuki is so obvious, it's like it's kicking us in the face!

I think it's probably because the voice actors and stuff have to get into Ichigo's head to try and be in character for their acting. And when they get in character, they can tell that Ichigo loves Rukia!

At least we can beat those rival ships with logic.

Yeah! Rukia is necessary for Bleach to exist. If you eliminate Orihime, and say have Chad be the one who was kidnapped to bring them to Hueco Mundo, not that much would be different in storyline terms...

Yup, I agree. But imagine if Chad was the one who'll be saved, say for example in the Soul Society arc, with all those tear-jerking farewell scenes (with Nii-sama and Renji and "I'll never forgive you" speech".. Gods, gross.) If that happened, I would have mistaken Bleach as shounen-ai, and I would speculate that there is yaoi = IchigoxChad *pukes in disgust*

Also, I highly doubt that Ichigo could carry Chad in one arm....he'd have died. Yeah, those scenes would take on a totally shounen-ai meaning with Chad there...which proves how romantic they are when it's Rukia!

I actually looked through some ichihime scenes versus ichiruki scenes and tried to imagine what they would be like if Orihime and Rukia were boys in them. If Orihime was a boy, then the way Ichigo treats her wouldn't be seen as romantic at all, just older brotherly. But if Rukia were a boy, then some of the scenes between them start screaming yaoi-ness (well, hinting at it).
