to answer your question, i use an adapter to reverse mount my lenses, one end screws in to the filter thread on the front of the lens, and the other is a normal bayonet mount, you lose any auto functions obviously, and you have to focus by moving the camera back and forth but it does allow for some very close shots, my 24mm lens reversed covers a really rather comically small amount of space, although the depth of field is equally tiny.
my adapters made by nikon, for my nikon camera, i think pentax make one, but i'm not sure, and it may not fit all lenses etc. but failing that you can always just hold the lens in position with your hand, it's fiddly but possible, a few of my earlier macros were done like that.
