Actually, I am thinking about going into the gaming industry. I reeaallyy want to go to one of the following three colleges: RIT, Carnegie Mellon, or RPI for the gaming industry. I know there are colleges specifically for the gaming industry, but these three rank very well in computer science, which is what I want to go into.
Even with the knowledge of 3D art, and just art in general, I've never taken an Art class, so I don't have the "background" knowledge some colleges would like me to have.
And that's exactly why I want to learn to use Maya (for the reason you said in comment directly above), but I can't afford it. My dad is the one who got Cinema 4D.

I checked out your pic of Haruko smooching with Naota, it looks pretty good to me.
I think that the best way to learn drawing anime or manga, is to practice drawing it by imitating professional work, such as FLCL. It helps you to visualize what good anime and manga pictures look like, but also be able to draw them. So when you are drawing your own characters, you would be drawing parts from many different characters to create your own character; that is, until you can create a style of your own (I need to work on mine).
How long have you been drawing? I think you have a great start so far. Keep it up!
(sorry for the long blabbing, but I wish I would get around to drawing more, so I'm just suggesting that if you do want to draw better, draw MORE)
