zeldatwilightfreak In reply to ??? [2014-02-26 02:23:10 +0000 UTC]
Oh man I wish I had had that much time for one of my cosplays! It was literally like one month before the convention and it took many many hours of hard work and tears to produce that hell of a dress (It was really messy looking!) so much gathering,....so yeah that is why I wanted to do Middy because her outfit is actually like her suit not like skirts or such!

Yea, her outfit is pretty simple in construction. haha
I wanna do another cosplay, but I'm not sure what of yet...

do you wanna do something Zelda related or anime related? Sometimes I have a really hard time deciding, I've actually never cosplayed as like an anime anime person I have cosplayed as Sophie from Howl's moving castle and I simply loved it! To me it depends on what I'm into at the moment!

yeah that is actually a really good idea, it would be like recycling! lol I'm so sorry to ask this again but I'm about to buy my sentai suit to start painting it and I honestly forgot the type of paint that you advised me to use....

I used a generic fabric paint I got from Michaels. When dry, it's rubbery and flexible, Β doesn't crack.Β
Are you doing the same one as me, Β or her imp form?Β

yeah, I'm actually doing her human version, Oh I have one more question, when you went to the convention did you wear shoes at all or just walk around barefoot??
π: 0 β©: 1
omnomphenomenonArt In reply to zeldatwilightfreak [2014-03-23 02:26:12 +0000 UTC]
It was against the rules to go barefoot, Β due to the risk of stepping on things. I would have gone with shoes either way, just because I hate being barefoot.Β
I got a pair of black heels, that just covered the toes and had a strap around the ankle. I wanted them to be less noticeable, Β and to cover as little of my foot as possible. As a backup, Β because I'm not used to wearing heels and they started hurting my feet, Β I also had a pair of flats with me.Β
I've also seen cosplays where they had those plastic see-through heels, although I personally found them to be a bit uncomfortable.Β
And, Β depending on the rules for where you go, Β I'm sure you'll be okay to take your shoes off just to pose for photos? Β c':

yeah, I guess your write and I actually do remember reading something in the convention textbook that did mention something about shoes but I just didn't know what would be comfortable to walk in all day and match my outfit at the same time...I wonder if they would let you walk in like little slippers...

Double check you conventions rules, but we were allowed at ours.
I have gone through several different pairs of heels, trying to find a comfortable pair. I'm not much a person to wear anything higher than an inch, and the ones I wore for the cosplay were 6 or more. XDD

Don't worry!! XDD No problem, at all~
And I think I may have figured out what my next cosplay will be.. Toph from Avatar: The Last Airbender!!Β
My boyfriend suggested it, and I can't believe I didn't think of it myself. XDDDD

Oh my gosh that is perfect!!! I love Toph she was always one of my fave characters on Avatar! I never was a big fan of katara, I thought she was a bit bossy and some points with Toph and it kinda made me a bit mad (lol crazy right) I'm kinda picky about that, If oneΒ character picks on another I jump on their case, lolΒ

hehe I kinda understand where Katara was coming from, having to pretty much be the parent as her brother was kind of immature.
I dunno which outfit I want to do.. I like her Earth outfit, but I absolutely loved everyone's Fire Nation clothing~

yeah! and I actually do have some pics from the cosplay but I'm not to happy with the results so I'm going to be ordering me another zentai suit to start over!!!! You see when I got the zentai suit me and my friend basically sprayed me down in it with simply spray black fabric paint, which seemed like a good idea at first, until we got the results. It took like maybe 2 hours to get the tape rearranged on my body and junk but the painters tape we used didn't work well enough I guess...and the fabric on the zentai suit was really loose on me even though I ordered a medium, it still was very crinkly in some places and that caused the tape to fall off of certain points so when we began spray painting get this...I didn't have enough cans...mainly because my mom told me 2 small cans would be enough, so here we are outside in the grass probably casuing the neighbors to call the cops and we run out of spray paint not even halfway through..I still blame my mom for the ending results.... so my friend's mom runs to walmart (which is the worst place to try to find simply spray fabric paint...) and picks up this crappy stencil paint, and let me tell you that is the devil reincarnated! Do not under any circumstances use that product! we started spraying me down and junk and I could feel the stuff coming through the suit and onto my skin!
So yeah, in the end, the result was very sloppy, because of the tape that kept crinkling up the lines were very uneven and I got black splotches on the places that were supposed to be purely white... and honestly if It had only been that I could have gone over it but there was just a huge ass splotch right in the middle of my tummy and I just threw the towel in. Then to make matters even worse when I toook off the suit IΒ was right about the stuff seeping in through the fabric even though it was quote fabric spray and kid friendly...and I got it everywhere. It devoured my bra and favorite pair of underwear...not to mention that I had black all over me, most of it came off in a week but I mean it was everywhere! It was on my thighs and my butt and my boobs and under my arms and just every freakin where!
So yeah, I'm going to be ordering me a new one andΒ ahem, going to paint it, no spray painting again...like ever! The only thing I'm worried about with fabric paint it that is cracks...I really don't want that happening...would you suggest acrylic instead??

omnomphenomenonArt In reply to zeldatwilightfreak [2014-04-26 05:41:46 +0000 UTC]
oh man.. that sounds terrible!! D':
How much is a new suit?
I honestly don't know what to suggest.. I was just bare-skinned, with a shaped shirt sewn to a bra for covering. I have no clue how even acrylic fabric paint would hold up to stretching on a suit..
I think your best bet would be to look it up, see what people have used for those suits.

60 dollars!!!! yeah, my mom wasn't too happy that I was going to have to buy another one...even though I'm the one who paid for it, I honestly think she was mad because she thought I was being too picky but it is far beyond repair and I love to get my cosplays right, not messy or sloppy or wrong! I actually did a little research on this before we did it, I followed a classic tutorial on youtube and sprayed myself just like the girl did but I don't think me and my friend paid enough attention to crucial details, like the weather, it was really windy and we couldn't spray paint me inside so we had to do it outside and I suggested towels to cover the parts that were't being painted but she thought it would be okay so we took a risk...and now I'm going to be paying for it...literally. I think I'm going to just order me another one and paint it by brush on myself and tie it back so I can actually tape myself correctly.
I honestly don't know if I need to buy another zentai suit though, because my mom mentioned that the one I bought didn't look that breathable but I 'm really scared that it is going to be some type of polyster and spandex crap and it will be all shiny and metallic looking and I don't want that!
Oh and I have another question!! what paint did you use on your fabric because it looks fantabolous! It looks so professional, was it fabric paint or acrylic?
π: 0 β©: 1
omnomphenomenonArt In reply to zeldatwilightfreak [2014-05-12 12:51:41 +0000 UTC]
mm Maybe if it's shiny, you could try putting talc powder to make it look more dull? I don't know if that would actually work though, just a suggestion to try..
Acrylic fabric paint. I don't remember the brand..

Dunno if this'll help now, but I was cleaning out my room and found some of the old bottles of paint I used for my cosplay. The brand was Tulip

aw cool! thanks I'll have to look up on it! do you know the foam you used on your headpiece, where exactly did you get it? did you have to order it or did you find it at just a local store because I can't seem to find the same type of material used in that foam..all I keep on finding is craft foam or Styrofoam which won't go very far...at all

My aunt got it for me from a dollar store. It's just dense, soft foam, that marks easily.Β
