I use gimp when I do animations most of the time. I usually draw multiple pictures in inkscape and then load them all into gimp as layers and then save as a gif file.
However, the small animation I did for that last example was done by just taking screenshots of what I did in inkscape. On Linux there aren't very many good tools for making videos. Maybe some day I'll have a fast computer with better tools and be able to record video tutorials of how I draw everything!

Yeah. I think I found the page to download the windows version here.

I hope it works for you. I will warn you though that gimp is very complicated compared to inkscape and it has a lot more tools, but that means it can also do a lot of things.
It's not the same type of tool as inkscape exactly.
Maybe I can help you with it if you have questions.

Basically it can be used to open and edit any file that is png, jpeg, gif, or bmp and a few other file formats. In fact it has it's own file format called xcf.
Generally people use it to edit photographs.
You can edit each tiny pixel of any image. However, because it can't resize things very well it's not suitable for the more geometric art of inkscape. However, sometimes it's good to combine both programs for different purposes.
For example, when I edit people's scanned pencil drawings. I try to reduce the colors in gimp and then try to import it into inkscape and trace it.

10binary In reply to samrox101 [2011-07-06 01:08:49 +0000 UTC]
Yeah. I typically draw things in inkscape then export them to a bunch of png files like 0.png,1.png,2.png, etc.
Then I open as layers in gimp and then save as a gif.
I saw a few of your animations. How did you make them?

Your welcome. I'm usually too busy drawing to read people's literature but the title caught my attention. I think you favorited one of my things. When someone favorites my stuff I usually return the favor if I find anything good.
