I am just curious, do you make a good amount of extra money when you make and sell your soft mounts? I am asking because, I would like to find some way to make some extra cash my self, and taxidermy is something I am working on right now.

okay well the pelt is mountable and I'm pretty sure his ears are turned. I was also wondering if you knew how to put the earliners in cause I've had a real problem figuring that out?

(pardon my spelling and typos) You need to find a taxidermy tutorial on the interwebs somewhere. I'm sorry, but I don't know of any off hand where I can share a link with you. But I do know they exist. Try looking under Mckenzie Taxidermy tutorials(vids). They are very helpful, and easy to dl/'live' feed. It's not easy to explaine doing ear liners via text. There is much more then just sliding the liner into the opening and hoping they look good when everything is set and dry. You don't want drumming, and the ears are still skin, so they will shrink as they dry, and you don't want drumming. There is form cutting, liner trimming and heat adjusting, and knowing if the liners are proper, which on the whole is something you learn on your own as you use diff. ear liner materials and diff. co's who sell diff. types of liners and 'glue/clay' and to find out which one works best for you as the 'artist' -annnnd what you prefer, as well as what looks best. There is also need for checking the actual ears to find out if the ears are all the way turned out or they will fold or tear. Then in some cases, only partial turning if the ears are thin, leaving in the cartilage. It's all a matter of preferance, not what someone tells you to use. And try not to cheap out. If you can't afford the proper materials, then you should wait till you can. And again, ear liners go by s/m/l. And no one set suits every fox, ever. I just redid a fox of mine that was my 3rd soft mount. I had to use and trim and adjust grey fox fabric ear liners to fit him, because his ears were so small. He's a silver fox, so despite the fact that he is a black phase of the red, his ears are quite diff indeed and shaped like an Arctics.(he's a ranched silver) So, you need to know what, when and how to use diff appropriate things. Because just when your about to mount, you find the eyes you have are actually too small. A form may say 14mm, when the fox pelt it's self had larger eyes, and require 16mm. But 16mm won't fit into the form, so you need to be able to adjust the form to suit the larger eye. As you can see, that's what a lot of 'derpadermy' exists. Not that's what you would winde up doing, but people don't realize that there is a LOT more then just hydration, slipping in earliners, 'shuving' in a form and tucking. It doesn't take an hour, it can take up to 6 hours. and that's on a hide that's properly hydrated, thinned, turned, and a headform that's been altered b4 hand and eyes that have been calibrated and set 3 days before so they don't move during mounting. And anyone who's posted a decent looking mount will tell you the same thing. It's a lot harder then it looks. Especially when it looks REALLY good. I'm not trying to discourage you at all. I had a few derps and failures, but that's even after I did a few months of research into l/s mounting b4 I even attempted to plush. And the plushing process... as far as I am concerned, it's a hell of a lot harder then doing a l/s. Because your trying to make a realistic stuffed animal, not a soft, cute faced sausage. Just shuving in a bag of stuffing is going to make you happy. That's why I developed containment weighting, and jointed armature. ...

ohhhh, anyhow, your going to need all that info to get the correct form(not every form is the same or same size, not one form fits every fox) turned out means that the pelt is appropriate for mounting. No lips or eyelids, or turned out nose and ears means probably NOT mountable. Most of all, no lips means there is really no way to keep the foxes pelt to the headform. You really should have a fox with turned ears, so you can put earliners in... if it doesn't have earliners, the ears will fold/collapse over a short time.
