Good to meet a fellow british comedy geek (no offence) and a liker of Apples, also, you're from Canada that means you're automaticlly cool! Have you ever listened to The Goon Show? Ha! It's fabulous! listening to it I can really see (and hear) where Monty Python developed their style! hope you don't mind if I give you a watch.

CaffeinatedFrog In reply to Dodo-Butt [2005-12-29 03:02:57 +0000 UTC]

Oh, no offence taken! I revel in my geekhood. We're not exactly "cool".... but we do have beavers. And no, I haven't seen The Goon Show. Have you ever heard of Fawlty Towers? And thanks for the watch!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dodo-Butt In reply to CaffeinatedFrog [2005-12-29 22:21:58 +0000 UTC]

Beavers are cool... they are N. America's largest rodent!
Fawlty Towers is great! John Cleese is the best type of comedian because he looks all proper and serious but he can be so nonsensically silly!
The Goon Show is an old british radio show fron the 50s here's a [link] Being radio, it takes a little getting used to but it's funny (It's what Monty Python and other comedy legends listened to when they were young.)
Thanks for the watch

CaffeinatedFrog In reply to Dodo-Butt [2005-12-29 23:25:02 +0000 UTC]

God, I love John Cleese A Fish Called Wanda is one of my favourite movies. Robert Carlyle is great too. What about Hugh Laurie or Blackadder? British comedy is the best comedy, I swear the whole nation is made up of comedians.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dodo-Butt In reply to CaffeinatedFrog [2005-12-29 23:48:29 +0000 UTC]

I still haven't seen A Fish called Wanda (and I just saw a blurb about it last night too) no more excuses, I've gotta get to the video store!
I've seen a little "Blackadder" but what I've seen I like! I've seen Robert Carlyle in The Full Monty (so funny!)
OMG!!! I JUST REALIZED that Hugh Laurie is "House" I am an Idiot, I can't believe I didn't make that conection! I'm sittin' there watchin' Backadder on Christmas eve and House last night, going "I know who he is, where have I seen him before?" He's great!
Don't mind me, new brain!
Yes it seems all of them are talented comedians over there! I guess it's due to their reputation for being so prim and proper, so when they get really silly it's that much funnier! Do you like Red Dwarf? I spent some time in Ireland so I got to see some shows that some people over here haven't yet heard of, so I have to ask, Have you ever seen "Father Ted", "Harry Enfield's Television Programme", or "little Britain"?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

CaffeinatedFrog In reply to Dodo-Butt [2005-12-30 00:29:46 +0000 UTC]

Oh, talk about brain malfunctions; I was watching 101 Dalmations (yeah... I needed an electric fence joke) and it took me an hour afterward to figure out that Mr. Weasley was Horace. Haven't seen the other two, but I've caught a few snatches of Little Britain. My dad keeps telling me to watch Red Dwarf, I really should find some of those... God, they're all so funny

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dodo-Butt In reply to CaffeinatedFrog [2005-12-30 01:24:44 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, Red Dwarf is great, it's not everyday you see a sci-fi comedy! Father Ted is actually an Irish show, it's about three priests and their crazy adventures. It's great fun! Harry Enfield is a sketch show. and Only Fools and Horses is about two brothers. One's always got some scheme, and the other is kind of dim-witted. I've only seen a little of Little Britain as well, my Irish stepdad is always showing us some funny new TV show, that's how I found out about it.

My Uncle John is pretty much the guy that links me up with British comedy... he can't complete a sentence without swearing, because he hasn't quite had England drummed out of him yet

Foreigners are cool! I learn so much from them!
I was on a 28 hour bus trip all alone, and some guy sitting behind me was reading the sports section of a Bosnian newspaper, he told me all about different basketball players from his country and how they were succesful and making their home proud. at risk of sounding like a nerd learning stuff is fun! D:

CaffeinatedFrog In reply to Dodo-Butt [2005-12-31 04:47:53 +0000 UTC]

Nothing wrong with learning Makes a happy brain. I'm trying to get fluent in German (long ways off) because half my family speaks it. And, after meeting my German second cousin, I've reached the conclusion that if all German men look like he does, I will simply HAVE to learn it So I can smuggle one home with me if we ever go!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Dodo-Butt In reply to CaffeinatedFrog [2005-12-31 22:13:58 +0000 UTC]

German is a great language to learn! It can be easy at times because english is a germanic language, so a lot of the words are similar! language classes for school in Ireland are mandatory so I picked german. It was fum because I had been interested in german and learned some even before that, It's a great choice. (don't forget to watch the german episodes of Monty Python!)

Oh yes My friend said it sounds like you're choking on a hairball, but her family is DANISH! So they wear clogs. And very English people trying to be very German people has to be one of the funniest comedy things ever You live in Ireland? That's awesome, I've always wanted to go there!

"Now is the time on sprokets when we dance!" -Mike Myers as Dieter on SNL.
I lived in Ireland for a while. But now I'm back in New Hampshire. It was cool. The grass is always green no matter what season it is (because it's constantly raining.) The mountains are beautiful and there are old castle ruins everywhere! It's amazing! Dublin city was fun, there's plenty to do and it's easy to get around.. Just hop on a double decker bus (they have them there too) only a small percentige of people drive cars over there so there is much in walking distance. the food is pretty good too but watch out, it's easy too get fat on it.
(lord knows I did )

Vancouver Island (so small it doesn't get a spot on most maps) is basically a tiny Ireland then It rains... and rains.... and rains... and, in fact, it's raining now. Like it was yesterday. And last night...

The umbrella business booms! I'm surprised it's not snowing there, we got some snow today and last night and Vancouver is a bit farther north than NH. What's the climate usually like there?
Wow! The west coast eh? Is it true that when in the Pacific ocean hurricanes are called typhoons?
(that's nutty...j/k)

CaffeinatedFrog In reply to Dodo-Butt [2006-01-02 16:30:21 +0000 UTC]

You know, I've never, ever heard of hurricanes being anywhere near here. We have wind, oh yes we do, but it's the straight-blowing-tear-your-face-off kind... And typhoon... no, I don't think so The climate here swings between "wet and windy" to "dull and grey" with a sprinkling of sun and the occasional storm of death. We had a power outage just this week, actually.

I'm afraid of storms whenever a storm hits our area (they don't even have to be that big) I wan't to go out for a car ride because cars are safe in storms. Then I whimper like a wee child. I'm so afraid there's going to be a tornado whenever there is a storm and it's nearly imposible for tornados to form in our region! It's such an irrational fear, luckily we don't have storms often. Sorry about all the rain.

Oh, I like rain It's just the whole after effects of rain. Especially on PE days at school, not too fun when playing in four inches of watery mud. And in summer... the gnats, oh, the gnats. Ugh, gnats.

rugby is the only sport for the mud! gnat swarms are like a weather formation themselves.

we'll have to develop a gnat shield...it could also shield from wind... and we could call it a... "wind-shield" or "gnat-splat-guard"!
