Each to his own I guess. Personally I love musicals.
What about opera? All singing in those.

Opera? Yikes! Not my thing.
Mind you, it did just come to mind how Moulin rouge actually looked really interesting to me. That idea of using modern songs and the flamboyant style of it did make an impression on me. Sadly, I only ever got to see about five minutes of it on TV. It was deemed 'too annoying' by my family, who promptly switched over to watch a soap instead. :/

Soap's are horrible!
But I think anyone could appreciate a good rock opera. And definitely the Jerry Springer opera in Boston.

Depends what's meant by rock opera. Definition is everything...
I found an album some years ago by an English rock band called Marillion. The album was called Brave, and told the story of a young woman who was found wandering the Severn bridge in a state of shock. I listened to that album so many times, I'm amazed I haven't worn it out!
A bit of deeper digging turned up the interesting marketing tactics that they used for that album. Instead of making the usual promo videos, they spent the money on hiring a director and making a short film. Sadly, that wasn't very good...
But, the music itself was barnstorming! An absolutely fantastic bit of work.
And yes, soap operas are the single biggest blight of modern developed society. They preach a litany of conflict, amoral conduct and pettiness. If I were ruler of the world, I'd make that trash illegal under international law!

I have friends who dig CSI a lot. They're always telling me how great it is, but I've never been drawn in by what little I've seen of it.
Talk of CSI reminds me of the Ghost In The Shell TV series, which I've always described to people as a 'sci-fi CSI'. I just got the first season on DVD, and am slowly ploughing through it. Now that is one awesome show! And I'm amazed at the quality of the music throughout - it's Yoko Kanno, who did the music for Cowboy Bebop. It's unusually high quality stuff, and that opening theme won't get out of my head!
Plus, those little Tachikomas really make me laugh. The body of a killing machine. The voice of a schoolgirl ditz. Excellent!

Heh! One of many reasons why DVD box sets rawk! Oh yes!
I'm a card carrying Ghost In The Shell nut ever since I read Shirow's manga. There's a few things in there that I really take exception to, but otherwise, I think it's a pretty unique Cyberpunk story. Kind of strikes me as how William Gibson would do manga.
And the second Ghost In The Shell Paperback looks so good, it made me visibly sag when I read it. It's work like that that shows all us budding comic book artists just how far we have left to go...

Yeah, some writers have that special something that makes you think 'how does this guy do it?'
In the case of comic books, I'm constantly finding new peaks of achievement in the medium. Even if it's stuff I'm not immediatelt drawn to, a high quality approach and some deft writing skill draws me in all the time.

Yeah, thank God I'm picky about confusing plots. At least with Marvel, tie in's don't require you to buy the main event. Unlike DC... God, can you believe they killed Batman?

My LCS owner said something about that. But I take it he won't be staying dead for very long.
I was more disturbed by what I'd heard about what Greg Rucka is doing to Bat Woman. Mr. Rucka seems to confuse shock tactics for stimulating reading at times, in my opinion. Just look at what he did with Queen And Country. Pretty much anything he can think of to draw a sharp intake of breath was in that one!

Ah, it's a problem with comics in general, right now. That's what I feel, anyway.
The industry is having trouble competing with modern distractions like video games and the internet. Monthlies are a dying market. My LCS owner gives them about another decade before they disappear entirely.
So, all too predicatbly, we're going to see shock tactics being employed to draw in readers or keep existing ones on board. The irony is, some folks hate that approach, and will just jump ship.

My cousin says that comics will never die completely. Remember how you had to buy and play through the video games in order to fully understand the Matrix movies? He says that some TV shows and movies might start doing that, but also using comic books.
Also, he readily points out that a monthly has the chance of gaining exponential value, a datafile doesn't. That and the pictures look better when printed.

All good points. But I do wonder sometimes how much life there is in commercial comics.
When you consider that almost all monthlies now are written with the secondary (graphic novel) market in mind, that shows how the face of the industry is changing. I'm also reliably informed that most monthly series have quite shockingly low circulation numbers. A retailer recently told me that he was convinced that Jonah Hex, for example, would have been cancelled some time ago if there weren't a movie in the works.
Multi-media projects where comics / games / TV / movies all cross over is a nice idea. But ultimately, I'm not for it. I think it makes for an inaccessible experience for some people.
And, oh yeah - I've just seen RotF! So now you can add my being smug to being a wise guy! (all in good fun!)

Oh, I see! Hell yeah! Party!
Tell me, do the young folks still do any work in college these days?
In the UK, we have universities, strange establishments where our young folks go for a few years, get drunk 7 nights a week, attend constant parties and adopt bizarre fringe religions, indulge in all kinds of freaky sexual experimentation, and then come out the end of it working in either legal, medical, social healthcare or political fields.
Does it show that I never attended?

I'm really sorry to hear that. It's tragic when folks are taken away from us at such an early age.
In circumstances like that, I can full well understand why somebody would want to get a tattoo. We all of us have our own unique and individual ways of paying our respects to those we've lost.

Weeeelll...
I had a girlfriend a couple of years ago who was simply so full of the feminist crap that her mother and sister had fed her with, that it was practically impossible to have a conversation with her about anything. As soon as a contrary opinion or point of view was offered, she would spout all this 'independant woman' and 'suppression of the fairer sex' BS. It was basically her way of trying to bully and get her own way. I never did kowtow to it.
Then of course, when I caught her out cheating, I repaid the months of grief by simply calling her for what she was.
Feminism, and indeed femininity, is one of HdE's BIG buttons. A lot of women these days have forgotten what it is to be lady-like. And in much the same way, I'm obliged to point out that a lot of men are no longer manly.
Now THAT is the scary part of it all.
I say, turn the T-rex on all the selfish, obsroperous people who use those notions of masculinity and femininity to try to get everything they want, and buloly the opposite sex into getting their own way. We SHOULD have come much farther than that by now.
