Wow you have some cool work, what software do you use if it's not a problem.

I mostly use Manga Studio 5 now, but a few months ago I was using Paint Tool Sai. I use an old version of photo shop for final edits or resizing or any formatting for printing. But Manga Studio 5 was on sale on Amazon last I saw for like $18 or something. Not sure if it still is, but it does a lot of the stuff photoshop does and a LOT of the stuff Sai does and it's totally worth making the switch and learning a new program. I think I've totally fallen in love with it now. The perspective rulers and the screen tones and the way it handles type just make my work flow go so much faster! You should try it out if you're looking for a good program.

The iPad is awesome but I've never been happy with any of the drawing apps it has. What apps do you use?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Micnic123 In reply to ParallelPenguins [2014-07-14 12:45:59 +0000 UTC]

I do nearly all of my work in Adobe Ideas. The problem is, it can't do gradients.

I heard sketch book is good but the free version is a bit limited.

However, the one I really want to try is Procreate, it's supposed to be really good.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ParallelPenguins In reply to Micnic123 [2014-07-14 16:45:18 +0000 UTC]

Yeah? Maybe I'll check them out. It would be nice to have something to sketch on when I am not at my computer. I frequently have to go visit family so it would be nice to be able to work digitally while I do because my scanner is titzed and I am tired of buying new ones every damned year.

I drawing on my ipad during my free time. However be warned that you'll tend to attract a crowd Β when drawing in public.Β

ParallelPenguins In reply to Micnic123 [2014-07-14 19:11:49 +0000 UTC]

LOL! I take my sketchbook every where as it is and so far no crowd. Occasionally people peek over my shoulder but it's been years and no crowd. *shrug*

Micnic123 In reply to ParallelPenguins [2014-07-14 20:17:12 +0000 UTC]

Where I'm from, art is not really done digitally. So sometimes people are like "what's that you're doing?" or "what kind of pencil is that? (Meaning my stylus)" especially older people.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ParallelPenguins In reply to Micnic123 [2014-07-15 01:12:10 +0000 UTC]

Ah. Yeah. I've taken my laptop and tablet out before to draw with friends in places that have open free power outlets, but still no crowds. I think it's because here you generally don't interrupt some one when they're doing stuff and you don't know them. *shrug* At least that's the feeling I get.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Micnic123 In reply to ParallelPenguins [2014-07-15 02:38:11 +0000 UTC]

I guess everybody is different but tell you get the " what are you doing?" from your family when your drawingΒ

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ParallelPenguins In reply to Micnic123 [2014-07-15 17:27:00 +0000 UTC]

I used to, not so much now. Now I just get interrupted to go and visit when I have just started drawing. I'll have just sat down and started trying to get my tablet to work (I always have to re-install the damned driver argh! Why the hell can't wacom make a driver that ISN'T a pain in the ass?!) when I get a text "Whatchadoin?" and then right after another "Can you walk over for a visit?" every damned day! >_<Β

ParallelPenguins In reply to Micnic123 [2014-07-15 22:48:41 +0000 UTC]

Oi yeah. >_< I don't know why but it's so hard to sell art. I mean even at prices that effectively pay me less then minimum wage for my work people here still tell me it's too much. I mean... what the hell? $5 for a print that's 8.5X11 is pretty good. I'd pay that. I know they got other art they wanna buy too, but that price is still less then the other tables at the art show. >_< Argh.

But you probably don't wanna hear complaints. How're things going for you?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Micnic123 In reply to ParallelPenguins [2014-07-16 02:40:36 +0000 UTC]

Well for me, I'm trying to develope my skill to point where I can sell my art but until then, I'm just learning as time goes on

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ParallelPenguins In reply to Micnic123 [2014-07-16 19:19:38 +0000 UTC]

I don't know if skill is really the most important thing for selling art. I think salesmanship and having stuff people might like is more important. I mean skill is still important, it's just not the most important part. *shrug*

I really like penguins, and alliteration is kind of fun. The whole thing is Parallel Penguins And Perpendicular Pugs. I'm not so good at math but I always loved those terms. Also my avatar is two penguins, one green and one blue and they are lying parallel to each other, even though one is upside down. *shrug* I just kind of like it. ^_^
