I hope so, too! Thus far there's been very detailed and thorough critique given out so I think it's promising and I plan on patrolling constantly to catch any critique that might be too harsh or vague to be considered positive and helpful. I do wish that dA let me see the manips that went through without any comment, though, hate that it only shows me them if there were comments. >.>
I feel ya on the tough comments. I recently submitted my latest human manip, called Talen, to a human photomanipulation group and got told "Rejecting because it's not quality." It was also apparently a one-vote system so there were no other comments made. I was like.. but.. ohkay, fine, I understand you dislike it but can you at least say WHAT is not quality? I mean my goodness!
I personally plan on keeping a very close eye on members and looking for who seems ready for it, for sure. What I mainly do is look through the gallery and see if there are some pieces I think could make it into our Quality Manips folder without too much to no problem. I've already suggested a few members go for contributor, though I suppose I can't give promises since 3 people have to vote, not just me. BUT! Looking at your gallery now, I definitely think you should give it a try. Your level is above a few of the Contributors we already have and some of your pieces, for example I'm looking at Zephyr, I would personally accept if it was submitted.

well I think it's really nice what you are doing I think it belong to one of the most important aspects of a group and it is sad to see almost no group actually give quality critique. It is a lot of work for you, but I am sure you will get loads of support from contributors.
Yeah people can be so harsh x.x And your manipulation looks really good IMO. I feel like people just decline because they don't like the style. For instance, I have been told my eyes are "too bright lit" in comparison to the background. They see it as unreal though the way I make my eyes is a keypoint of recognizing my art. People often say. Try to do it like -insert popular manip artist names here-, which is feel is really unfair because it takes away a lot of the freedom of creativity.
I feel a bit hesitant of joining groups lately but you seem like a really nice girl and very enthusiastic. I have no doubt you will keep an eye on everything so I think I will try to join for contributor. Thank you <3

I hope so! We definitely have a few stepping up to the place very nicely so I'm pretty excited.
Thank you! And I agree completely on the points of style. I have had to make a few corrections critique-wise because stylistic choices are mentioned as negative but I haven't let them slip through yet so maybe I can make a good atmosphere that simply learns to avoid critiquing style. As a stylized artist myself, I'm pretty used to being told things like you just said. Too bright eyes, too perfect hair, body too smooth, the glowing body is too bright? Odd things like that. I've never personally gotten a critique comparing me to another artist (like telling me to be more like them) but I'm pretty sure I'd get pissy if someone tried that. o.O Art is designed to be self-expression, not another-artist-expression, what the poop. Completely outrageous.
Actually I'm a boy! But thank you very much and indeed I will make sure if any critique is incorrect, too harsh, or too vague it receives a comment from me! I can't promise it won't happen because I can't control others but I can promise it'll get commented on to make sure it doesn't happen again. (; You're welcome!

Agreed! But some people feel like everyone wants/should make art that looks like the popular artist's work because they are popular. I make manipulations because I try to make a certain feeling appear in an image ;3
And that's awesome! Disadvantage of internet, can't see who I am talking to xD

Popularity doesn't mean good art to me, though it's undeniable that the popular artist's work do tend to have fantastic art. To me, popularity means that, chances are, they are popular on an RPG somewhere or they have a lot of friends on the site, not that their art is the very standard for quality and should be followed religiously. I don't think anyone is to that level, honestly. I mean.. the whole point of being an artist is being different, exercising self-expression, painting the world how you see it and want it and like it. I mean, think of Bob Ross (I love that hippie painter) and his constant "Do what you want, don't copy me" attitude. That's what people should really focus on. LOOKAT ME RAMBLE!
Quite true ;D Doesn't bother me at all haha very few people get my gender right without me saying it so it's no problem to me at all.
