brilliant gallery. The landscapes are the kinda level im aiming for although the PS work does show through sometimes. Um, digital or film as many have a grainy elemnt to them?

Thanks for the feedback . I'm still working on making my post-processing look better... can you believe how great Ansel Adams' landscape work looked, even knowing that he did tons and tons of "post-procesing" through dodging and burning? I'd love to one day have that kind of control.

Digital. But often I add grain in post processing. Personal preference.

i think where ur ps show is in the burning. do u use curve layers combined with masks? i use these most of the time. also "saint" ansels work is great but ithink i need to se an orig print as i get the feeling the reprints arent up to what they could be.
check my Snowdonia series in my gallery. theywere inspired by his work

Yeah, in the dodging and burning I use curves all of the time. Curves and masks. Still working on improving!

oh, ok. do you use gaussian blur on your masks. I find that helps to merge the 2 exposures better

Actually, I hadn't thought of that! I will apply that next time and see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestion man!

sorcrs -

Thank you for the kind words! But, remember that if you resign yourself to the idea that "you can never take" good pictures, then it's really just self-fulfilling prophecy. Go out there and learn the craft from the ground up, that's the only way to do it. People seem to like my work but I must remind them that I spent two or three years of my photography taking photos of doritoes bags, water fountains, and cups. This is not to say that doritoes bags, water fountains, and cups lack artistic merit - simply that it takes time for you to flesh out what you're looking for in photography, and while it's easy to get intimidated by photographers who have the experience, it's important to always keep your own goals in mind.

When I see some of the work of other DA'ers on this forum, I almost wanna smack myself in the head that I hadn't thought of looking at things the way they do. But that's the difference: you gotta look at the work of the people that inspire you and really try and understand what about their work makes it special, and how you can incorporate those elements into your own work.

You never know until you try, and if you fail, try harder... I took up photography when I saw my aunt's works of children and her travels. She's not a pro, but almost everything she's shown me looked like they belonged in National Geographic issues.
I bought my first camera 4 months ago and never looked back and to think, I've studied drawing and painting since I was 3 and used to say "Photography is for peope who can't draw", I now take that back and embrace the new world that awaits me

O_O ...Yea. I'm...a dancer. Hahahahaha...

My friend's still got my camera. Think I should bug him for it? *sigh* But I feel bad...he really hasn't had the time to get out and play around with it...

chinesestunna In reply to sorcrs [2005-05-26 02:01:02 +0000 UTC]

If he's not using it, tell him to stop hogging it and take it back

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sorcrs In reply to chinesestunna [2005-05-26 02:58:46 +0000 UTC]

Lol...well see, I told him I'd let him play around with it...because all he's got right now is his cell phone camera (he broke his digi on accident...and it wasn't that great to begin with). So as of right now, he's got all of my filters, my film (well ok...about HALF of my film), and of course, the camera. I already told him that if he messes something up (including getting dust in weird places or the horribly dreaded scratched lens) his balls are mine (I'm a liiiiiiiiiiittle bit violent when I'm pissed). So. I'll let him keep it for another half a week, and then it's back to me!!!!!!!

chinesestunna In reply to sorcrs [2005-05-26 04:27:26 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, dust in weird places be VERY thankful for a film camera in this case - I'm currently on a crusade with dust on my DX sensor right now... it's an uphill battle where the stakes are the life of the $700 sensor vs. quality pictures

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

sorcrs In reply to chinesestunna [2005-05-26 20:27:15 +0000 UTC]

O_o Ewwwwwww...Good luck with that!!!!! ...$700?!?! Yeaaaa just a biiiiiiit out of my price range...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

chinesestunna In reply to sorcrs [2005-05-26 20:47:20 +0000 UTC]

Well, it's $700 if I botch any of the cleaning operations that I conduct... so I'm being super careful. I like how you and I sort of hijacked dchui's frontpage, I hope he doesn't mind

chinesestunna In reply to dchui [2005-05-26 15:07:26 +0000 UTC]

Yea, I have one but I had some really icky stuff that got on there that even the sensor brush couldn't get off. I had to resort to a wet cleaning method with some chemicals which left some residue, so I'm still working on that.

I saw some of your photos at Fred Miranda under an 85mm 1.8 thread, liked your work, so I went to your website. Then I realized that I had seen your work somewhere before so I thought it was deviantART. So I searched on your name and here you are!

All that to say that I really like your work...great job!
