Thank you for your comment. That was my first real attempt at drawing with oil pastels, and it was a really fun experience, so hopefully it's fun for you as well. Be sure to post your drawing when you finish it, because I'd love to take a look.

i bought some and some manila drawing paper, but it wasn't working. I don't really get how to use them I have this really good picture of a geisha and i wanted to use them.

The main thing with oil pastels is drawing in tones, not lines, and blending the tones until you reach the desired result. They can also be layered if it is a darker color on top, as long as you don't lift too much of the pastel off of the paper while blending it. I recommend either a tissue or just the good old finger for blending, depending on the texture of paper. I found the best way to become familiar with them was to just draw a quick picture without reference, and just try to create the picture with a range of colors and tones, then move on to rendering a picture. Good luck, and most importantly, stick with it. What is art if you are actually fully satisfied with something you've done?
