Thanks for your help.
I like real life looking things. Even if they are: Legends, myths, fantasy, i like realistic materials.
I'm busy with 3d max.

Hey.
Can I ask why this wasn't accepted?

I'm pretty sure I submitted it to the right folder in the gallery.

I'd say that one is almost borderline. I didn't vote on that one personally, so I can't say why those that did vote, specifically, turned it down. I probably would have voted no though, simply because it's JUST a head and nothing more. Not even a full 'bust', but just a floating head. Professional presentation is one of the criteria we have for the approval process, which means texturing, lighting and rendering quality is also taken into account if the model itself is a little on the simple side. Being just a head doesn't necessarily instantly get something a 'no' but if if IS just a head, then the textures, lighting, and general presentation would have to be real pro quality, making it harder to get a simpler model in.

I understand what you're saying, but thats somewhat disheartening, considering the lack of resources I have.
I can attempt a bust, but the lighting, texture and rendering will be the same as the rejected peice, due to limitations of my 3D software.

I did vote on this, and for me personally it was singularly a no based on it being a floating head. It is a part of composition that you never want to cut a shot off at a joint.
The rest looks ok, though it could use some work (for example a spec map so it doesn't look strangely all over wet).
I do hope you can take these critiques and grow, that is what they are here for It seems like you are on the right track, just needs a little bit more for the creature gallery

I understand.
Like I said to the other person, I have a lack of resources, so it won't end up looking photo realistic or resembling something that someone could make in a £1K program.
I've already started working on a body now.

I hadn't even thought of this till I saw it mentioned, but if you are finding limitations with the software you have, you may want to try Blender. It is free, and a lot like Maya. (Buttons are just placed a little differently). (It has been used for animated shorts and such as well, so it can do it)
Can't wait to see the body through,

question. why cant i submit any work to the group?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Athey In reply to jermainewiire [2012-02-28 06:25:50 +0000 UTC]
The group has pretty high standards for acceptance. Single unfinished and untextured objects aren't usually allowed in - granted, that seems like the sort of thing that would get into the WIP or critique categories, but even with that category we tend to be pretty hesitant to let just anything in. Your last submission was a very hard choice because it was very borderline. I would want it to be slightly more polished to allow something that is *just* a shirt to get through.

There are three pro 3D programs offered for free at the moment (until 29th Feb)! I've made a journal about it here
Not sure if you want to tell your members ^^

Hey guys!
We've just started a group where 3D designers can duel each other in a competition format!
It's right here : [link]
It's pretty simple,if you're a 3D designer,ask to join as member,if you just wanna stay tuned,join as watchers!
First round will be held as soon as we have enough people to form a jury and hold a decently sized challenge. People will be randomly assigned a number and duel in a week-time to produce a 3D model/render of a precise object (we don't do "soft stuff").
Then the jury will choose a winner for each duel, and it's up for the next tier! till we get First, scnd and third place which will be featured.
Right now it's really empty (it's 1hour old ) but I've got confidence it'll grow into a big community challenge with DA Staff and pretty hardcore 3D artists's support.
See you on the grid!!
Jay

it's more like an invitation to all 3D modellers on DA,when you think about it,talking about groups on other groups is the only way of getting the message delivered

May I know why my image [link] was declined? I modeled everything myself (both ship and background - nothing is from stock). Is it because it contains 2D elements? Can only pure 3D images be submitted to this group? Would be good to know for future submission. Thanks.

Does anyone know of a place that I can make a simple low poly request of a 3d model?
Or does anyone know where I can get a 3d .obj model of a Corgi ([link] )?

can try the 3d art forums here on deviantart, though it takes a while for someone to reply. There's a few places online where you can buy models but since this is a 3d modeling group I don't think I should suggest that lol.

i have a question about UVW mapping, although the answer probably more depends on personal preferance
anywho whats better:
1). seemless texture mapping
2). consistant sized mapping
3). other (comment)
GO!

Whispyyr In reply to Affet-kak [2012-02-10 14:20:17 +0000 UTC]
There is no "Better" option for UV's for Textures. There is tradeoffs.
It is impossible to get a 100% seamless model without having overlapping UV's. Which is bad. What is important here is to place your seems smartly for textures in places where it will be either "hidden" (inseam of leg) or be less noticeable.
Consistent sized mapping is a must. In the sense that if you place a checker (or colored squares there is many variations) texture on the model, the squares of all the different pieces(We are doing some seams to eliminate overlapping and weirdness) are a similar size (texel density), and they appear to remain squares on the model (means there is minimal stretching.). Organic models will have a harder time remaining square, while hard surface it is relatively easy to get it to square up.
Hope this helped.

ok thats kinda what i thought
although i thought it would be ok to have larger textures in the more important/most visible areas
hmm ok thank you

Whispyyr In reply to Affet-kak [2012-02-10 23:18:29 +0000 UTC]
That depends on the usage of it. If it is being rendered for a sequence where you will only ever see see, the side of a couch. Then it would be ok. But most times we move all the way around the object/character and the difference in detail will become apparent / look like bad work.

should be in our folders now, sometimes things take a bit longer especially when sometimes people submit a lot of pieces at once (different people) submissions get pushed back.
should be good to go now!
