Draslushee In reply to ??? [2009-04-23 22:30:41 +0000 UTC]
Holy crap, I thought of this EXACT same idea earlier today. The only difference is that I wanted to phrase it:
"NO ITEMS
FALCON PUNCH ONLY
FINAL DESTINATION."

Another good one along the same lines is knee jousting. Here's how it works:
Super Sudden Death
No itemms
t3h kn33 Only
FINAL DESTINATION

I'm getting close to unlocking all the Trial maps in Days of Ruin. And I gotta say, I'm surprised at how effective my tactics can be every so often. I managed to clear Comb Map with 105 Speed, 118 Power, and 150 Technique.
I even managed to capture two HQs in the same turn using a strategy I simply dubbed "Operation: This Plan Will Kick Everyone's A**."

Comb map? I don't think I've done that one. I haven't had the patience for any of the 3 or 4 player maps. . .

It's quite interesting. All your opponents have a lot of pre-deployed units, and you have just a few. Plus, one of the enemy COs is Caulder.
Everyone's on a separate team, though, so the AI COs wind up fighting amongst themselves a lot.

Blanke In reply to Draslushee [2009-04-19 22:20:07 +0000 UTC]
Oh yeah. I just unlocked that one today. I've unlocked all but 22 and 32-whatever number the first trial map is. That one really doesn't look too bad, because the economies of all 3 goons looks pretty crappy. And coms tend to fight each other.
I was having a lot of trouble with Land's End the first couple of times, but then it was really easy once I started trolling all of Will's infantry with a recon. He never managed to capture that one factory in the middle. It wasn't long until the Great Wall of Meatshields sent him crying for mommy. (Didn't help that he liked wasting his money on a Fighter when 3 anti-airs for the same price would've been a lot scarier. )

Draslushee In reply to Blanke [2009-04-19 22:22:41 +0000 UTC]
Ah, Land's End was fun. I was actually able to make beautiful use of Tasha's CO Zone. A Bomber in that zone could take out an Anti-Air in one hit, regardless of terrain. Needless to say, this put a giant hole in Will's plans.
And of course, I put Tasha into a Medium Tank instead of an actual Bomber. This way, it would take a lot more than a fluke Anti-Air or Missile strike to eliminate the CO Zone.

I've been getting a lot of smart use out of Lin's CO zone lately, too. Sure, it only works on adjacents at first, but you can work with Gage artilery and Will tanks, both with Brenner defenses. She's like the Kanbei of Days of Ruin.
I almost never use MD tanks, in case you didn't notice from our battles so far. . . Unless I have a lot of money and have to replace my CO unit. Then they're pretty nice. (They aren't durable enough without one. 2 tanks can neuter it if you get the first strike, and if you can't get the first strike, that's what artillery are for. )

I happened to have a good bit of money on this map... as evidenced by my invincible Bomber squadron of death.

Blanke In reply to Draslushee [2009-04-19 22:48:18 +0000 UTC]
That's not too surprising. You actually get a lot more property on your side then he starts out with. As long as he doesn't get that one factory, it's near impossible for him to get anywhere near your territory.
Another map I really liked was Destiny Ocean. That's the first time I actually used Greyfield, but it was fun chomping up all of Lin's landers with a swarm of gunboats. It was just like a pack of sharks. It's pretty hard to keep up with a fat, salty old sea dog when you're just a landlubber. (She never even got the chance to afford a sub, let alone a cruiser. )

Gotta love the good ol' ROFLboats. Seems like Intelligent Systems actually made an effort to get really creative with units this time around... really, the concept of a unit that only gets ONE shot fascinates me.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Blanke In reply to Draslushee [2009-04-20 00:01:36 +0000 UTC]
On the contrary. You can shoot as many times as you want with those Party Boats if you bring it back to a port. (It works with the temporary ones too, so Rigs are useful for this. ) If you have enough Party Boats in the water, you can usually attack in waves. (LOL Boats + waves. ) It won't take more than 2 shots to sink a Lander.
I also like turning T Copters into ROFLcopters. If you put your CO in a T copter, you have a meat shield that'll survive an Anti-Air attack and last for 2 turns if you use it in a bottleneck. In that time, you've already captured the HQ on Eon Cove, since the AI is dumb.
Also, just for the heck of it, you should try using Caulder on a really small map. Put him in a regular old infantry, march him straight to the HQ, and watch as the CPU fails to kill him.

Blanke In reply to Draslushee [2009-04-20 00:28:37 +0000 UTC]
Caulder Mech Spam is fun too.
Oh, and it turns out we could actually do co-op stuff online, too. You can select 3P and 4P maps, but they pit you against coms for the other two armies. (And you could control the teams, too. ) I thought it might be cool to do something like the final chapter in Advance Wars 1 or 2; just a huge map where 2 armies have to team up against a huge one with an overpowered CO like Sturm or Caulder.
I just wish the game had a green army. The yellow army in this game just sticks out like a sore thumb against the darker palette.

Draslushee In reply to Blanke [2009-04-20 15:56:55 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I did. Can't remember exactly how I did it, though. But it probably involved using Recon units to keep the computer's grubby mitts off some of the farther-away cities.

Draslushee In reply to Blanke [2009-04-20 19:13:32 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I really don't know where they got that strategy. It's way too far for Infantry to really get there quick enough, and the many trees won't let you get any reinforcements there in a decent amount of time.
You can, however, make plenty of makeshift bottlenecks with clever use of Infantry, Mechs, and Tanks. The same trees that keep you from putting out a steady stream of reinforcements can also form a nice little roadblock to keep Tanks away from your Artillery.

Blanke In reply to Draslushee [2009-04-23 00:53:08 +0000 UTC]
Never mind. I got it now. Eventually I just got the faq strategy to work. (Hey, I can use one now and then, after S ranking plenty other trial maps without it. )
I only have to beat 3 more trial maps, and they're all multiplayer.

Blanke In reply to Draslushee [2009-04-20 23:42:50 +0000 UTC]
I see. This map really makes Blanke unhappy. You can match the CPU city for city and he'll still always be building units a step up from yours. (Now that wouldn't be a problem if it was a big map. I'll take on a War Tank over a Tank and an Artillery any day. But when he can build a tank every day while you're just trying to capture cities... )
If I can beat it, I'll have all the trial maps unlocked, though.

I am busy designing environment (City drawing) for my project as well as assignments for my manga class to ask me to do 3 characters of my choice and to plan out their design and concept arts. Damn, I am fully occupied thanks to the lecturer's announcement:
The beginning of a new term for my class. And it's going to be a harsh and thorny path for me to go if I am to be serious about my works for now on.
