Nah, seriously - I just decied to quit discussion of ROTF online, because all I'm seeing is a lot of negativity. It seems like those folks who speak up about the good points are being aggressively smacked down, which is just not cool.
Always amazes me how just a few posters on chat forums have that stupid, childish need to be right about things all the time, to the point of denying others an opinion.
That's what you've been missing out on.

Wise policy.
I try to say my piece in those things, and then stick around for a bit of discussion. But when you get to a place where folks are telling other folks that they're stupid for disagreeing with them, it gets ridiculous. You just can't argue personal opinion and preference.

Oh ho ho! Not even touching that one with a ten foot pole!
Mind you, some of the debates I see about the issues of canonicity and continuity really make me smile. There's been plenty of times where I've read something in a foruma nd thought 'wow - I better check that! That completely changes my understanding of that whole chain of events!'
And guess what? When I do check, it looks as if all that wrangling about a particular point is either open to interpretation, or simply down to a rabid fanboy who hasn't been paying attention to the plot. D'oh!

Yep. What really gets my goat is that IDW is a relaunch, so past cannon has nothing to do with it.

Ah, but what a reboot!
I discovered the Infiltration trade completely by accident. I was in my local book shop and some fool had stuck it on the shelf with the Philip K. Dick. Curiosity got the better of me. I leafed through it, saw E.J. Su's amazing artwork and bought it immediately. I've not missed a trade since. I absolutely love this new incarnation of the robots in disguise!

Same here accept it was with escalation.

hde2009 In reply to CrazyLogic [2009-07-04 11:36:20 +0000 UTC]
Nyahahaa! The cover to Escalation is my laptop's wallpaper image!
I wasn't *quite* as keen on Escalation, as solid as it was. I thought Stormbringer was a solid follow up to Infiltration, Devastation was quite a ride when read as a trade, and in spite of the issues with brevity and a very busy storyline, I really, really enjoyed Revelation. The spotlights have been of varying quality, but miostly all good in my opinion.
What did you think of Megatron Origin? I never understood why some people had such a strong reaction against it. I bought the trade and thought it was one of the most weighty Transformers tales in IDW's catalogue. It certainly left an impression on me!

I'm neutral on M. But I don't understand why people hate it so much.
I liked Stormbringer better than Escalation too, it's just that Escalation was the first TBP I stumbled across.

Bizarre, isn't it, how some fans rail against a book for no apparently founded reason?
I think, with Megatron Origin, it definitely helps if you get all the references that are being made to our own history. There's a definite 'Empire of Rome' allegory going on there. And Alex Milne gave the book a pretty epic, cinematic look in places. I always tell folks that the final page of Megatron Origin is my favourite Transformers comic book image ever. It really underscores the ending of that book.
Yup - I just got my geek on!

Personally, it was a good story, I just didn't care for it.
In an act of shameless self promotion, have you checked out the fanfiction contest on the boards, I entered this time around and I want to see what you think.

I haz red it!
You had a pretty good set-up there! Premise in genre fiction is everything.
I like the way you fleshed out the alien girl, and steered the story in an unexpected direction. Keep it up!
I really wish the writing competitions over on those boards didn't have such a stringent word limit. Some of the writers there have excellent ideas, but there just isn't enough room for them to play with turns of phrase and exposition.
Dang it.

Goferrit!
There's a wide open gap in the Transformers fandom where some well-written prose stories ought to be. See where the story takes you.

I'm starting to get into Marvel, so I might join the boards there.
Speaking of Marvel (which I thin you read), do you think Deadpool should break the fourth wall in his spinoff. Personally I think it should be subtle enough that you only notice it if you look for it. Maybe with a wink or two towards the camera.

hde2009 In reply to CrazyLogic [2009-06-05 02:12:16 +0000 UTC]
Ooh, such an off beam assumption!
I'm possibly the harshest critic of Marvel comics around! Not wanting to go into swathes of detail here, but there's very little of their output that I would actually read. they just seem to cater to an audience that... isn't me .
Of course, I've no issue with people who enjoy what they do. We all gotta read what we want to read at the end of the day.
My only knowledge of Deadpool comes fromhis brief appearance in the new Wolverine movie. Hardly a great representation of him, as far as I can gather.

It was more his final look and new powers that caused the outcry. He cant be the Merc With a Mouth without a mouth, if you know what I mean.
Other than that he was great in my opinion.
P.S.
Sorry, I must of confused you for someone else. But from I gather, you'd like a character like Deadpool, he's 100 barrels of laughs. Just read his top seventy moments if you arent sure,

Hey, no worries. I get that all the time. Must be why random forum users have been net-slapping me so much lately!
For me, the fun part of Deadpool in the Wolverine movie were the early scenes with Ryan Reynolds. I think he makes for great comic relief in a movie, and he also has enough edge to be taken seriously.
Right now i'm more hyped up about terminator Salvation. I saw it last night, expect nothing and reaped many joyous rewards. It's an absolutely fantastic action movie!
