I think the games are pretty much the third sequel, Melee is the first sequel and Brawl is the second. The N64 is the original. The new games are the first multi-platformed in the series.

Pretty good. There's like a freaking difference of the com level depending on what controllers I use; if I use the Wiimote, they can take it a little bit easy. The GameCube controller, on the other hand, they are intelligent, they attack fast enough that you probably won't react fast enough, you pretty much have little time to dodge their attacks if you don't know what you're doing, they get the Smash Ball quickly sometimes and they'll grant you no mercy.
