Is that panada supposed to be dancing, cause if it is, then that panda's skills are weak. It should be dancing like my boy Naruto

I hear you, by the way is there any thing you like to draw in particular like anime, movies or whatever

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ParallelPenguins In reply to Micnic123 [2014-07-18 19:38:26 +0000 UTC]

I like to draw just about anything. Movies, anime, shows, cartoons, what ever. It just depends on whether I like the thing or not, or if some one wants me to draw it. I like to draw people more then anything else, but that doesn't mean I won't draw animals or non-living things.  What about you?

Micnic123 In reply to ParallelPenguins [2014-07-18 20:10:04 +0000 UTC]

I guess me and you are in the same boat, I'll draw pretty much anything but I prefer to draw anime or anything with powers. I like to draw humans but my animal skills are a bit lacking.

Are a reference artist or straight from the head kind. Just asking

ParallelPenguins In reply to Micnic123 [2014-07-18 21:00:28 +0000 UTC]

Well if I know what I'm drawing like the back of my hand and I've drawn it before then I don't usually need reference for it unless I am drawing an odd pose or something, but I'm not afraid to use reference. Some times it's good to see the pose or have a picture of the character to make sure you get the details as close to perfect as you can. Other times I just have NO idea what something looks like and I need to see a photo or I'm gonna screw it up so badly it won't even be funny. What about you?

Micnic123 In reply to ParallelPenguins [2014-07-18 23:27:46 +0000 UTC]

Unless I'm doing OCs, I use references all the time. When I want to try out a new pose, light and shading EGs or getting facial features as accurate as possible when doing fanart.

cause we all know when you're doing fanart and you screw up the face, boy that bugs me trying to correct it. Man

Oh yeah! That's why I love the flip function. It's so helpful in seeing what I don't initially notice. If the OC isn't mine or one I know REALLY well then I still need ref.

I agree, the  flip function ? is that paint tool sai ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ParallelPenguins In reply to Micnic123 [2014-07-22 05:24:56 +0000 UTC]

Sai, Manga Studio, and PhotoShop having. I bet Painter has it. Just about every art program should have it. It flips your image so it's a mirror-ed version and then if you hit it again it flips it back.

Are you a full time artist (free lance) or do you have another job

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ParallelPenguins In reply to Micnic123 [2014-07-23 04:26:37 +0000 UTC]

I don't have a day job, so I guess you could say I'm a full time artist. I'm not making ends meet just yet though, but my husband makes enough to keep a roof over our heads so at least I have that. I'm trying to be the kind of artist that always has work that pays, but I got a way to go before I get there I think. The business seems hard to break into, any art business. *sigh* I'll get there.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Micnic123 In reply to ParallelPenguins [2014-07-23 14:35:27 +0000 UTC]

I think every artist strives to be the artist that get pays the "big bucks". I do think though, that being an artist puts a strain on a family

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ParallelPenguins In reply to Micnic123 [2014-07-23 22:21:30 +0000 UTC]

So far it hasn't put any strain on my family. My Mom is a writer and poet so I grew up with creativity, and my husband is very supportive. He likes that he's able to "bring home the bacon" because when I DID have a day job I was making more then he was at the time and he felt bad about that. *shrug* I get to draw so that makes me happy enough.

Micnic123 In reply to ParallelPenguins [2014-07-24 03:55:01 +0000 UTC]

That may be good for you, but  where I'm from, at least in my opinion , the culture is totally different, an artist is not seen as a ideal career path. Also art is seen a traditional medium more so than a digital medium.

Anyways I would like to change that view and show that great art can also be archived using a digital medium

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ParallelPenguins In reply to Micnic123 [2014-07-25 04:54:15 +0000 UTC]

Oh it's not an ideal career path here either, but I gotta follow my heart.  I think digital art is becoming more popular. It's already the go-to for most things like gaming companies and the like, because it's much quicker to make changes.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Micnic123 In reply to ParallelPenguins [2014-07-25 14:28:09 +0000 UTC]

Is becoming more popular, especially when everyone is becoming more tech savy. Hopefully it will get the attention it deserves

ParallelPenguins In reply to Micnic123 [2014-07-30 02:38:59 +0000 UTC]

I love digital art. I love working digitally. CTRL Z is a life saver. It's so much better then sitting there with an eraser, or having to paint over something or redo a whole image.

Boy some people will be screwed without their keyboard shorts.   Those multi touch gestures on the ipad really help when I doing detailed work.

ParallelPenguins In reply to Micnic123 [2014-07-30 21:28:30 +0000 UTC]

Yeah? I like working with my tablet and keyboard more then on the ipad. The keyboard shortcuts are wonderful and I find programs on the ipad to be a bit fiddly, but I haven't tried the one you suggested yet.

Yea some app have pinch-to-zoo , two finger swipe to undo and redo, swipe down to bring down drop down menu, and some app like procreate have shortcuts.

ParallelPenguins In reply to Micnic123 [2014-08-06 22:35:05 +0000 UTC]

I mean if it were easier to just jump in and use the apps with out having to read a manual or use a walk through. If the apps were designed with thought for how people will use them. Lots of them aren't. That goes for any app though. My husband designs apps. This is a problem he has some times so he comes to me to ask if there's anything I immediately notice just as a general user that could be changed or is expected to be there.

I felt intimidated by Manga Studio when I first go it, but trial and error and tutorials helped. Actually, mostly tutorials.

Micnic123 In reply to ParallelPenguins [2014-08-22 15:07:44 +0000 UTC]

Yup a lot of tutorials, I'm still getting use to this "pixel stuff", I still prefer vector based applications

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Micnic123 In reply to ParallelPenguins [2014-08-23 22:52:49 +0000 UTC]

We'll adobe ideas makes it easier to use, the interface acts like a normal drawing app however each stroke, line, etc acts like a vector. Ensuring that the highest line work is out putted.

You get the best of both worlds,  lines that act like paint strokes with the sharpness of a vector.
