I know some, among others myself. =Nesmaty , =SimplySilent , `miontre , `CypherVisor ,  for example. When you browse the deviantART related CSS section you will stumble over a lot of deviants who do commissions.

How do get the drop-down what says the names of the journals (what is the HTML code)?

Thanks a ton!

The invisible cursor works fine for me with Chrome. The two zoom and the two grab cursors don't, though.

Got something that allows you to change the Journal icon at the top left? .gr-top img

make it invisible or try using another icon intead of the standard one. I usually make it invisible.

Hey there! I've been wondering if there's a significant difference between the older layout and the newer gruze layout for journals. Until fairly recently, I worked with the older layout since that was the one I learned from, but switching over to the newer layout, I couldn't really tell if there was an important difference.

Thanks

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

poserfan In reply to SimplySilent [2013-07-06 15:11:45 +0000 UTC]

gruze does have more classes and some elements are related differently to other elements than before. The base structure is identical and for simple layouts you won't see a real difference. The more complex the layout gets, you'll see gruze's advantages. You have more options to style the journal thru the extra classes, `GillianIvy puts them to good use. I haven't used gruze to it's fullest potential yet, but I switched to the new layout nonetheless and will update my remaining old ones slowly...

SimplySilent In reply to poserfan [2013-07-06 21:25:27 +0000 UTC]

Ok, that makes a lot of sense. Most of my journals are pretty simple, so I never really noticed the difference between the two layouts. Thanks for the explanation~

To be honest I don't know for sure, because I've never worked with the older layout. But I've heard from a lot of people that the newer layout offers a few more "layers" to work with, giving you more options as to what can be achieved. Take a look at this article by `GillianIvy , should explain it for you

SimplySilent In reply to miontre [2013-07-06 21:24:22 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the explanation. I knew it had gr-body as an extra layer, but I was just wondering if there was something important that I was missing.

No worries Did you see `im-not-sana 's tutorial on the author tags? I don't know if they can be used in the older system, so that could be another advantage.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SimplySilent In reply to miontre [2013-07-06 22:56:56 +0000 UTC]

Ooh, yes. I stalk the #CSS-DYK articles.

That is one advantage I really like. I wonder if it could be used for the PE articles... Those you had to modify with your icon, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

miontre In reply to SimplySilent [2013-07-06 23:39:36 +0000 UTC]

I was thinking about that! But then I realised that since the PE article deletes .gr-top, it wouldn't show up anyway. But to be honest, it's annoying that gr-top gets deleted because then you've got to put the title in manually I think I'll message Katy and see if we could do a bit of revamping.

SimplySilent In reply to miontre [2013-07-06 23:45:09 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the title bit has been annoying me. X.x I didn't take a very good look at the coding for that skin, but hopefully it can be done.

Hello!
I've been wanting to make my own Journal skin from a picture that Ive created in Photoshop, and with hours of research I still can't figure how to covert the image into CSS.
I would love some help!

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

poserfan In reply to Inkswell [2013-07-04 13:08:57 +0000 UTC]

You can't convert any image into CSS. CSS helps you to set the image as background and make other changes like fonts, colors, etc.

Happbee In reply to ??? [2013-06-27 12:16:20 +0000 UTC]

Hello hello!

I'm seeking some help. I've looked at several tutorials, but I'm struggling to find what I'm looking for.

The skin I'm working on in question is this:[link] The tutorial I used is this: [link]

Sorry it's a journal about my commissions. It is not my intent to advertise. It's just happens to be the journal I'm testing the skin on. >_<

The problem I'm running into is the comments link. I would like it at the bottom part of the cone. The tutorial says I can add padding, which I did, but it seems to be cause of the awkward empty space I'm having at the bottom of my journal. Is there a way to move the comments without getting that space?

I'd really like to get to the point where I can share the journal, but I'm a bit scared since I'm such a css newbie. It's all a bit overwhelming at the start, so I'm trying to have my best understanding before sharing.

Do you have any suggested CSS tutorials that explain all the options really well?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

poserfan In reply to Happbee [2013-06-28 16:54:45 +0000 UTC]

That tutorial uses the older journal format, I would try it with the new as it has more options for you to change.

miontre In reply to Happbee [2013-06-28 08:18:18 +0000 UTC]

It's looking really good

Did you get it working? Because on my screen it's in the bottom part of the cone. Or is that not where you wanted it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Happbee In reply to miontre [2013-06-28 18:23:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much!

And I must have worded poorly. My problem is the space it creates under the journal. It's like the padding I added to move the comments further down created an empty space under the bottom of the cone. The only way I can get rid of it is by removing the padding, and not having the comments where I would like them to be.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

miontre In reply to Happbee [2013-06-29 02:21:27 +0000 UTC]

And I would also suggest that you use the newer layout. Not blaming you of course, you weren't to know.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

miontre In reply to Happbee [2013-06-29 02:20:27 +0000 UTC]

Got it for you!

First, get rid of the padding, and then add these two lines:

display: block;
line-height: 164px;

Hope that works

A couple of days ago I was reading through some CSS guides and there was mention of lining up an image on one side and having text wrap around it- rather than having the image placed on a line with a big gap. I'm not sure how to describe it and have tried googling different descriptions for this but I'm not having any luck, can anyone point me in the right direction please?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

miontre In reply to SylenisCrafts [2013-06-22 03:36:31 +0000 UTC]

Try float: left;

(you can change left to right, whatever suits).

Hope that helps!

miontre In reply to SylenisCrafts [2013-06-23 08:55:45 +0000 UTC]

Just to make sure, was this for a journal or for a custom box?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SylenisCrafts In reply to miontre [2013-06-23 11:13:06 +0000 UTC]

It was for a journal
The journal is here: [link]
I'll admit I am pretty useless with css and coding. I used to fiddle with html as a kid but it's been a long time, so it took a lot of chopping and changing to get the float code in the right place, and then to close the float because the "No Comments" link kept coming up to the right side of the journal, but I managed it

if you'd like to see it, in the CSS box I put
.image1 {
float: left
}

and then in the actual journal:
< div class="image1" >
(this was the image code)< /div >
(this was the text) < /div >

Hi, I'm looking for a custom box code that could allow you to have your picture framed.
(similar to this guy [link] ,but free)

gillianivyart In reply to Championx91 [2013-06-20 07:23:28 +0000 UTC]

If you have a look through `CypherVisor 's custom box gallery, he has compiled many button styles, etc which could be used as a simple container to hold the images, however not as an image here.

There is no code for that, he would have used an image which resembles a picture frame
In other words, he took the image he wanted "framed", used some editing software like Photoshop or GIMP to put it in the frame, and then uploaded that image in Sta.sh or something, and then used this code to add it to his page:

<a href="link to deviation"><img src="link to image">a>

whats the code for a bar and when you hover over it, it shows something
something like to the bar that says hover here: [link]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gillianivyart In reply to qoaties [2013-06-20 07:19:07 +0000 UTC]

One of the easiest ways to code this would be using a list. The principle is pretty simple. The regular state of the section is hidden, then on hover, you show it. This is done via the "display" property.

HTML:

    Title of Hover List
  • List Item

So now you have a simple list with one list item. To hide the list item you would write it like this:

ul li{
display:none;
}

Then, when you hover the Title portion, you want the list to reappear.

ul:hover li{
display:block;
}

(can be any display property other than hidden or none)

If you want this to only effect a specific list, either put the list in it's own container DIV or name the list so it has it's own class:

    Title
  • List Item

or

    Title of Hover List
  • List Item

CSS:

ul.named li{
display:none;
}

or

.named ul li{
display:none;
}

There are several ways to do this, you do not always need to use a list, it just might be easiest. At least, that is my preferred method. I hope this helps you.
