Omg. SCAD is stupid expensive, but I'm sure you knew that. xD 36k a year for out of state for SCAD. And you don't get in-state tuition in Florida until you've lived in the state for 3 years (lots of friends who go to school in Florida).

i plan on applying for every scholarship as well as take out as many loans as need be. doesn't matter. i know i'll be able to get a decent job, plus i already have plenty saved up because of my grandpa. i'm not worried about tuition.

I didn't get so lucky to have help with people helping me pay for college. Main reason I'm going to Canada since it will be significantly
cheaper to go there than any US school after I get their equivalent of in-state tuition. (5k or less a year in tuition, hellaaaa.)

for me it's also the quality of the school i'm going to. i don't really want to go to college, but i know that getting a degree from a well known art college will actually make future employers take a look at my portfolio. from what i saw, there aren't that many well known art specific colleges in canada, unless you count the art institutes (which are absolutely terrible).

Yeah. :c I'm no longer going to college for art because art is SUCH a finicky market. Not to mention I have a TERRIBLE
tracke record with art professors/teachers. For whatever reason, they absolutely HATE me. I guess never be better
than the person who is trying to teach you art? I don't know, but eugh. I really love art. I'm just sad that I don't have
the funds to go someplace that might have teachers that would support me instead of fail me at every chance they
get. :c

you aren't better than someone qualified to teach you art. i don't mean technically, of course. i don't know what your previous art teacher's portfolios contained. but they are better than you, because they are QUALIFIED to teach you. they know better processes and of better techniques. they can teach you how to access certain things that you wouldn't be able to access on your own.

I don't know, I would go to them for help and they wouldn't have the answer.
Just because they're qualified to teach someone doesn't necessarily mean that
they have any answers or experience that would help someone who is at a
higher caliber than her peers.
I, personally, did a lot more research on my own to figure things out that my art
teachers couldn't tell me or wouldn't tell me for varying reasons. I love learning
and asking questions to get the most out of what I need for an assignment and
my art teachers/professors could never deliver what I needed to boost my art skill.
They offered some insight to different techniques, but nothing beyond what I had
already learned in studying on my own before going to art school. Things went a
smidge bit more in-depth (I learned a lot more about perspective and proportions)
from my art classes, but the techniques they were teaching me were the same ones
I'd been taught in middle/high school that I had taken and improved upon and it was a bit
depressing that I couldn't get anything out of my classes that I was having the school
pay a lot of money for (scholarship). I knew more about Photoshop than my art and
photo professors and I know they took extensive classes in it because they told us
about it at the beginning of class.

;;;;; i just really don't know what to tell you. i mean, i've been better than a few of my art teachers in a technical sense, but i never really thought i was better than them because 1) they've been doing it longer than i have and 2) they're qualified to teach me. regardless of whether or not i learned anything from them, i've still considered them "better" than me. they have seniority over me.
when i didn't learn anything from them, i learned on my own, just like you. instead of thinking i had a teacher or professor who sucked, i thought of it as i had a teacher or professor who saw that i AM capable of learning on my own, so they made it to where i HAD to learn on my own or fall behind.
i'm not going to have a professor or teacher forever, and one day i'll have no choice to learn it on me own.
idk that's just my perspective of the whole "better than your teacher" deal.

I dunno. I know that they had been doing it longer than me so they knew more than me
but then they would purposely fail me in class or ignore me to the point that I had to get
friends to ask the questions for me. I'd even physically approach the teacher after class
and they would just stand there and ignore me or go about what they were doing. Even
if they had looked up to see me in the doorway or within arm's reach of them or not. Then
again, it probably had something to do with me not going to an art college or what not so
that might be part of my problem. ;^;
I just haven't had good experiences and it's made me a little jaded. I wish I could be a bit
more optimistic about it and see it as a "learning experience" sort of dealio, but it doesn't
come off like that when the teacher would purposely fail me on assignments when they
were passing kids who weren't even doing the assignments like the assignment sheet told
them to.
Just... Lots of bad experiences that were bothwithin and well out of my control. I do the best
I can, but some times that's not good enough for some professors even when you don't sleep
for days on end to get the assignment right and try your best to get help. It just happens, but
doesn't mean it's any easier to deal with. :c

i've heard spills like this all the time and to me, it just sounds like people are trying to make excuses and blame their teachers instead of taking responsibility for themselves.
i don't really like hearing it.
i know that it's always possible to get a bad teacher, but if you're gonna say that every single teacher you've had has done this, then it's hard for me to believe you, y'know?
teachers don't want you to fail. they want you to succeed. that's why they're teachers. teachers make hardly any fucking money. it's one of the worst jobs in the fucking world. why would someone become a teacher if they're just gonna have a shitty paying job with ridiculous hours? because they fucking love teaching. teachers have it hard enough. don't blame them for something that is more than likely not their fault.
