Wow John, those spaceships are *#!@ing amazing, especially the 40" one, the detail is reminiscent of starwars, they would not be out of place on George Lucas' set....
Iv'e put both links in my Journal, keep up the good work...and I cant wait to see what it is that you are working on.....

ivanjs In reply to Duck-Star [2005-04-14 17:20:28 +0000 UTC]
Thanks, man, yeah, I'm definitely a Star Wars inspired modeler (though the design of both ships is my own). I LOVE detail on the outside of ships like that, instead of the smooth ships of Star Trek (though I have a passion for the Klingon D7).
Funny thing is, I sort of do the same thing in many of my paintings, pottery and drawings-the detail thing I mean. Just looked at my Spirit Vessel 2 and noticed the detail on that sort of looks like scratchbuilding with clay. Hmmm... perhaps a connection....

Duck-Star In reply to ivanjs [2005-04-16 11:02:31 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it must take you ages to get that kind of detail on them, how long did it take to build the 24" and 40" models ?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ivanjs In reply to Duck-Star [2005-04-16 12:45:34 +0000 UTC]
The red one (24") took about 6 months or more, and I'm still working on the 40" one (another month or so). Been working on it for about 7 months so far (keep in mind I work 2 jobs, so when I say 7 months, I mean in the 1 or 2 hours a day that I'm not working or doing art I work on the model).

Duck-Star In reply to ivanjs [2005-04-17 00:45:01 +0000 UTC]
With all that detail I can well imagine it taking that long, there so cool, I still cant tell what any of the bits are. Some of the piping must have taken ages to cut and glue.
Your an inspiration...

ivanjs In reply to Duck-Star [2005-04-17 01:31:31 +0000 UTC]
The piping wasn't too bad. I basically hold it over a candle, soften where I want it to bend, lay it on my cutting mat which has a grid of squares, bend it to match 90 degrees, and then glue it on the ship.
